Update 6/21/16 *BURN, BABY, BURN!*

Hello again!

Ah yes, I do so love the announcement feature as you can see. Did you know that for each announcement I make Valve doesn't pay me 5 cents? It's true! Now on to the deal:

I had to change how the Priestly Pyro prayer works. Here's how it used to work-

Duration 21 + (FAI / 2) seconds
Damage 1
Chance to inflict burn on enemy: 100%

As you can see, that's pretty strong, but what prompted me to change it is that you could stunlock almost any hard enemy with it for easy kills. Just like I make changes to make things easier for people when they're too hard (example: The dragon checkpoint save room, the Grind-O-Rama dungeon for XP, etc) I also must make changes when I feel ways to cheese the game are discovered. Myself, I never used Priestly Pyro too much so I didn't realize how powerful it really was.

Here's how it works now-

Duration 21 + (FAI / 2) seconds
Damage 2
Chance to inflict burn on enemy: 100%

Looks like I made it stronger, huh? There's a big difference now though and that is every time the fires strike an ENEMY it will reduce the overall duration by 1 second. So in a short amount of time you can burn blast the hell out of your enemies for more damage than last time but for bosses and other tough SOBs you won't be able to rely on your fires alone anymore because they'll go out much faster.

Trust me guys, this is for the best. But in case you don't think so here's not one but THREE COOKIES I've also included in this new update:

Grind-O-Rama has 3 new gear exclusives that can sometimes be found within. These items will disappear once you leave the challenge dungeons but will be a great help while you're in there since you're forced to fight at such a low level.

"Grind Branch" is a 2-handed magical tree branch you can possibly find while in the WUSS section of the place. It deals STR and FAI damage and has a 25% XP bonus property too. This will be very helpful for you new guys who are using the place to grind up levels for the early parts of the game.

"Ancient Harpoon" is another 2-handed mega spear that can sometimes be found while in the BADASS section of the dungeon. It not only has a chance to burn your foes it also has a brand-new gear property called 'Find Eye' which will increase the chances of enemies within dropping demon eyeballs.

"Stink Eye" is a rare accessory that can also be found in the BADASS section of the Grind-O-Rama. It will also increase the odds that monsters can drop demon eyeballs. And since it's the only accessory in the joint, it will have no competition whatsoever!

---

Adding these new Grind-O-Rama exclusives was really fun and surprisingly easy. I wouldn't bet against seeing some new ones pop up here in the future.

"Out of Order", no more!

Because you just KNOW that whenever you release some nice new shiny thing of course something's going to go wrong ːsteamfacepalmː

What was happening was that the main storyline missions for the game were getting all DISCOMBOBULATED somehow. But it just didn't make any sense on WHY this was happening, as nothing that usually connects the missions would have gotten affected this way.

Here was the error:

Missions 'Originality Supreme' through 'Cardinal Rule' worked how they should have, and then after the reward screen it directly jumped to a mission that's supposed to take place 5 or 6 later (and without going back to town first, or stopping the reward screen music!). If you won that Peeing Guard mission, it'd time warp you back a few missions but along the line another wrong frame jump would happen until eventually it hit an Intermission early and then took you back to town, where the Evil Dungeon Door (-tm) was permanently closed.

I believe the scientific name for this happenstance is: FUBAR

Do you know what it ended up being? Some giant equation? Some cryptic file action? NOPE. Somehow during the game-making process I happened to accidentally swap a few of the multimedia fusion frames with each other (how'd this happen? It's actually really easy to do if you're not careful enough). So often during the Reward Screen a set Intermission sequence or something else would be called upon by a Frame # ID. And when the frames were swapped around, the game still jumped to that same Frame # ID, only this time it was something completely different and it screwed the pooch big time!

Thanks to 'Deathofcheese' for finding this error and letting me know about it ASAP, and I've since located and fixed everything a few hours ago as well as start a new game from scratch and run through everything to double check the mission sequences (which check out once again).

