Rounded Corners let you create structures that look more round as opposed to rectangular.

Inner Rounded Corners let you make smoother looking rooms as well as large tubes and tunnels you can walk through

In addition we've included the Machine BBQ, which uses power to cook food. Stay tuned as we add in more powered machines in future updates

Updates

  • The Machine BBQ has been added to the game. This uses electric power instead of planks to cook food. It has the same recipes as the normal BBQ
  • Reorganized some crafting recipes into 3 new researches
  • Aeronatics research has been added to Ficterra. This allows you to craft Helicoter parts. It is unlocked after researching Tier 5
  • Power Systems research has been added to the game. This is the requirement for electric machines(solar panels, batteries, machine furnaces, etc) and is unlocked after reaching Tier 4
  • Automotive Engineering is the third new research. This allows you to build Car parts and is unlocked after reaching Tier 4
  • The Rounded Corners variant is now in the game. Use this variant to make softer exterior corners to buildings or columns.
  • The Inner Rounded Corners variant is now in the game. Use this variant to make softer interior corners to rooms or to make rounded tunnels

Fixes

  • Fixed a typo in the description of Machine Furnace

Taiga Update

We've added a new biome to the game, the Taiga Biome!

Spend some time and relax in the beautiful landscape. Take in the tall fir trees and the pristine ponds. Explore the wilds to find hot springs and hidden caves.

Animals such as boar and deer roam the idyllic landscape. Take care though, as Bears have been spotted from time to time.

  • Added a toggle in Settings to turn off two-sided shadows

Fixes

  • Fixed more cases where the player could spawn in mountains
  • Can now select None as an option in the Mod Editor for running code On Start
  • Fixed a bug where code files downloaded from the Steam Workshop were not being read correctly

Electricity and Character Update

We've added electricity to Ficterra!

Build power networks using generators, wires and machines! Unlocked in tier 4, you can start building machines to automate crafting tasks.

We have also rehauled the character system to be more modern and consistent. Choose from a variety of clothing styles and colours to create your custom character.

Build solar panels and wind turbines to generate power for your machines. Use batteries to store excess power for later.

The new Machine Furnace automatically smelts ores and requires no coal to run! Hook it up to vacuum pipes to automate your smelting even further

Updates

  • New character system added that replaced the old one. Create your custom characters from Account in the menu
  • Characters can have multiple clothing options and multiple colours per piece of clothing
  • Electricity has been added to the game. Machines can use electricity to work. Electricity is created from Generators and transferred by wire to machines or batteries
  • Copper wire is now a placeable object. Use it to connect between machines, generators and other wire. It will automatically change shape to connect devices it is next to
  • The Machine Furnace has been added to the game. This furnace automatically smelts ores in its inventory. It has the same recipes as the furnace except it uses electricity instead of coal. This furnace can also be connected to vacuum pipes, to move items in and out of its inventory. You can craft the machine furnace at the tinker table once tier 4 is unlocked
  • The Small Battery has been added to the Ficterra. This battery can be used to store electricity for later use. It is craftable at the tinker table starting from tier 4
  • Wind Turbines have been added to the game. Turbines generate electrical power from the wind. Try placing turbines in different biomes to get different power outputs. Wind turbines can also be crafted at the tinker table from tier 4 onward
  • Solar Panels are now in Ficterra. Solar panels generate electricity from the sun (so not at night time). Biomes with more sunlight will give the solar panels more power. Craft solar panels at the tinker table from tier 4 onward
  • The hover info panel at the top of the screen now shows you the stored power of a placeable object (if it can store power)
  • The crafting screen for auto crafting devices now shows the required power/s to run at full speed in place of the amount slider
  • Painted cubes now build faster

Fixes

  • Multiplayer games no longer load characters incorrectly
  • Segmented controls now work with a larger amount of items

Eerie Update!

Things are getting spooky in Ficterra!

We've added a new chilling and dark area to the game. Introducing the Harrowing Woods biome!

Trees blot out the sun making the surface a shadowy maze. Bring a lantern and use wild Glowleaf to guide you through it.

Explore gloomy ponds, rotted tree trunks, and abandoned cabins scattered throughout the forest. Search them carefully as the shadows hide valuable secrets...

Wolfhounds can be found wandering around the woods. These friendly dogs can be your pets, if you can find them.

Rumors suggest that there was once a small village tucked away between the trees. Its people were supposedly chased off by a terrifying monster. But that's just a rumor, so its probably not true...

