Game changes and fixes:



  • Added a new bot at rating 2900.
  • Fixed: online games didn't work when connected to an IPv6-only network.
  • Fixed: Crown of Thorns triggered even when the damage was blocked, evaded, parried etc.
  • Fixed: When Sharur was equipped, dealing a critical hit after playing Preparation removed the effect of Preparation.
  • Fixed: Demon Hold didn't work correctly when receiving magic damage on the player's own turn (e.g. due to a reflect damage proc).


Balance changes:



  • Added +1 start AP and +1 damage to all two-handed weapons.
  • Roc Beak: 5% critical hit chance down from 10%.
  • Frozen Blade: destroy 2 enemy AP down from 3 AP and no longer triggers on off-hand critical hits.
  • Gae Bulg: +2 damage per token, up from +1.
  • Vial of Mastery: +10% evade up from 5%.
  • Colossus Grip: added passive bonus: +1 main hand damage.
  • Kurgan Blade: +3 damage when you have more HP than the enemy, down from +5.

Game changes and fixes:



  • Added 12 more ladder bots with ratings between 1000 and 3000.

  • Fixed: entering the arena menu while a class description was displayed did not reset the character sheet to equipment mode.

Balance changes:



  • Hand of Fate (Crusader token): cost 4 AP, down from 5.
  • Vengeance (Crusader token): cost 6 AP, up from 5.
  • Recover (Assassin token): evade bonus lasts 3 turns, instead of expiring when breaking Stealth.
  • Shadow Stalker Pendant: heal 10 HP up from 5 HP.
  • Spirit Wolf Fang: 3 charges down from 5 and price lowered by 1000 gold.
  • Blightslayer: reflect 10 damage, instead of current weapon damage.
  • The Exorcist: 6 damage up from 5, and new effect: each time you deal damage with a weapon, you have a 30% chance to remove one enemy positive effect.
  • Urn of Shadows: 15 damage up from 10 and costs 0 AP to use.
  • Shadows Bulwark: +3 defense while in Stealth, instead of doubling the current defense.
  • Nightshade: gain 2 damage / turn when not attacking, down from 3.
  • Lightbringer: can only be used by Crusader.
  • Reforged Legbiter: 6 damage, up from 5.
  • Greater Dire Charm: added passive bonus: +1 weapon damage.
  • Witch Slayer Blade: can only be used by Berserker and Crusader.
  • Ghastly Axe: price increase by 3000 gold.
  • Zegrem: price increase by 2000 gold.
  • Spirit Bear Cleaver: price increase by 2000 gold.
  • Svalinn: no longer disables a trinket slot.
  • Holy Shell: heals for 2 turns, down from 3.

Client Patch 1.1.9

Game changes and fixes:



  • If a match isn't decided after 40 turns, it is automatically declared a draw.
  • Practice missions give rewards once for each player class, instead of once per account. Existing mission progress has been reset, so you can replay all the difficulties.
  • Arena games can be played against bots for all ticket types, if the ticket is bought with real money. Bots are still restricted to the first two ticket types, if the ticket is bought with gold.
  • Removed passive play checks and deck exhaustion damage.
  • Added info buttons in the Customize and Practice menus, explaining various things which are not immediately obvious.
  • Fixed: Amulet of Mastery could trigger all the time, not only in Focused Mind.
  • Fixed: the AI never used Disarm.


General balance changes:



  • Items which cost exactly 1000 gold have full resell price.
  • Tweaked prices for a number of items.
  • Draupnir: removed passive bonuses and gives 300 more gold flat, instead of 3x more gold.
  • Arcenstone: gives 50 more gold flat, instead of 50% more.
  • Vicious Mithril Axe: +4 damage while Enraged, up from +2.
  • Vicious Adamantium Axe: +5 damage while Enraged, up from +3.
  • Vicious Thorium Axe: +6 damage while Enraged, up from +4.
  • Spirit Bear Bones: added passive bonus: +1 main hand damage.
  • Draconian Seal: added passive +1 main hand damage bonus.
  • Mirror of Ra: passive damage and defense bonuses increased to 2.
  • Tyrfing: removed disabled trinket slot.

Arena balance changes:


Cruel Gladiator
Hatchet of Cruelty: critical hits also make the main-hand cost 0 AP, on top of re-enabling it.

Cruel Knight
Signet of Cruelty: add 2 damage over 2 turns on the enemy on critical hit, instead of healing 5 HP.

Master Knight
Redesigned weapon and shield.

Cruel Ambusher
Shiv of Cruelty: ignore shield, parry and evade applies only to its own attacks.
Ring of Cruelty: heal 3 HP on critical hit, down from 5.