So it might be a bit embarrassing but I only wish other devs would be so forthcoming with their game's players and not keep them in the dark so much. :JAC_Shemp:

JAC Expansion, out right now!!

Well, that didn't take very long!

Enjoy the game's new expansion, "Scholar of the First Wuss", starting right now today. Whether you want to use the optional challenge dungeon or not, there's a lot of other changes that have been made to the game to make it better overall (see the last news post for more details on these).

Any questions please ask on the JAC forums and thanks!

Just a Cleric Expansion: "Scholar of the First Wuss"

After another marathon 13 straight hours of work on this today (!!) I'm happy to say that the JAC expansion is finally done.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=706394658
SCHOLAR OF THE FIRST WUSS is my big 'thank you' to you guys who gave my game a shot when you could have been playing some AAA deal made by 500 professionals with a $50 million dollar budget.

Here's all of the differences, large and small:

ADDITIONS:
==========

  • Grind-O-Rama, a new repeatible dungeon in which you can earn XP and demon eyeballs, with 2 categories of challenge for those who want to try: 'Wuss' and 'Badass'. Can you survive 3 waves of random enemies with nothing but the gear the dungeon gives you? You can access this as early as level 5. Where is it? Remember, this game has lots of false walls and stuff..

  • New Cursed Items! A new type of gear for our cleric, cursed items come in blood red bags and are quite powerful, with at least one drawback.

  • New currency! Collect demonic eyeballs inside Grind-O-Rama and use them at the..

  • New Shop! Hidden next to the Grind-O-Rama, my old Equin creations make a comeback of sorts and one of them offers to sell you most of the new cursed gear here in exchange for demonic eyeballs. He'll also exchange $20 in cash for 1 of these eyeballs.

  • New Grind-O-Rama features: The blue Power Potion (gives the 'rages of battle' effect) and Super Homogenized Milk (+100% PP) can be found within. You can also hack down suspended weights on the ceiling and crush any enemies below, or ride the elevators. Both of these are in the 'Badass' challenge.

  • Hyper Emerson's contest-winning weapon, the Demon Head, can now be had by killing none-other than the Super Demon itself. Can you rise to the challenge and take his OWN FRIGGIN' HEAD to use as a weapon??

  • The Badass Badge, a new accessory, is a unique item that only drops off the Dragon during the regular game. Wear it and completely change your cleric's appearance to that of a badass Templar Knight in armor.

  • Two brand new pieces of music from The Booger Myers Band! Took a whole day to do, but was well worth it.

  • Any blessed weapon (+5) now gains an automatic attack speed increase. This won't show up on the gear's stat page due to space limitations, but you'll notice a difference or my name's not Willy P. Dingledong (which it isn't).

  • A small new explorable ledge was added to the Dragon's dungeon.

  • A small text display now shows how many items are in your pack at all the shops.

CHANGES:
=========

  • All cleric weapon hitboxes have been revamped. The collision should not be a LOT more accurate, but be warned it's pixel perfect and might take some getting used to!

  • The cleric's level is now capped at 16. You can still get stat increases from other methods (ex. from black chests or invisible stat icons).

  • The Twin Gripper ring got an attack boost from +2 to +10 while using a two-handed weapon.

  • Sand storms can now happen in the 'Water Me Timbers' mission during NG+.

  • 'Goin Batty' mission reward is now a random piece of regular (NG) or silver gear (NG+).

  • 'We Aim to Please' mission reward changed to $15 and 10 arrows.

  • 'Castle of A-Hole' mission reward changed from $150 to $100 cash.

  • 'Isle of Denial' mission reward is now a random piece of silver gear (NG+).

  • 'Quite a Pickle' mission reward changed to $30 cash (was $40).

  • The Quarters Staff and Magic Shirt got a price reduction at the Enterprising Wizard's. These are now $200 and $120, respectively.

BUG FIXES:
==========

<*>Moved a torch to the layer it's supposed to be on in the desert (thanks to Sauce Bauce's playthrough, this is where I saw it from).