Check out the full Update notes below!

Updates

  • The Harrowing Woods biome has been added into the game. This is a gloomy cool biome with dense forests
  • The Harrowing Cabin, Stump, Pond and Werewolf Village sketches have been added to the game. These spawn in the Harrowing Woods biome
  • Wolfhounds have been added to the game. These are friendly animals that spawn in the Harrowing Woods biome. Wolfhounds come in 4 different coats and can become pets

  • The Watcher Statue now locks by default when placed
  • The ability for per-biome music has been added to the game. Currently only the Harrowing Woods biome has its own music, the rest of the biomes share the same track. We will be adding more music in future updates

We've added 4 new decorative cubes to Ficterra!

These can be used to give your houses and other structures a unique design.

Grey Tiles with Striped Carpet (seen above) and Classic Brick with Corrugated Steel (seen below)

We also added some performance settings for the lighting. Check out the full update notes below!

Updates

  • Grey Tiles have been added to the game. These are a group of 3 by 3 grey decorative stone tiles. These can be crafted at the Mason Station with Stone
  • Classic Brick has been added to the game. This is a red and bluish decorative brick. It can be crafted at the Mason Station with Brick
  • Corrugated Steel has been added to the game. This is a decorative green metal cube. It can be crafted at the Anvil using Metal
  • Striped Carpet has been added to the game. It is a soft decorative cube that is easy to break. This can be crafted on your person using Carpet
  • Added in quality settings for deferred rendering. These are under performance and are active when Deferred Rendering is selected. You can choose Low, Medium or High quality
  • The lighting quality has been lowered by default. The game now starts with the new Medium setting of lighting. Previously, it was closer to the High setting. This is a good quality setting and avoids putting extra work on the GPU
  • Deferred Rendering is disabled by default when you choose to run the game in lower quality settings. If you want, you can turn it back on once in game. This is to reduce the stress on graphics cards

Fixes

  • Stars should no longer float in front of your face near the world spawn point
  • When new research and crafting recipes are added to the game, existing characters will correctly have access to them in all cases

Early Access Update 16!

Filter Pipes have been added to Ficterra! You can block or allow the items you want from your pipe networks. You can use these to sort your items into different pipe chests or create some fun machines.

We also have a new selection bar that is easier to see. We removed the outlines for the icons, and they now get larger when selected.

Updates

  • Filter Pipes have been added to the game. These are vacuum pipes that can allow or block certain items. Filter Pipes can be crafted at the Tinker Table
  • Replaced the selection bar at the bottom. It now better highlights what you have selected. Selecting an item smoothly animates it larger and removes the hotkey reminder. The bar is also larger than previously overall.
  • After placing an item you now switch back to your tool by default. We found most of the time you only place one of an object, then want to use a tool. Certain objects still will place consecutively such as plates and vacuum pipes.
  • Added an option in the Item Editor to toggle switching to a tool after placing. You will have to update items for placeable objects in your mods if you don't want the new behaviour
  • Icons when you choose an item are now loaded asynchronously
  • Icons of items in your inventory are now loaded asynchronously
  • Removed the 'Burndown Seams' option from the performance menu; this became obsolete with our new loading system
  • Removed excess code related to 'Burndown Seams' for a very small increase in performance

Fixes

  • Fixed visual artifacts on the 'give' icon
  • Fixed time not being fixed in the Puzzle Ship Fiction
  • Fixed some stars in the Puzzle Ship Fiction
  • The Give items panel now has the same list of filtered items when reopened

Early Access Update 15!

We redid the lighting for Ficterra to make it more realistic and get rid of the previous lighting oddities. Caves should no longer appear to get darker as you enter them and shadows should be the right darkness. The top picture is the new lighting and the bottom picture is with the old system.

You can see the cave is now dark instead of lit up. The shadows look nicer and the corners are correctly darker.

We've also added Pipe Chests to Ficterra. Vacuum Pipes can put objects in them and take objects out them.

