Dev Log #032: 2022-10-21

5 New Companions!



This week, we added five new companions: Hairy Monkey, Good Monk, Evil Monk, Water Dragon, and Ice Dragon! These new companions representing different builds of the existing Heroes (Wukong, Holy Monk, and White Dragon), and each comes with a set of current or extended skills inherited from the Hero.

Note that the Hero can’t hire their shadows; for example, Holy Monk can’t hire Good Monk or Evil Monk, while Wukong can’t hire Hair Monkey.


These new companions unlocked various new team-building strategies - come try them out! Soon, you will also be able to construct the legendary team in the Journey to the West novel!




New Companion Details



Hairy Monkey
- One of Wukong’s shadows. Hairy Monkey is good at summoning little monkeys to fight.
- Unlocks after finishing Wukong’s trial 0 in story mode.



Good Monk
- As Holy Monk’s shadow of Good, he is the protector of the team.
- Unlocks after finishing Holy Monk’s trial 0 in story mode.



Evil Monk
- Holy Monk’s shadow of Evil, can leverage Evil Barrier and Avici Hell to unleash powerful strikes.

5 New Companions!



This week, we added five new companions: Hairy Monkey, Good Monk, Evil Monk, Water Dragon, and Ice Dragon! Dev Log #031: 2022-10-16

This week, we continue working on developing game content, including new character cards, and effects, extending the MOD’s capability to profoundly modify the game, and wrapping up chapter4’s dialog translation work

  • We finished creating all the cards and effects of Swine King. Later, we will focus on developing the corresponding music and animations
  • Swine King main builds: Shape Shifting, Eat, Commandment, High Max HP, Bleeding
  • We refactor most of the implementation of cards, consumables, and relics which gives the MOD’s creators the freedom to deeply modify the game’s content and logic
  • We work on the English translation of chapter 4 dialogs. Currently, 1/3 of the work has been done

Next week, we plan to introduce new companions, please look forward to it!

Balance and Improve


  • Cast aside gives a curse card
  • Spirit Cleaver can correctly increase damage in multiple plays such as God of Victory
  • Goddess of Mercy in the omen fight will always stand at 2nd place. Add more description about the seal.
  • Added a convenient dialog for Peach Fairy upgrading cards at the start of combat
  • Absolute Evasion cannot be removed by Apparition
  • Improved Black Lance
  • Flipping and back-facing cards cannot be selected in the card reward menu, to avoid misclick
  • Random attack won't affect the Protected target


Bug fixes


  • Fixed a bug on consumable target picking when the consumable is targeting a single target except yourself
  • Fixed a potential endless Debuff reflecting when using Shackle of Suffering on the High Buddha
  • Fixed tooth for a tooth moves back to hand when healing
  • Corrected Lazy Bear's AI when it is awakened from sleep
  • Fixed the discharge button issue when Shapeshifting, Spirit Shifting, Spirit Pact is retained in hand
  • Fixed a potential draw cards conflict bug

We have made tremendous game balance-related effort in the past two weeks, including Cards, Relics, and consumables. The goal is to empower player by improving things that are not very helpful to player's strategy and build.

Below we will list the relevant modification items item by item.

Balance and Improve



  • Game logic

    • Little Monkey deals at least 1 damage.
    • Goddess of Mercy will be pushed to the lower left corner by the little monkey.
    • Dragon Princess's HP has been increased.

  • Consumable

    • Staunching Herb: Immune to Bleeding.
    • Safflower Oil: Immune to Rupture.
    • Realgar Liquor: Immune to Poison.
    • Poison Phoenix Head: Apply 3 Poison to all enemies every turn.

  • Relic

    • Spear: Gain 3 Strength at start of the combat. Lose 3 Strength after the first turn you play a Attack card.
    • Boots: Gain 3 Constitution at start of the combat. Lose 3 Constitution after the first turn you play a Skill card.
    • Turtle Shell Armor: Whenever an enemy intends to deal damage, add 2 Constitution for this turn.
    • Heaven Earth Bucket: Whenever a card is exhausted or discarded proactively, add 5 Block.
    • Futon of Wind and Fire: Your team heals 5 HP every time you spend Gold at a merchant location.
    • Jade Scepter of Fortune: If your HP at the end of a combat is not lower than the start, receive double Gold reward.
    • Scarlet Bracelet: Add 1 Energy at the start of each turn. Gain a Debuff that prevents you from actively using consumables in combat.
    • Tempting Lute: Whenever you discard a card proactively, deal 5 Damage to all enemies.
      Increase damage by 1 in this combat for every 3 cards discarded.

Introduction to Chapter 4



There are 3 challenging storylines in Chapter 4, each comes after different chapter 3 bosses. There are different plots and prerequisites to enter the final chapters for each hero, and each hero has a couple of different ends (currently we have 37 different ends).

Heaven is the final chapter that you can enter after defeating Divine of Justice at the end of Chapter 3. You will face the four generals guarding the Gate of Heaven in elite combat, and later face The Jade Emperor and his powerful team in the final combat. Based on your encounter before, you might be able to collaborate with both the Divine of Justice and the Fallen Monkey General to take revenge and destroy Heaven!


Soul Mountains is the final chapter that you can enter after defeating the Fallen Phoenix at the end of Chapter 3. Based on your encounters and choices before, you will be able to collaborate with Golden Eyebrows and Fallen Phoenix, encounter the Goddess of Cruelty (Goddess of Mercy’s sister) in elite combat, confront the High Buddha, defeat the ultimate evil, and choose the true love for Holy Monk!



The Plane of Eternity is the final chapter that you can enter after defeating the Hell Emperor at the end of Chapter 3. The Plane of Eternity is the home and prison of Omen - the immortal being formed by sins, pain, and hatred. The seal of five elements was broken and the Omen was partially released and started its bad influence on the world, creating war, chaos, and killings. You will help the Goddess of Mercy to rebuild the Five Elements Seal to seal the Omen, face your own desires and sins, and make the right decisions.



Conditions to enter the final chapter





Note:

  • Collaborate with Golden Eyebrow: Choose to collaborate with Golden Eyebrow in combat or in the related event
  • Friendly to Demons: choose choice 2 in chapter 3 boss event (when the boss is Fallen Phoenix).


Moral Status: Good, Evil, or Neutral


We added a system to count how many “Good” choices and “Evil” choices you made during your journey from chapters 1-3 and will determine the character’s Moral Status when finishing up Chapter 3:

  • Good: Good Points > Evil Points AND Good Points >=3
  • Evil: Evil Points >= Good Points AND Evil Points >=3
  • Neutral: not Good nor Evil

How to earn Good Points?


  • Earn 3 Good Points for each Hostage saved
  • Earn 1 Good Point when making good choices in events or encounters (e.g. help people)

How to earn Evil Points?


  • Earn 100 Evil Points for drinking Demon Blood (special relic)
  • Earn 1 Evil Point when making Evil choices in events or encounters (e.g. kill, rob, or steal from innocent people)

Weekly Update! 2022-09-25

This week, we continue improving final chapters, balancing and improving cards and relics, fixing bugs, and working on English localization.
In addition, we conducted tons of testing and profiling to locate and solve the memory leak problems that eventually fixed the game lagging issues
We put our best effort into developing the last hero The Swine King, which would bring a brand new gaming experience. Currently, about 80% of card logic has been implemented. Please look forward to it!