<*>Fixed it so you can no longer get over $9999 from selling stuff at the shop (thanks to Hyper Emerson for breaking the game enough to get this rich lol).

<*>Fixed all the stat displays to show the correct number once you get over 100 points (which is the max 99 plus modifiers from your gear, thanks again Hyper Emerson!)

<*>Fixed a bug where the cleric could get stuck inside a barrel after he got punched by a golem and went sailing through the air, and happened to land inside one. Now if this happens he'll simply destroy the barrel. (Thanks Hyper Emerson!)

<*>Fixed a bug where sometimes the two guards will give you the 'Failed mission' texts while between the regular missions. (I have only myself to thank for this one!)

<*>Fixed the DREADED shield blocking pop up display so it won't show up when an arrow trap shoots anymore. (Thanks to Sauce Bauce who showed me this was really something that needed to be fixed even if it didn't effect the gameplay).

---

And I believe that's about it. All in all, I've probably put 100 hours into making this expansion for you in my free time, which of course will be retroactive in case you just bought JAC now or earlier today or something. I plan on releasing this to the core game via an update sometime this upcoming week.

I will be manning the forums like always in case anybody has questions, and will address any issues that pop up from time to time of course, but for now I think I can safetly say:

THE END

JAC Expansion info... PART FOUR!

Some more good news!

Tonight I was able to finish the smaller of the 2 sections which will make up the coveted 'grinding area' (not that, you perv!)

Here's how it works:

The grinding area is set up like a challenge. You didn't think freedom was free, did ya? Upon entering one of two challenges aptly named "WUSS" and "BADASS" you will be magically WHISKED AWAY to your port of call..

Inside, all of your current gear, level and stats will be temporarily made unavailable to you. Why? Because you will be given a set level, randomized low stats, and tasked to kill enemies randomly tossed about the joint.. using randomized gear that's ALSO been tossed about the joint.

Kill enemies with the gear within to win! You could even score those new coveted DEMON EYEBALLS to buy the new cursed gear I've added to the game!

And any XP you get from enemies will be stored up and rewarded to you upon exiting the challenge area, as well as you'll get your regular stats, level, and gear back.

Sound like fun? That's because it is!

Way more to come later, VIVA LA CLERIC!! :JAC_Cleric:

Guides Galore!!

We now have a fantastic new guide submitted from JAC super player Hyper Emerson that shows the locations for all 33 of the invisible stat icons strewn about the NG+ run of the game.

Check it out along with the previous Prayer and Equipment guides when you get a shot, and be sure to vote for it as the best guide of all time!

http://steamcommunity.com/app/467330/guides/

Got a good idea for your own guide to the game you'd like to see immortalized in the STEAMINESS to STEAMITUDE? It's all hands on deck and anyone's game so I say: Go for it!

JAC Progress Report, Part Three!

I've already posted some of these changes on the main thread, but was able to get to a ton of things done on this tonight as well:

---

  • The regular game dragon will always drop a specific new cursed item. This is going to be the only way to obtain this particular item as cursed gear can't be found from chests. Upon defeating the dragon in NG+ and beyond it will drop a random piece of gold gear.

  • The Super Boss will now always drop Hyper Emerson's contest-winning weapon. If you re-enter his area with this special weapon either equipped or in your backpack he will instead drop a random piece of gold gear. If you sell the special weapon or otherwise get rid of it, killing the Super Boss again will get you another contest-winning weapon. You can fight him until the end of time if you want.

  • Cursed Gear is a thing. They come in red bags and are either really powerful or have an unusual equipment property. In all case, there is at least some sort of negative thing about them (hence CURSED!) This new type of gear can't ever be found in chests randomly like everything else. They also can't ever be upgraded or blessed.

  • The purple "M" (mode) up in the right hand corner of the HUD that tells you if you're playing a 'N'ormal or 'H'ardcore mode game has been replaced with an EVIL RED EYE. This is the new form of currency- demonic eyeballs! These will only be found within the new grinding area.

