KOTCL Developer Diaries: cards, events, and two pieces of splash art
Knock-knock, adventurers!
It's almost the end of December, and we're still working on improvements!
Not so long ago we made two big updates, in which we updated a lot of cards and events, as well as fixed some bugs. If you haven't seen what's new in the game yet, don't forget to read the big update post! Oh, by the way, right now our game is on sale! Don't know what to get your friends for Christmas? Here we are!
Now we’ll continue with our development journey. Clean your beaks, sharpen your fangs, warm up – and let’s go!
The swamps are becoming more and more attractive!
But that’s not only because it's much easier to walk through them now. Just look at how hospitable people who live here are! Each of them is willing to offer us some serious venture, which will certainly affect our journey in some way. But our heroes wouldn’t be heroes if they didn’t help this unfortunate guy, would they? Besides, those guys with torches look really menacing.
Local flora and fauna are also full of life force. We’re not too sure whether these mushrooms have special properties or consciousness. It’s probably not worth eating them either… But it can’t hurt to try that, just remember that you need to know when to stop.
How are things in the steppes?
In the last diary we met orcs; in this one we’ll take a look at the goblin territory. Goblins are usually on the smaller side, they scurry around everywhere, and their faces look quite cunning. This guy clearly knows his worth, otherwise he wouldn't have grown so big and sat on the throne. And his belly is so tempting to touch, even if this is the last thing you do in your life!
Vanadis splash-art updates are coming very soon
Updated animated versions are about to replace the already familiar art. We can't help but show you at least a couple of finished ones. It remains only to get them moving a little! ⠀⠀⠀
Good hands give a good deck!
We continue to work on the cards. Our artists are constantly updating their art and drawing what’s missing. This week we’ve been actively refurbishing older images so that the cards you already know will be even better. We’ve also finished several new cards; you can already see them here! ⠀⠀⠀⠀

We're rushing to you with yet another update - it's pretty big, lots of bug fixes have been made, so check out the latest version!
Here's what's new and what's fixed:
Very hard difficulty is now VERY hard. You asked for it!
Fixed a bug where Persival Knight's ally summon card had a target
Added new artworks for Vanadis’s cards
Fixed a bug where the fight with Sigismund would freeze after playing the “Withdrawal to the Shadow” card
Fixed Vanadis’s Troll Bow; now when attacking all enemies, the vulnerability is applied to all
Fixed a bug where Orc Boots would regenerate health when dealing damage to Immunity
Fixed a bug where the “Advance” card was not being played
Fixed a bug with incorrect display of the Secret magic counter for Millenis
Fixed a bug where the effect of the Orc Spear did not work on summoned enemies
Fixed a bug where the “Troll Peacemaker” event would freeze when trying to pass ale
Fixed a bug where the Magic feather trophy did not take Lycan's Lunar Curse into account
Reworked the Mosquito sucker trophy

Replacing Wandering Merchant rewards for Bjorn

Reworked the reward in the Orc Idol
“Complete Elimination” card now burns when used while playing as Bjorn

Knock-knock, adventurers!
Another week and another entry into our logbook. Today we’re going to explore the steppes. Get ready to meet goblins and orcs! Stock up on water, sharpen your blades – and let's go!
Transitions between locations
We decided to update the transitions between locations, so very soon you’ll be able to feast your eyes on the scenic views during loading. Just look at the transition we've made for the Crimson Steppes!
Local gangs
We don't like sand that much; it's rough, hard, and unpleasant. It penetrates everything… But for these guys, it doesn't seem to cause any problems at all. But that’s no surprise, since they grew up here, and they know every oasis and every dune. Tumbleweeds give way to them when their paths cross. But maybe they aren’t as formidable as they would like to be? Come and get to know them if you dare!
Taking a breather in an oasis
Well, you should’ve taken more water with you, shouldn’t you have? Meeting with those orcs made you sweat so heavily that now there’s not a drop of liquid left in you! What is that looming ahead there? It seems to be a new oasis. You can definitely find cool, fresh water there. It's worth stopping and taking a break in the shade.
Healer Goblin
A new land and a new misadventure, oof. It seems that you caught some unknown disease. But don’t be afraid: if you meet this perky doctor on your way, he’ll definitely help you. But make sure to have enough gold with you, because medicine is never free!

Vanadis and her pets on some new card art
Vanadis’ deck keeps getting updated. Here’s what you need for the upcoming journey through the steppes. Surely this trio knows a lot about fighting the annoying goblins and serious orcs. You only need the right card.

