Wow, so the Tournament was a huge success. We had a total 1,463 sessions in the December Tournament. Which is way above what we predicted to see, so that is awesome! Note to the winners - I (joeysipos) have sent you a friend request, please accept it so I can send you your digital steam gift card ;)

To add a little competitiveness to the game we are adding in leaderboards! The update should be out before Christmas!
Update 1.5.2: Additional Flight Physics Tweaks
Updated the game to make the flight physics behave even more realistic.
Updated the character animation so you can now see the pilots hands while in first person mode, giving a better sensation of flight.
Made first person mode default while in VR!
Updated the launch pad of all 3 levels so it's easier to launch, and people don't get confused and go in circles.
Updated mouse flight mode to behave smoother.
Update 1.5 (Airspeed Indicator and Flight Physics Update)
Flight Physics Hey all! We just updated the flight physics so they act a bit more realistic. Before the glider would increase or decrease velocity based on your pitch, and a couple other factors. As this works, it’s not quite how a glider would work in real life. The glider now gains and loses velocity based on how much altitude you lose or gain. As well as looking at the angle of attack. We also programmed in gravity to act correctly. So when you jump, gravity pulls you down and you have to overcome it by gaining lift. Also notice that it is easier to come to a landing as well, by flaring (pitching up and pulling back). Give it a try!
Airspeed Indicator: We also added a simple airspeed indicator in the center of your HUD! We had some feedback that it was hard to judge how fast you were going. But now you can use the easy to read airspeed indicator that goes from Red (too slow) to Green (fast) to show your speed. See the screenshot posted!

Update 1.4 (New Rating System!)
New Scoring System:
So after talking to actual hang glider pilots we realized there is an actual Rating System for hang gliders! So we decided to upgrade the game to account for this. Your scored is based on how many hoops you collect, and if you collect all the hoops you get a time bonus. (Sorry, old scores have to be erased to account for this) The ratings look like this:
H0 - Student Pilot
H1 - Beginner Pilot
H2 - Novice Pilot
H3 - Intermediate Pilot
H4 - Advanced Pilot
H5 - Master Pilot
Bronze (all hoops collected with little time remaining)
Silver (all hoops collected with moderate time remaining)
Gold (all hoops collected with lots of time remaining)
We also update the User Interface showing the score and awards! Now looks much cleaner and prettier. Some other bugs fixed:
Now display score while flying with +1 floating after collecting hoops.
Fixed an issue with first person mode. Before it would glitch as you turned left and right. Now it is smooth as butter!
Collision data for the arch under the bridge in Desert Island was too hard. Made the collision data a little wider.
New Simplified UI after completing flight. Also we show a vertical bar showing where you score ranks.
Hang Glider Simulator! At Seattle MoPop this weekend.
Hi Pilots! We got some interesting news! We will be showcasing our first prototype of a Hang Gliding Sim using Glider Island. 1.3 Major Update! (VR Arcade Mode)
We have spent the last 2 months polishing the user experience of Glider Island so we can get Glider Island in VR Arcades around the world! When you start Glider Island you will now see these three options:
If you start it as a “Normal User” you will get all the normal menu options including Xbox Controller Mode, and Mouse Controller mode. When you start in "Arcade Mode" everything is VR exclusive. This mode is meant for people who have purchased the Steam Site Licensing and will be showcasing the game in VR Arcades. Also in Arcade mode the score will be visible on the computer monitor so people watching can get an idea of how well the player is doing as they stand behind them.
On top of the new VR Arcade mode we have spent lots of time adding new features to the game. Most of them have to do with improving usability. Here is a list of all the new features:
-User now starts directly at launch pad instead of menu: Before the user had to go through 3 steps to enter the glider which was time consuming and confusing. We now reduced it to 1 step!
-New improved way of entering the glider: Before the user would have to repositioning themselves to grab the handlebar of the glider which was extremely frustrating for some. Now all the user has to do now is sit up straight and press both triggers and the glider will snap to their position!
-New and improved UI: We redid the graphics showing the controls for the glider as well as the how to play the game.
-Oculus Rift Hand Controllers now supported: We made sure if you are using the Oculus Hand Controllers in Steam VR everything works and you get the correct UI/ graphics.
-Much improved hand controller flying mode: This has been totally reworked! We found people would get disorientated because they would end up upside down or crooked. We now simplified this mode so you can no longer get upside down or disoriented. Also the hands are now tracked based off of your heads position, so moving both your head and hands has an effect. So far we have heard people love the new hand controller steering!
-3rd person mode and 1st person mode: The new version now has a fully animated character attached to the glider. So flying in 3rd person mode is more realistic and what you would find in real life. When you enter 1st person mode the camera snaps to the position of the characters head. So you get a first hand experience of what the glider pilot would actually be seeing.
-Coming soon: The next month will be spent creating achievements and leaderboards. We really want to get more of the Steam community involved so we will be adding a monthly tournament mode with prizes at the end of each month. Also looking to have custom leaderboards for Arcade Mode! More on this to come!

For the last couple months we have been working hard really polishing Glider Island. Our goal is to get an extremely polished version out to VR Arcades around the world! We have been demoing the latest version at VR Events around Seattle, WA and showcasing some of the new features. We will post any future updates on our social media pages. Here are some of the new features that will be included in the next version due out sometime at the end of August:
-More user friendly head controller steering and hand controller steering.
-New 3D Animated Glider Pilot attached to glider.
-First and 3rd Person Camera Modes
-Leaderboards! (much more info on this to come!)
-Oculus Rift touch controller support.
-Laser Pointer User Interface interaction with touch controllers.