  • The new shop is completed! Just finished tonight, in fact. It's here at the CUSP of the new grinding area where you'll be able to trade in your new eyeball currency for 5 of the new cursed items and a 6th option to exchange 1 eyeball for $20 cash. Since some people had some difficulty obtaining money early on in the game, I thought this would be a good service to add.

  • I've added a little text to show how many items are in your backpack while visiting the Enterprising Wizard's house (the same pack display that's at the shop currently).

  • All weapons you bless and get to +5 now receive... An extra swing speed bonus! This bonus unfortunately won't be visible on the weapon's stat page but it's true! The speed boost is slightly better than the one you get while equipped with a Silver Ring. And good news, folks: This speed bonus stacks with any other attack speed booster you have too! (Includes the "Rages of Battle" effect)

  • The shield block "BLOCKED" display now no longer appears when an arrow shot from an arrow trap hits a wall. It just displays when you, you know, shield block something. Wow!

  • Bug Fix: If you have $9999 at the shop and sell something the cash won't go above $9999 in there anymore (Thanks Hyper Emerson for getting this much money to find this out!)

  • Bug Fix: It's rare but possible to get stuck inside a barrel if one of the golem bosses punches you at just the right spot on the 'Isle of Denial' mission. I've made it so that if you do happen to fly into a barrel you'll instead destroy it. (Thanks to Hyper Emerson for finding this!)

  • If you are in fact the second coming of you-know-who and somehow manage to pump 99 points into a stat.. and have gear that further boosts that stat.. the text display should now correctly show the proper amount. What was happening before is a stat might get truncated (in display only) when you got over 99 total. (Thanks to... oh you know who it was who found this I bet!)

  • The final Dragon Cave area got a slight addition right above the entrance. You'll need some nifty gear to find a way up there later on but it's worth mentioning since it's new.

Not bad for 4 and a half hours of work, I gotta' say!

All this and way more will be in the Expansion to come later, for free and retroactive for all players both old and new.

JAC Progress Report #2

Blah! Can I tell you how not fun it sometimes is to program for 10+ hours in a row on your day off? Thankfully I have resurfaced to come up for air now for this HERE announcement (albeit very briefly, since nobody's going to make this for me haha).

The main good news is that FINALLY after all this time I've moved all the new gear to every screen. This took absolutely forever and was extremely tedious to say the least.

While doing this though, I've added a seventh (and for sure final!) piece of cursed gear to the expansion.

In addition I've made some small but necessary changes to the core game:

  • The Quarters Staff at the wizard had a price reduction from $400 to $200
  • All weapons hit boxes have been expanded to give more leeway
  • The Twin Gripper ring got an attack boost from +2 to +10
  • Fixed a bug where the guards sometimes tell you you failed a mission between missions
  • The Contest winner's weapon now drops off the Super Boss

Well, all of these will be in the JAC expansion of course, along with a bunch more stuff. Now I have to get back to work on this some more :JAC_Shemp:

JAC Expansion / Progress Report

"Some say that's Progress, I say that's cruel" - Peter Garrett / Midnight Oil

Hello!

I've been working a ton on the JAC expansion pack over the past week or so and the hard work's starting to pay off. Tonight I've finally finished 6 new pieces of gear which fall under the new loot class. I'm not exactly sure what to call it, but the bags are dark red. I was thinking "Cursed" since they are all powerful but all have something.. "wrong" with them.

"Hee.. Hee.." - Golden Knight / Resident jerk to our cleric

What's better is that most of these new items incorporate brand new equipment properties not found in the core game right now that you have. It should be very fun to see what players can do with them and how they mix and match their gear to fit their playstyles later.

So the hard part's done. Now for the OTHER hard part, which is to take these 6 new items and their properties and their subscreen icons and text strings and variables and all the other junk and get all of that in the right place and the right order over 40 or so other screens and areas. (To which there is a lot that goes into making even just a single stinking item for this game).

And once all that's done, which will take a while there's no doubt about it, then comes the slightly-less hard part of making that grinding area that so many want to see in the game (including me!)