Knock-knock, adventurers!
Another week has passed. The new year is coming very soon, and we continue to work on improving Knock On The Coffin Lid. There’s not much news this week: we’ve devoted all our time to bug-fixes and small improvements which can already be seen in the game.
Shall we help the troll?
Our artist department recently shared with us the news that the event with the wounded troll is almost completely redone. This guy has gotten a high-quality rendering and the opportunity to get rid of the sword stuck in his back. Very soon we’ll update the event, and you’ll have a better look at all the details. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’re finishing the animation of the mosquitoes
Our animators have finished animating the swamp inhabitants and switched to other tasks, but we just can't help showing you how colourful our bloodsuckers turned out. They’re fast; they float like butterflies and sting like ... mosquitoes! It's better not to mess around with these boys, or you might lose your health!
New additions to Vanadis’ deck
This week we’ve spent a lot of time creating card art for our archer. Very soon it will take its rightful place in the deck, but for now you can admire it in this diary! ⠀⠀⠀⠀

Knock-knock, travelers!
What a week! We’ve released a new patch and shown you a lot of new things. Not everything was to your liking, but we received your feedback and we’ll try to add another patch in the near future, taking into account your wishes.
Despite having a difficult week, we took the time to arrange a stream with one of the developers of the game. We played for Persival and told you how the game has been improved and changed.
At 5 PM (GMT+2) on December 5 we’ll be playing for Vanadis, so don't miss it!
Questionable rest
The development continues. We’ve continued our travels through the swamps. On our way we’ve come across strange characters. This guy, for example, seems to have laid down to rest, or maybe he hasn’t. Anyway, his shoes will fit your hero just right, so be sure to check out this guy in the Swamp Fever event!
A lucrative offer
It's not easy to wander around the swamps where the cultists live. This gentleman, for example, wants to show us something top-secret, and possibly terrifying, so we can't just pass him by. But what is he offering? We'll find out when we meet him on the map!

Do you remember the feisty little girl we saw with very strange company last time? She has gotten her own combat model and will soon show you how she can move!
Working on cards
Our artists continue making Vanadis’ cards. Here's the progress we’ve made this week. We can't wait to add these cards to the game! ⠀⠀⠀⠀

Quick fix for version 0.4.31.2 (x32, x64)
Fixed the issue with the game crashing for the new players;
fixed the disappearing button for the final fight;
fixed the language choice panel;
various minor bug fixes.
Big update 0.4.31!
Hello, travelers!
The long-awaited update 0.4.31 is already available in the game!
There are a lot of changes in this version - from visuals to balance. Let's take a closer look at what awaits you in this version:
Fixes
Fixed a bug when Elven Idol stage did not start in the "Down with the Idols" event;
Fixed a bug that did not start the battle in the “Sniper” event;
Fixed a duplicated phrase in the “Elven Hospitality” event;
Fixed a bug when Elixir of Damage ignored evasion;
The “Continue” button in chest events is removed;
Fixed inconsistency in the texts of Vanadis in the “Metamorph” event;
Fixed overfilling with text for Persival in the “Bandit Camp” event;
Fixed an issue of Axe of Blood did not increase damage on summoned units;
Fixed an issue of Bjorn could not get an ally in the “Alpha Wolf” event;
Fixed an issue of Sigismund not transforming while under the effect of freezing;
Fixed an issue of Bjorn (Lunar Druid) unable to complete the quest “Voices of the Stars”;
Fixed incorrect calculation of HP received in the “One Blood” event;
Changed the effects of most trophies;
Fixed an issue of the Mace of the Inscribed Flaming Mace of Purity not applying Burning;
Fixed looping in Percival's “Hide and Seek” event;
Fixed issues with rewards and some cards not dropping at all;
Fixes of a large number of bugs and errors;
Fixed the playback of unplayable cut scenes;
Fixed the incorrect training of pets in the new event system;
Balance and what’s new in this version:
Chinese translation added in beta version. The translation will change over time, if you notice errors, feel free to send us a report from the game!
Missing icons have been added to the events of the Frontier location;
Reduced the amount of Strength that Vanadis has from Blood Ending;
Nerf of the Crimson Steppes set: the bonus to strength for winning the battle is now activated with 3 items of the set;
Nerf of the Crimson Steppes set: 2 parts of the set increase damage not strength, as in previous version;
Added transfer effects to points in Frontier events;
Added a new level of upgrading the starting cards for Vanadis (Sniper);
Orc helmet is improved. Now it protects against hallucinations;
The number of allies that Percival (Knight) can obtain has increased;
The principle of spreading of the Plague effect has been changed. Plague now spreads when an infected deals damage to health;
Percival (Knight) Ally Summon card now burns;
The mechanics of many opponents are reworked, both ordinary and elite;
Swamps location is seriously weakened. Enemies respawn with 50% health, less status cards added to the deck;
Added new trophy sacrifice mechanic. Now donating a trophy lets the player to upgrade 2 cards;
All maps have been redrawn and rebalanced. Runs are shorter and with fewer battles;
updated event system;
Camp events are rebuilt for the new system;
Merchant events are rebuilt for the new system;
Added items and trophies for events;
Added cards for event items;
Added travel notes for Bjorn and Percival after the first meeting with Millenis;
Added a tooltip and simplification for the Golden Buffalo fight;
The illusions of Millenis are buffed in the battle with Bjorn;
Added quest items to help in the fight with Millenis;
Strengthened the goblin in the "Choose Your Side" event;
Added preparations for the future expansion of the quest component of the game;
Added a preliminary connection of the final bosses with the new karma system;
New unique combats related to events.
