Our Next Map: Exciting New Info! Plus Halloween Event Details
We know many of you have been waiting for some solid information on our next map - so here it is! Please also check out the rest of the post for info on our upcoming 4.2 Halloween update, which will include some awesome new features and content.
The Manor
We've been hard at work brainstorming the major written, artistic and gameplay elements for a map we're calling The Manor.
With The Slaughterhouse, we pushed the gore factor in a way we had never done before, and we've been thrilled to see the positive response players have had to its bloody themes and claustrophobic feel. With The Manor, we are challenging ourselves again. The map will feature April as the demon, evil crows as her minions, and will be set in a Victorian-era manor house (and its gardens) in England, UK. We're working on creating a haunted, ghostly feel, which is something we've long wanted to do properly. We can also confirm that players will likely be moving around in a way that's completely different to our previous maps.
We don't have a firm idea yet of when the map will release, but it will likely be the first quarter of 2024. We know this might feel like a long wait, but as a small indie studio we do our best to put out new maps of a high quality as quickly as we can. We really appreciate your support and understanding!
Without further ado, please check out our concept art for demonic April and her crow minions:

Halloween is our favourite holiday of the year! We can confirm that our annual event will take place again, running from 10am PST on September 28th until 10am PST on November 2nd. During the event there will be pumpkin collecting across the maps, a new character-specific Halloween outfit to unlock, and the usual XP boost.

Added a warning to the server browser when joining public lobbies of the potential for meeting hackers when playing with people online
Boar charge on Slaughterhouse will cancel if a door suddenly blocks the boar mid-charge
We're aware that some players are finding Slaughterhouse much harder than previous maps. Please note that this is by design! We wanted to really challenge you with this map. That being said, we're seeing most people can complete the game on Normal mode after practicing for a little while. If you are still finding it hard, feel free to pop in to our Discord server where the community will be more than happy to share some tips!
The late game max speed of boars has been reduced by 15%. Their early game starting speed has been increased by 15%. Ultimately, this means they have less of a differential in speed across the course of a game.
The curve by which Nathan increases his speed has been smoothed. In practice, this means he starts out a bit faster but ends at the same top max speed. Overall, his speed will feel ever so slightly reduced until the last 2 sacrifices which have not been changed. This does not impact his vent speeds.
v4.0.14
- Slaughterhouse: Boars now de-spawn immediately when the final pig is dunked - Long player names are truncated on post game stats - Slaughterhouse: Players no longer respawn facing a vent wall after leaving purgatory - Fixed an animation issue on pigs (pet and Slaughterhouse) - Pets should now appear to move more smoothly over the network
v4.0.13
- Fixed an issue where Nathan was unable to knock a player out who was stuck on him at very close range - Fixed a couple of spots on the Town where items could be lost when dropped - Fixed issues around players disconnecting while using the crank on the Slaughterhouse map - Fixed an edge condition across all forms of Azazel where the stagger animation and red eyes wouldn't happen if line of sight was lost at the same time
v4.0.12
- Fixed occlusion issue in Slaughterhouse basement - Tweak to the AI pathing in the fenced off area in the centre of the abattoir on Slaughterhouse
New map The Slaughterhouse now available to play!
We're thrilled to announce that DEVOUR's brand new map The Slaughterhouse is now available to play for free! Check out the trailer here:
While you've been patient, we've been busy. We've always wanted to push the boundaries when it comes to the themes of our maps, and in The Slaughterhouse you'll be confronted with our boldest attempt yet to shock you. The Slaughterhouse is tough. We want a win on this map to feel like a well earned achievement. You'll be working together to collect machine oil, bones and pigs, but we'll leave it to you to figure out exactly what you'll need to do with them. We have stain remover, if you need some...
The Slaughterhouse takes place in the recently abandoned meat factory that once served as cult member Nathan's first workplace. Returning to exact revenge on his former colleagues, Nathan has summoned and become possessed by the demon Azazel, leaving bloody destruction in his wake. Notes discarded around the map will give players an opportunity to learn about Nathan's history with the place he once clocked in and out of.

And Beyond!
It's been a year since The Town, and while we know players have been used to more frequent map releases, game development takes time, especially with a team as small as ours. Previously, we pushed ourselves to burn out in order to get content out more frequently, but that isn't sustainable over the long term. As a team, we're super proud of The Slaughterhouse and the quality the extra development time has given it.
As always, a huge thank you to our incredible community of players, streamers, content creators, fan artists, and supporters across all social media platforms. Your enthusiasm and the fun we see you have with DEVOUR is the reason we are committed to avoiding complacency and continuing to bring you unique co-op horror scares well into the future.
We're thrilled to bring you the new, terrifying trailer for our upcoming map The Slaughterhouse! Check it out below:
The Slaughterhouse will release on March 9th, 2023 at 10am PT. As with our previous maps, The Slaughterhouse will be available for free to anyone who already owns DEVOUR. We'll drop another Steam news post on release day with some more info on what's included in the update.
Hold on to your goats, DEVOUR players.. the wait is almost over.
In a previous news post, we shared concept art for our upcoming map The Slaughterhouse, as well as some images of new assets. This time, we're updating you on the progress of the map environment itself, as well as some of the lore.
Nathan's Past
We know a lot of players like Nathan's backstory, and The Slaughterhouse reveals a bit more: in his early 20s, before training as a chef, Nathan worked at the slaughterhouse before quitting dramatically due to the psychological stress of the job, as well as mounting pressure from his fellow colleagues. In The Slaughterhouse, Nathan has returned to his first work place to summon Azazel and exact bloody revenge.
A Brutal Experience
With this map, our developers have been hard at work creating an experience that is focused on physical/body horror, and exposes the player to some shocking, bloody moments. The gritty, gory map design, assets and character models all contribute to this effect, as well as some truly spine-tingling voice acting, sound effects and ambient audio. The Slaughterhouse is also smaller than our previous map The Town, and hearkens back to the dark, claustrophobic feel of our original map, The Farmhouse.
We can reveal that there will be new mechanics, and players will definitely be kept busy working out how to put everything in place in order to defeat a demonically possessed Nathan. We'll share further details upon release. The Slaughterhouse will be a brutal map to beat in general, and whether you're playing co-op or solo, we're excited to see how you all approach it on the various difficulty levels. Check out the screenshots below for a taste of what to expect (click to enlarge):
The Slaughterhouse update will also introduce two new perks, a new flashlight, a new map collectable, and a variety of unlockable robes. Again, we'll reveal more info about these upon release.
Release Date
Currently, we are planning to release The Slaughterhouse in March 2023, if all continues to go smoothly. We can't give you an exact date yet because we don't have one, but we can confirm that we've entered the internal playtesting stage and that we're also working on a trailer. We'll update you with a precise release date as soon as we can.
Thank you for your continued patience as we prepare The Slaughterhouse for release. Your support really motivates us.
