v2.6 Update is Now Available for Galactic Civilizations III and Crusade!
v2.6 Improves Trade Routes, Colony Events, Game Balance, and More!

Crusade Expansion-Only Updates:
Ideology Adjustment Malevolence is fun! At least, that's what they keep telling us. We've reworked the Malevolent Ideology tree in Crusade to give a general bonus in negotiations rather than focusing on minors.
Starting Citizen One is the loneliest number, so let's give you a friend! All of your new games will now start with a citizen so you can put them to work right away managing your economy, spying on enemies, or whatever else it is you coerce your friends into doing for you.
New Starship Mission You'd better "be-leaf" it: a new mission to harvest Aurorus Trees is now available for you to take! You can use what you gather from them to fuel improvements or promotions for your citizens.
Galactic Civilizations III (Base Game) & Crusade Updates:
Colonization Events: Many of the colonization events are receiving updates to make the "evil" choice more profitable than before. We want to make sure that the urge to be malevolent isn't suppressed by players wanting to make sure they get the better benefits through benevolence or pragmatism. Now there's equal opportunity for all!
Trade Routes: We've decreased the amount of money you get from trade routes, but we've also substantially increased the number of trade routes that you can have. This makes trading empires a lot more interesting and lets you branch out even further into the galaxy.
Multiplayer: Custom factions are now available in multiplayer games! Until now, you've only been able to play with pre-made civilizations - now your personal creations can conquer the galaxy and take out your friends.
Mercenaries: The mercenary ships that you can hire from the Galactic Bazaar have been updated in order to align them better with recent economy updates.
Polish: Every time we play, we find something to improve. We've been working closely with our community to identify bugs and problems, so there are lots of "quality of life" improvements in this update.
The v2.6 update is ready and waiting for you in your Steam client!

Enormous v2.5 Update for Galactic Civilizations III and Crusade Expansion Releases Today
Enjoy Vast Improvements with this Major Engine Update for Galactic Civilizations III and Crusade!
For a detailed list of updates, view the changelog at the bottom of this post and check out the two part dev journals (Part 1 and Part 2) from CEO Brad Wardell.
Major engine update to the base game and Crusade expansion
Improved UI The AI is now stronger, better, smarter, faster! It is now especially adept at fleet building and management.
Better Game Balance Player feedback is the cornerstone of many of our updates. In an effort to continue to make the game more fun, we've re-balanced how population works, adjusted the costs of improvements, improved some ship components, and more.
Faster Turn Times For players who love enormous maps with lots of action, the sheer amount of ships on the screen and in the game could cause some major wait-time on turns. We've made adjustments so that the turn times are faster, even when the galaxy is crowded with lots of ships.
Increased Performance As we continue to work on our engine, frame rate and memory useage should improve. We want to make sure that the game runs smoothly for everyone and have made lots of efforts toward that.
Featured updates to the base game
UI Adjustments To make the game easier to navigate, Crusade's summary tab has been added on the right (but sorry, you still don't get citizens!). The tech tree, planet screens, ship screens, and govern screens have been adjusted for a better experience as well. To top it all off, we've added the "word on the street" feature from Crusade so that you can keep tabs on how your people are feeling!
Performance Enhancements Something that doesn't show well in screen captures is performance. We moved over the AI system in the base game to a core-neutral engine, like what we've done with Crusade.
Economic Changes Galactic resources now accumulate in the base game, just like they do in Crusade! We think this makes for a better experience overall.
AI Improvements We've done a lot to the AI in order to improve it for the base game. The most noteable change is the Diplomacy system - we've ported over what's in Crusade to help the AI factions make more informed decisions about trade offers. We've also included the trade bar! In addition, trades, planetary management, and other AI improvements that we made in Crusade have been ported over into the base game.
Don't have Galactic Civilizations III? Get it now on Steam or at Stardock.
Owners, the v2.5 update is ready and waiting for you in your Steam client. If you haven't already joined the Crusade, the expansion is available on Steam or at Stardock.
v2.3 Updates the New Crusade Expansion and Base Game, Galactic Civilizations III

Players who don't own Crusade yet can still experience smarter AI opponents, improved diplomacy, and more!

