Update 1.2.6 released!

A small but colorful update dedicated to the creative track builders in the community. Some bugfixes included too ;)

Changelist

  • Added 2 new color variations for the building blocks in The Drawing Board.
  • Fixed weight values being shown for some parts, to be more consistent.
  • Changed the weight value of some lipos. (Affects your setup? Try the "additional weight" slider)
  • Re-ordered the track elements added in 1.2.5 to be consistent in their order based on their color.
  • Fixed ambient lighting issues in some levels.

The Drawing Board

The Drawing Board has become an iconic part of Liftoff. Originally designed to be a sterile environment for training and practice purposes, it has quickly evolved into a favoured canvas for the most creative people in the community. The more than 2500 creations available on the Steam workshop are downright impressive!

The Drawing Board, with its grid, blue colors and paper textures has always aimed for a clean "blueprint" look & feel. The limit in color choices being an intentional graphics design choice that safeguards the visual consistency of the level, no matter what the track builder has created. However, since this is such a popular level for creative people, the team at LuGus Studios has experimented with extended color pallets. We have included a neutral white block type and a detail color: the complimentary orange color. We think these additions will allow for more creativity, while safeguarding the clean look that The Drawing Board was designed for. On top, these additions also apply to the Night Fever DLC!
We can't wait to see your creations!

Update 1.2.5 released

Update 1.2.5 brings new track elements, bug fixes and some exciting eSports promises.

  • Added two new "boxed" gate variations, each in 5 different colors.
  • Added a new flag element, also in 5 different color variations.
  • Fixed an issue with Hannover Track 05.
  • Fixed an issue that didn't show the correct version number
  • Fixed collider issue with trees in Bardwell's Yard and Bando City
  • Improved new backend system (still work in progress)
  • Minor bugfixes

eSport Rhein-Neckar Liftoff division

The competitive scene of Liftoff is ramping up in 2020. We have the regular Liftoff Pro League tournaments, the French Rotor's Cool leagues and starting this year there will be a new Liftoff division within the German eSport Rhein-Neckar club (ERN).
The new division will start with a weekly flying / training in Liftoff (every Thursday at 18 pm) and will gradually expand to more initiatives such as:
  • Regular local Liftoff tournaments
  • Tiny Whoop style activities
  • Setting up a "crafting corner"
  • Countless other projects.

To celebrate the official announcement of the ERN Liftoff division, this update includes some new ERN branded track elements!

10k Workshop Milestone!

A massive community milestone was reached! :o

Liftoff now has more than 10.000 pieces of community created content, available for free on the Steam Workshop! With more than 4000 racetracks and 3000 custom drone setups available the possibility are endless!

An achievement like this is only possible with the combined efforts of a creative and passionate community, a big THANK YOU for making this possible!

Update 1.2.4 released

With massive updates and announcements imminent, 2020 will mark the start of a new era for Liftoff. We end 2019 with a small 1.2.4 update.

Changelist:

  • Added 14 new official racetracks (not environment) completing the list from the 1.2.3 update.
  • Fixed faulty Straw Bale and Bardwell's Yard tracks.
  • Fixed issue with leaderboard times not always saving.

2020

The team at LuGus Studios wish you all happy holidays!

We have plenty of amazing things planned for 2020, it's going to be a massive year for Liftoff. Early in the year we plan to release our new environment: Russian Woodpecker. We also hope to to do a massive engine upgrade soon, that should bring a whole bunch of improvements, including performance improvements.

You can also expect a new and exciting project announcement and the launch of a new Liftoff website to mark the beginning of a new era for the franchise. We hope you are as excited as we are, we can't wait to share with you all what we have been working on behind the scenes.

Triple XP week!

Level up and unlock cosmetics like never before!

To celebrate the release of our new official racetracks, we organise our first triple XP week.
Receive 3 times the amount of XP points for flying official tracks in Liftoff between 10 Dec and 17 Dec. Have fun!

Update 1.2.3 released!

The first in a series of updates that will drastically increase the number of official tracks in Liftoff. Can you master them all?

Changelist:

  • Adding 27 new, never before seen, official racetracks (created by DerHonk and Bomba). Note: not new environments
  • Created new backend system to continue to support massive amounts of Leaderboard data.
  • Improved the parts and frame specs shown in the Workbench
  • Fixed an issue with the connection between Liftoff and the Liftoff Discord channel
  • Minor bugfixes

New backend system

When we first launched the Track Builder with the Steam Workshop integration we expected to see a few custom tracks from the community every year. More than 4000 custom tracks later, we realise we had underestimated our community.

Due to the huge amounts of leaderboards (4 leaderboards per track), we are running into the limits of the number of leaderboards we can create on Steam. We've now expanded our Liftoff Pro backend system to host these leaderboards, and have migrated them from Steam to our platform. This gives us an unlimited amount of leaderboards, and the freedom to keep the monthly leaderboards for our own, new tracks and races.

Update 1.2.2 released!

20 September will be a day to remember, and the Liftoff team got your back! Featuring a flying saucer, Liftoff is now your ultimate training tool to get you ready for the raid. Live long and prosper!

Changelist

  • Added new UFO skin for the Vega HSX frame.
  • Update Bando City to include tournament winner names.
  • >>> Added optional track guides (great for learning a track) >>>
  • Added track export function to the track editor to export tracks to your documents folder.
  • Fixed issue with the 'Always detect stunt' game option where it would freeze the game.
  • Minor bugfixes

Track guides

Update 1.2.2 adds track guides to Liftoff, helping both new players and veterans to better learn new tracks. These guides are optional and can be turned off in the game options. Track guides are automatically generated on both official and custom tracks and are generated based on your position and speed at the previous gate. This means each guide line is personalised for you during each flight session. Nonetheless, these track guides are not perfect race lines, they should be considered as direction suggestions.

Windows 10 Controller issues

Due to a recent Windows 10 update that affects drivers of USB devices, some remotes may fail to be recognised in Liftoff (and other simulators). Since this is an issue outside of the Liftoff code there's not a definitive fix we can provide, although we are exploring workarounds and talking to our hardware partners who might be able to provide a more definitive fix.

For now, there's a workaround that seems to work for most people who experience issues. This document details a few steps you can take to get things working again: Windows 10 - Reinstall Remote USB Driver

Liftoff update rate

With more than a 120 updates to date, Liftoff has enjoyed a rich update history. Fans might have noticed our update cycle has slowed down a bit lately. Luckily that's not a sign of development slowing down, on the contrary. The team has been hard at work on something really big behind the scenes. 2020 is surely going to be one of the biggest years for Liftoff to date and we can't wait to tell you what we have worked on in secret for over a year now. Stay tuned for more.

While our work on this secret project is ongoing, our love for Liftoff has not dropped. We continue to work on your typical Liftoff updates, 1.2.2 being one of them, but more to come in the near future.

Thank you for your continuous support, it's you that make all of this possible!

Liftoff Racing Team

Last weekend, the German Liftoff Racing Team participated in the Championship Worms 2019 event, hitting top 10 places in their very first race as a team. We couldn't be more proud of them!

A Liftoff Racing team, you say? Yes! A few weeks ago we were approached by long-time Liftoff players Mr.D, GTag_Graphics and vex-sk, responsible for more than 3500 hours of Liftoff flight time between them, with a request to represent Liftoff at real life races.

Veteran Liftoff supporters: check! Great pilots: check! Community initiative: check!
Of course we said yes ;) Their enthusiasm and dedication to the cause reminds us why we have the best community in FPV. Thank you guys! We are excited to send them some goodies and gear to look the part, and can’t wait to see them destroy the track on their next race event!