Cruel Conjurer
Dagger of Cruelty: +3 magic damage on critical hit, down from 5, and restore 1 AP, down from 2.
Orb of Cruelty: lower token cost by 2 on critical hit, down from 1.
Gem of Cruelty: heal 3 HP on critical hit, down from 5.

Resilient Conjurer
Staff of Resilience: disable 2 tokens on critical hit, down from 3, and has +1 start AP, down from 2.

Client Patch 1.1.7

Changes and fixes:



  • Fixed: Recover always healed 10 HP, instead of 10-20.
  • Quest reroll is available once per day, instead of being re-enabled 24 hours after the last reroll.
  • Quests can also be completed by playing arena games, not only ranked.
  • Arena tickets bought with real money also give a reward when losing the match (half of the win reward).
  • Clarified rewards in the arena menu.
  • Doubled the price and reward for Arena Ticket I.


Balance changes:



  • Cruel Knight Arena Set: -1 damage and -1 defense.
  • The "Win 3 games as a Berserker/Crusader/etc." quests give 300 gold instead of 100.
  • Reforged Grond: price increased by 1000 gold.
  • Lesser Shard of Hate: price decreased by 400 gold.
  • Greater Shard of Hate: price increased by 500 gold.

Client Patch 1.1.6

This hotfix update resolves the following issues:



  • Fixed: store window not refreshed after purchasing an item which disables others (such as the permanent booster or the starter pack).
  • Fixed: when switching accounts, the state of the store items was not updated.
  • Fixed: "error loading play material" error after the game data was updated without updating the entire game.
  • Fixed: pressing the Store button before creating an email account showed a connection error popup, instead of explaining that the store is inaccessible for anonymous accounts.
  • Fixed: incorrect appearance for install window on Mac after opening the downloaded DMG file.


We have also made the following changes to the arena item sets:

  • Shiv of Resilience: gain 1 damage down from 2.

Client Patch 1.1.5 - The Arena!

The Arena is here!


This update introduces a new multiplayer game mode called Arena. In this mode, everyone uses one of the predefined Arena item sets, which are designed to have roughly the same strength. There are 3 sets for each class, and they are all available regardless of your current inventory or performance on the ladder. Only your skill matters! (Ok, luck also plays a little role.)

In order to play in the arena, you must first purchase a ticket. One ticket allows you to play one game. If you win, you get back the ticket price, plus a reward. There are 5 ticket options, with increasing prices and rewards. If the game is a draw, both players keep their tickets. The ticket is only used when you start the game, so if you hit Play and the matchmaker cannot find an opponent (or you cancel the search), you will keep your ticket.

If you don't want to risk gold, you can also buy tickets with real money. In this case, winning gives you the same gold reward, but doesn't refund the ticket price.

For the first two ticket options (100 gold and 500 gold), if the matchmaker cannot find another player after 60 seconds, it will give you a bot. Bots are not available for the more rewarding options (because they don't play that well).

If you find any problems or potential imbalances with the Arena sets, please report them on the forum. We may tweak the sets in the near future based on player feedback and data we gather from live games.

  • Cursed Ankh: removed passive damage bonus and lowered start AP bonus to 1.
  • Gram: 50% chance to trigger, up from 30%.
  • Ardent Cleaver: +1 damage over time.
  • Faith +1: 30% chance to trigger, up from 20%.
  • The Ulfbert: 7 damage, up from 6 and 20% critical hit chance, up from 15%.
  • Blood Bargain: 2 damage per action, down from 3.
  • Jormungand Scale: also gives +2 to bonus from Blood Bath, not just to damage.

Client Patch 1.1.4 - Daily Quests!

Changes and fixes:



  • Implemented daily quests.

Client Patch 1.1.3

Game changes and fixes:



  • Fixed: Armor Patch, Enforcer Mark and Fine Grindstone had wrong resell prices.
  • Fixed: all 3 Shards of Hate did twice as much damage to the owner compared to the opponent.
  • Fixed: when Blade of Fortune copied a token played by the owner, the token had the wrong texture for a short period of time.
  • Fixed: the main-hand "quick" weapons are no longer limited to trigger only once per turn.
  • Fixed: the Dragon Egg effect stacked with itself.
  • Fixed: Scythe of Anubis incorrectly triggered on deck exhaustion damage.


Balance changes:



  • Reduced the parry chance of all staffs by 10%.
  • Reduced gold rewards for gaining ranks.
  • Immolate: no longer receives magic damage bonuses, but cannot be blocked, parried or evaded; reduced AP cost to 4.
  • Star Shard: removed damage over time bonus and lowered parry chance to 25%.
  • Greater Poison Charm: price 6000 gold, up from 2700.
  • Black Pearl: new effect: each time a critical hit is dealt, exchange one token between the players.
  • Magic Barrier: 6 defense up from 4.
  • Druidic Ward: added passive +1 defense bonus and increased price to 5000 gold.