Crusade Expansion-Only Updates:
New Content More missions, more money (and probably more problems). The new missions will let you further explore the galaxy in search of wonders and resources to build up your civilization. The new "Mogul" promotion for your entrepreneurial citizens will net you 5000bc when you reach it. Score!
Game Balance Many adjustments to the game's balance through changes to missions, bonuses, ideology, and more also feed into the improved AI.
AI Improvements The AI is substantially better at managing domestic affairs (improvements, economy, etc.), as well as issues abroad (waging war, exploration, etc.).
Base Game, Galactic Civilizations III Updates:
Diplomacy: The AI is much better at bargaining with players and makes more intelligent trade offers.
Balance: A balance pass on planetary improvements now gives them an increased effect on gameplay, though it has also made them more expensive. Adjustments have also been made to the cost of specialty vessels such as constructors or colony ships.
Galaxy Setup: More anomalies are available to explore early on in the game than there were before. The number of planets, stars, and habitable planets have also been substantially increased.
Performance: Some of the optimizations for Crusade have been ported over to create faster turn times and improve the general framerate.
AI: The AI has been improved to be able to play more intelligently, especially during times of war.
The v2.3 update is ready and waiting for you in your Steam client! If you haven't already joined the Crusade, the expansion is available on Steam or at Stardock.

Crusade is a “deeper, more rewarding experience” - USgamer rates 4.5/5!
“If you’re looking to quench your 4X hunger, Crusade makes Galactic Civilizations III one of the more robust, high-quality offerings out there,” USgamer’s Mike Williams writes. “Crusade is everything that an expansion should be. It takes [the base game], sands off the rough edges, and adds new options for a deeper, more strategic experience. The new citizens system offers more late-game options, espionage returns, planetary invasions are more tactical, and alongside the three new races, there’s a Civilization Builder letting you craft your own. If you’re a GalCiv fan, it’s an instant pick-up. If you’re not, this might be the time to pick it up.”

“This DLC is a Game Changer” - COG Connected gives Crusade a 90!
“[Crusade] can rightly be called a complete overhaul of the original 2015 version of the game. With changes to the AI, new features, and more customization options, Crusade gives players more control over how they play and generally improves the playing experience,” Patrick Anderson at COG Connected writes. “Stardock has clearly gone to great lengths to allow players to make Galactic Civilizations III the game that they want.”

Ludicrous update to Galactic Civilizations III: Crusade arrives!
Ludicrous update to Galactic Civilizations III: Crusade has arrived!
The best-selling space 4X series of all time recently got its biggest expansion pack ever: Galactic Civilizations III: Crusade. Today, Stardock has released the first major update to it that adds a new map size, fixes bugs, improves balance and adds some new features.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4SCASKRFks
Plymouth, Michigan. May 14.
Owners of the Crusade expansion pack to Stardock's best-selling space 4X strategy game, Galactic Civilizations III are receiving a major update today.
Dubbed, the "Ludicrous" update, the new version replaces the largest sized galaxy option with a new one called "Ludicrous" which doubles the maximum size over the previous biggest map size ("insane size") and includes a host of quality of life improvements, balance updates, bug fixes and much more.
"Galactic Civilizations III already supported very large maps," said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock Entertainment. "But among the many improvements the new Crusade expansion pack brings is a multi-core game AI which allows for much bigger galaxies to play thanks to the drastically reduced turn-times."
In early May, Stardock released the critically acclaimed (87 metacritic) expansion that introduced citizens, spies, diplomats, privateers, interactive invasions, commanders, the civilization builder, three new civilizations and much more. Fan response has been tremendous which Stardock has channeled into this update filled with not just bigger map sizes but dozens of important improvements across the game.
"The best way to describe Galactic Civilizations III: Crusade is that it is the answer to the mid to late game grind that 4X strategy games have struggled with for years," said Wardell. "With Crusade, we answer this with both features such as the new citizen system that allows players to execute powerful actions late game as well as taking full advantage of the new, 64-bit, multi-core custom game engine that was made exclusively to make space 4X games."
To that end, Crusade includes the first core-neutral AI engine for the genre.
"What core-neutral AI means is that the game will use all the CPU cores you have no matter how few or how many are on your PC," said Wardell. We found that a large percentage of our players have at least 4 CPU cores and many have 6 or more. This meant we could, literally, cut down turn times by a factor of 8 to 12 depending on the CPU. This matters because anyone who plays these types of games know that the late game can slow to a halt. It also allowed us to develop a substantially more intelligent series of computer opponents as well as create a more life-like background simulation that the players tap into."
Galactic Civilizations III: Crusade has quickly become popular with YouTube streamers partially because of its combination of fast turn times and the Civilization Builder.
YouTube has become an unexpected phenomenon for Crusade," said Wardell. "Because players can design their own ships and civilizations and share them via Steam workshop, streamers can literally set up games where they are playing against a random mix of their favorite Sci-Fi races. The fast turn times means that the streamers don't see their games bog down late game and makes for a really good Let's Play viewing experience."
Galactic Civilizations III: Crusade is available as a package for only $39.99 (or $19.99 if you already have Galactic Civilizations III).
New ludicrous map size. Look for the tiny red dot on the mini map to get an idea of the immensity. Trillions of inhabitants, tens of thousands of ships, up to 100 players actively engaging you and each other (not counting minor civilizations).
Recruit citizens and train them in a variety of powerful ways
Design your own ships to play with or against, share them with others.
Create civilizations and assign what ships they use for different roles with ships you've designed or downloaded from Steam Workshop
The new interactive invasion system is simple but strategically decisive.
The new AI system makes AI negotiations more interesting as the AI now looks at what it thinks you want as well as what it wants and creates deals based on that.
Espionage allows players to steal technology, sabotage planets, destroy economies.
Trade value bar makes negotiating with aliens easier than ever! Moreover, the underlying dialog AI chooses what the aliens say to you based on their traits, your traits and the state of the galaxy.
Play as one of the official GalCiv civilizations or any of the thousands of player created civilizations online (and against them).
Quite literally, not only is each game different, each game is very different.
Join the crusade to save/destroy/enslave/salvage/acquire/inspire/convert your galaxy.