Updates

  • New lighting system! We now use a dynamic global illumination system (SEGI) to remove some of the lighting weirdness the game had. As a result, the game now by default uses deferred rendering for the main camera. If you experience visual artifacts or no shadows you can turn off 'Deferred Rendering' in the performance settings.
  • Pipe Chests have been added to the game. These can store items and receive items from vacuum pipes. They can be crafted at the tinker table from tier 3 onward.
  • Vacuum Pipes can now transport normal items too. They will do nothing if they contain an item and there is no next pipe, or a pipe chest.
  • Ramps now will try to place facing the same direction as any adjacent ramp, when placed beside it

Fixes

  • Vacuum Pipes you are holding can no longer suck things up
  • All cube textures in the Base Mod and images from the Decorations Mod should now show up correctly on flags, doormats, etc
  • The server will now send data for placeable objects from the server in multiplayer when the chunk is shadow loaded
  • Placeable objects now keep the authority of the last player to pick them up, instead of reverting back to server authority. This lets clients launch objects without being wonky

Vacuum Pipes! - Early Access Update 14!

Vacuum Pipes have been added Ficterra!

Put an object in front of one and it'll suck it up and spit it out the other side. You can chain them together to create a pipeline. They come in a "turn" variety too so you twist and tun your pipe.

Have fun with the physics, as the pipes shoot things out of them! They can also transport chests full of items, so you can use them to send items back to your base.

Updates

  • Vacuum Pipes have been added to the game. These suck up placeable objects and spit them out the other side. They can be crafted at the Tinker Table
  • Vacuum Pipe Turns have been added to the game. These are vacuum pipes that spit out at 90 angle. These are also crafted at the Tinker Table
  • Ficterra now uses a new system for loading and building terrain. This greatly reduces the amount of memory and gpu usage the game uses. It may also load faster depending on your machine.
  • Biome sizes have been increased. For custom games all of the available size settings now produce worlds with larger biomes. This is to balance out the new biomes we have previously added to the game.
  • Removed duplicate data on placeable objects
  • Oak and Pine trees now generate faster
  • Optimized how we spawn major sketches when generating terrain
  • Oceans now generate faster
  • Lakes now generate faster
  • Removed extra unneeded data on terrain chunks, slightly saving memory and time

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where half cubes next to ramps could have an invisible side
  • Objects that snap to a grid now rotate correctly
  • Fixed a bug where objects generated with the terrain would sometimes duplicate

Early Access Update 13!

Updates

  • Beagles have been added to the game. Beagles are friendly dogs that spawn in temperate biomes
  • New method for Biome distribution. This method is ~13 times faster, and will give approximately the same results as the old method. Old worlds will still use the old method to keep them consistent
  • Half Blocks now cull based on other half blocks. This reduces memory and gpu usage
  • Placeable objects have had an internal overhaul. There should be a slight increase in speed when saving/loading
  • Unfinished sketches now save/load faster

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug in multiplayer where the same terrain chunk could spawn multiple times
  • Placeables should no longer fall through the floor
  • Fixed a bug in multiplayer where clients 'mood' would not change correctly with the biome
  • Sketch Previews for very large sketches will now show up without being cut off

Summer Update!

We've added the Tropical Beach biome to the game, just in time for Summer!

Relax in this waterfront area on the sand shaded by palm trees and have some fun playing with the new Beach Ball. Wander deeper into the jungle and you might just find something.

Check out the full update notes below!

Updates

  • Tropical Beach biome has been added to the game. It spawns in hot, bright areas with high rainfall that have a lower elevation
  • Grassy Sand has been added to the game. This is found in the new Tropical Beach biome and acts like sand when crafting
  • Palm Trunk has been added to the game. This is the trunk for palm trees found in the new Tropical Beach biome
  • Thatched Roof has been added to the game. It is a simple roof that can be made out of leaves in the Woodshop
  • The Beach Ball has been added to the game. This is a fun summer time ball you can throw around. You can craft it at the Tinker Table with rubber. This ball can bounce and 'float'
  • The 'Jungle Idol' and 'Thatched Hut' sketches have been added to the game. These spawn in the new Tropical Beach biome
  • When creating a new game, the 'Play Now' option now uses a Biome size of 'Normal' up from 'Small'
  • You can now create worlds having only one biome. You can select Single Biome in the create custom game menu, and then choose which biome below. This is useful for creating Fictions or doing challenges
  • Toxic Rain has had its rain drop rate reduced from 200 to 100 drops per second. This should increase performance and reduce the average damage you take while moving through it
  • Trunk, Jungle Trunk, Pine Trunk, Swamp Trunk and Arid Trunk now can have variants

Fixes

  • Sand can now have variants. It was not found naturally in any biome, and was overlooked
  • No longer load the world spawn area when the player loading in is nowhere near it
  • Sketch names in the Mod Editor now show just the name and not the full file path