Client Patch 1.1.2

Game changes and fixes:



  • Improved fairness of random number generator.
  • Better descriptions for some items.
  • Added two "special" bots at rating 3000.
  • Added background music for the menu and the game (and a setting to disable it).
  • If a player completes the tutorial at least once and logs out, the login dialog which pops up from the welcome screen contains a "Create Account" link.
  • Added a Create Account button in the options menu when the player is logged into an anonymous account.
  • Added Reset Progress and Change Password options in the main menu.
  • Fixed: Painkiller was 100% chance to life steal under 50 HP, instead of 50% chance under 100 HP.
  • Fixed: the self damage dealt by Book of the Dead is no longer affected by magic damage bonuses.
  • Fixed: Remorseful Hacker was a main-hand weapon, instead of off-hand.
  • Fixed: damage and heal over 255 were displayed incorrectly.
  • Fixed: if the Witch drew a token belonging to the opponent from her own deck (e.g. after it was put there by Clairvoyance), it showed the wrong graphics during the draw animation.
  • Fixed: the Play button in the online menu wasn't centered.
  • Fixed: if loading the game screen took too long for an online match, the server kicked out the player due to ping timeout.


Balance changes:



  • Tweaked the ratings and gear of some bots.
  • The Crusader can use Spirit Wolf Pelt and Spirit Wolf Skull.
  • Cruelty: level 4 is obtained at 200 wins and level 5 at 300 (down from 250 and 500, respectively).
  • Scepter of Toth: triggers at 25 damage and above, down from 30.

Free To Play!

This patch makes Ironbound completely free to play



We have removed the "demo" mode which caused so much confusion, and all content can now be accessed for free, without restrictions. Instead of the one-time unlock fee we had before, we now offer a gold booster account upgrade, which gives 3 times more gold for ranked victories, therefore allowing players to progress faster. The booster can be purchased for 1 day, 7 days or permanently.

We've adjusted the economy to account for this change. We kept the ranked victory reward at 100 gold, but increased the prices for items and character upgrades. Players who have the booster should find that the amount of effort necessary to obtain a new item is comparable to the situation before this patch.

All the accounts which were unlocked before this patch have been given the permanent booster, plus 10,000 gold to smooth over the transition. We've also reset everyone's multiplayer stats (rating, rank, perks and match history).

We hope this change will make the game more accessible and encourage more people to play on the ladder. Over the next few weeks we will add daily quests and a new game mode, so stay tuned!

Selected changes and fixes



  • The insignia at the top of the multiplayer menu changes based on the current rank.
  • Gaining a new multiplayer rank is rewarded with gold.
  • Tokens played by opponent face the player and have a small delay before disappearing.
  • Fire Chant: 2-5 damage, up from 1-5.
  • Added hint popups for various events, e.g. when a perk is upgraded and must be activated.
  • Fixed: keyboard input didn't work on Mac when the game was full screen.
  • Better titles on the buttons in the main menu.


New items



  • Cursed Ankh (trinket, all classes): Each time you attack with a weapon, both players gain 1% critical hit chance permanently.
  • Jar of Horus (trinket, Assassin and Witch): Each time you gain a token from your enemy's deck, deal its AP cost as damage.
  • Book of the Dead (trinket, all classes): Deal 10 damage to yourself and ignore damage from your enemy until your next turn.
  • Mirror of Ra (trinket, all classes): While you have less HP than your enemy, both players have a 20% chance to miss on all weapon attacks.
  • Kurgan Blade (2H sword, Berserker and Witch): This weapon has +3 damage if you have more HP than your enemy, and -3 damage when you have less.
  • Golden Khopesh (1H sword, all classes except Berserker): Each time you deal 30 or more damage with this weapon, double your damage for its next attack.
  • Scepter of Toth (1H hammer, Crusader): Each time you deal 30 or more damage with this weapon, heal for the same amount.
  • Blade of Ra (1H sword, all classes): You can attack multiple times per turn, but each attack costs +1 AP.
  • Scythe of Anubis (2H sword, Berserker and Witch): Each time you die due to self damage, resurrect with 30 HP.
  • Wall of Montu (shield, all classes except Witch): Each time you block the entire damage, deal 3 damage per turn over 3 turns to your enemy (stacking).
  • Pretorian Mark (trinket, Crusader): Each time you suffer a critical hit gain Last Stand for the next turn.
  • Crown of Thorns (trinket, Crusader): Each time you deal damage during your opponent's turn, gain 2 weapon damage for your next turn.
  • Light of Dawn (trinket, Crusader): Each time your Mastery perk triggers, gain a Healing Word token.
  • Fenrir Fang (trinket, Berserker): Each time your Mastery perk triggers, gain an Overpower token.