Build Your Civilization* Create a unique faction complete with leader, ideology, and abilities. Customize your own galactic navy and write unique conversation dialogue for your faction to use when it comes into contact with friends and enemies. Once you've perfected your people, upload your creation to the Steam Workshop for other users to enjoy! *The Civilization Builder uses Steamworks and is only available to users who purchase a copy for Steam.
Let Your People Shine Shape the course of your civilization's destiny with talented individuals called citizens. Choose from over a dozen unique roles - commander, engineer, farmer, celebrity, and more - to help your colonies flourish by unlocking new gameplay or providing bonuses. The unique Promotions system allows citizens to answer a higher calling. They become effectively "retired" in exchange for a large benefit. Commanders can become Privateers and convert their ship into a powerful vessel that belongs to no civilization and terrorizes other ships for fun, profit, and plausible deniability. Celebrities can sing their swan song in a spectacular final concert, Spies can choose to go down in a blaze of glory (and explosives!) as Saboteurs, and more.
Spy on Your Competition Not all wars are won with troops. Train spies to gather information from foreign worlds so that you can formulate the best strategy for conquer or trade. If your enemy starts getting a little big for their galactic britches, send your spies in to knock them down a few pegs and destroy critical planetary improvements. Steal technologies from other civilizations or use your spies to counter against agents that may have infiltrated your own worlds. We need a spy on the inside...
Invade Enemy Planets Some wars are won with troops! The Invasion system has been revamped to provide a greater challenge and more strategic depth. Train your legions and send them to enemy worlds, choose a landing location, and then watch planetary improvements explode into fire and ashes as your troops march across the planet's surface. Don't forget to leave a few legions at home, too - they're your best line of defense against a revenge invasion!
Encounter New Factions You already know you're not alone in the universe, but there are always new civilizations to discover. Crusade features three brand-new factions: Terran Resistance: The portion of humanity that avoided being trapped on Earth behind the Precursor Shield, years on the run have made them resourceful, but hard. The Onyx Hive: These multi-limbed worms were born from the deep, volcanic vents in the ocean of their homeworld. Natural spies, their society thrives on backstabbing and intrigue. The Slyne: These cybernetic space amoebas look down on other races as being primitive. Fickle and hard to kill, it's probably best to stay on their good side.
Additional New Features:
Updated Civilizations: The races you were once familiar with have been updated so that playing against them is now a more unique experience. The civilization selection screen contains lots of new information on each race so that you can make the best decision about who you'd like to play against.
Updated Economy: Each decision you make matters - a lot. Raw production increases if your population is large and your people are happy. Raw production value also influences things like research, construction, and wealth.
Updated Diplomacy and Alliances: Interactions with other races are now weighed more heavily than before. Be careful who you upset - no one in the galaxy likes a civilization of warmongers. When trading, a "fairness" bar at the top of the trade window shows you how much more (or less!) you need to offer before the trade is even. New flavor text unique to each race makes trading a fun and unique experience!
Missions: Subsidize ventures to the depths of the galaxy to search for resources, abandoned ships, or ancient technologies.
Starbase Mechanics: Starbases are now upgraded at the starbase itself rather that having to rely on distance plants to send additional constructors.
New UI: A sleek new UI brings important details to the forefront and emphasizes functionality.
