Monsters' Den Godfall v1.18 Changelog - Achievements!

This update adds Steam Achievements as well as many bug fixes and other improvements.

Important Changes

  • Party Assignments have been rebalanced. Party Strength has a much wider range making difference in character levels more meaningful. Most assignments are now more effective at the high end, but Reputation assignments are less powerful in general.
  • 'Ironman' mode - Can be selected when starting a new campaign. Difficulty can not be changed and only one save slot is available in this mode.
  • 'Switches' Puzzle Chest added to encounter pool for newly generated dungeons
  • New item - 'Mind Leech'. Unlearns all skills and refunds skill points. (Keep Quartermaster)
  • Keep Quartermaster has a new shop category: Special Orders
  • All faction representatives have a new shop category: Special Training
  • New cosmetic enchantments are available in Savantir
  • Skill tree restrictions on medium and heavy gloves have been removed (Spellwardens rejoice!)
  • Changed raw stat bonuses on shards to percentage bonuses
  • Changed raw stat bonuses on equipment sets to percentage bonuses
  • Orc 'Blood Rage' innate has had its regeneration reduced and broken into into a seperate condition that is disabled by Flame damage
  • The influence penalty for losing in battle now scales up with mission difficulty
  • Abandoned artifact quests now go back in the Library 'waiting' pool (no need to be researched again)
  • Changed rarity tables for locked / puzzle chests
  • 'Circles' Puzzle Chest has improved animation
  • 'Arcturus' Wrath' skill - damage improved
  • New resolution option: 3840 x 2160 (4k)
  • Added/improved some skill animations - more to come
  • Added a blur effect to the background behind the active window. This can be disabled in the options screen.
  • The game now triggers an autosave after the tutorial ends
  • New hotkey: can use 'Tab' to cycle through characters in inventory/character/use skills screens
  • Removed character level label during deployment
  • The quest complete screen now shows reputation totals that include the quest reward



Smaller Changes and Bugfixes

  • 'Inspecting the Keep' quest can no longer be restarted
  • Fixed an issue where aborting a quest did not always remove the location from the overland map
  • 'Remove Tag' attribute is no longer hidden from tooltip (eg on Wraithstone)
  • 'Fall Back' skill fixed, immediately causes retreat
  • 'Cancels Health Regeneration' should no longer appear on tooltips twice
  • Fixed an issue with some conditions that canceled health regeneration not behaving correctly
  • Fixed several typos in conversation dialogue
  • 'Divine Power Sauce' no longer counts as using a Tonic
  • Fixed skillbar issues arising when a Stolen Talent grants a skill the character already has
  • Requested bounties can no longer spill over across saved games
  • 'Cult Collaborators' mission, fixed quest objective text

This is an update that brings some requested quality-of-life changes and numerous bug fixes.

Important Changes

  • Damage mitigation effects now cannot reduce damage below 1. If a character is hit by a damaging attack, they will now always take at least 1 damage.
  • Character stats screen and battle inspect screens now have tooltips explaining all statistics
  • Higher difficulty settings now have an effect on experience gain and loot quality from battle (note that this does not apply to found treasure)
  • New option for instant dungeon movement
  • Shops now have specific shopkeepers that can be spoken to for more information
  • Additional tutorial dialog and new help popups
  • Help bubble popups remember when they've been dismissed
  • Hiring new characters in the first month of the game is now free, making it easier to change your starting party
  • Tonics now work differently. No more 'liver damage', characters can use one tonic for each character level, at any time. Improved tonic tooltip to show how many more tonics the selected character can use.
  • Cosmetic Enhancements now use their own special slot
  • Improved handling of situations where all friendlies/enemies are hidden (now means none are)


Smaller Changes and Bugfixes

  • Fix for some 'missing dungeon' situations. Not confident enough yet to say 'all'.
  • Failsafe for situations in which an artifact would not appear in the target dungeon after loading a saved game. Should not longer be possible.
  • The wandering merchant no longer changes his stock when loading the game
  • Fixed that Hidden vfx wouldn't show when the condition was granted at start of battle
  • Fixed bug where an enemy could ignore your hidden condition if they were the last enemy alive
  • Clicking on the 'supplies left' indicator now also triggers the 'Use Healing Supplies' dialog
  • Bounties now show which faction the target enemy belongs to
  • Vault Screen: Added a hotkey for "send to vault on click" (hold Shift)
  • 'The Collector' quest can now be aborted (and taken again later). Quest description updated.
  • Nekoatl allies have a battle portrait now
  • World map settings (region names, show unexplored) are now saved between sessions
  • Dreadfather's 'force retreat' skill can be countered by Resist Mental and Cannot Retreat stats on the target
  • Fixed several issues with the Corruptor's 'Dark Mirror' skill
  • Evil duplicates of player characters understand how to use more of their skills correctly (and no more friendly fire)
  • 'Disintegrate' skill changes to 'Scales with: None' (tooltip change only, functionality remains the same)
  • 'Intercession' skill properly removes conditions with only 1 turn remaining
  • Changed many skill descriptions to be clearer
  • Changed skill upgrade text to explain what the Penetrating tag actually does
  • Fixed messages incorrectly reporting unclaimed shipments
  • Fixed an issue with lowering the game resolution while in battle
  • Fixed behaviour of mousewheel in load/save game screen
  • Double-clicking a saved game entry will save/load that slot
  • Fixed some interface strings that were too long for their fields
  • Fixed ability to customize characters created in older saved games (pre-December)
  • Fixed global unlock of 'Tracker' class
  • Fixed wrong resolution of combat floating text in windowed mode
  • Fixed incorrect "+1 item" notification on bag tab when enchanting with an item directly from a shop's inventory
  • Fix to character change animation in conversations (was showing at conversation link points, even when the same character was speaking)
  • Fixed a rare bug that could cause the campaign to repeat after completion
  • Added a visual reminder for how turn order is displayed (during deployment)
  • Changed the color of the numbers on left and right of the action clock to better hint at their purpose
  • Location field in older saves' menu no longer sometimes shows "[Location]"

Monsters' Den Godfall v1.16 Changelog

Smaller update that I wanted to get out quickly because it has a (tentative) fix for the 'missing dungeon' issue. If you continue to experience this with new quests created after this update please let me know so I can sink firmly back into despair.

Other changes:

  • Exotic-rarity items better reflect the damage/armor of their Epic base item (deviation from the norm is preserved)
  • 'Error resolving quest' when exiting dungeon is fixed
  • The quest dialog now always shows the main quest at the top
  • Reputation items now sell for slightly more than the faction will pay you
  • The Thief subclass can now take both upgrades for the Sneak Attack skill
  • Fixed the black backgrounds behind some dialog boxes
  • Superfically changed the when-hit effect on 'The Helm of the First Frostwarden' artifact to prevent conflict with other triggered effects
  • Clones can no longer use the 'Fall Back' skill

Monsters' Den Godfall v1.15 Changelog - Anniversary!

The original Monsters' Den was released ten years ago this month, way back in December 2007. To celebrate the anniversary, two of the original bosses have forced their way back into the world of Godfall! Find these challenging new quests at the Hive.

Bug fixes and changes:

  • Scrolling combat text now increases properly with interface scale
  • Added support for 2560x1440 resolution
  • New hotkey on title screen to reset resolution in case of problems - Shift-R
  • Fixed behaviour of countdown confirmation on changing resolution (result is saved immediately)
  • Now we show full portraits in the turn order display
  • Character background text is now saved and loaded correctly
  • Ascendant boss battle in Riftstorm Keep is now properly treated as the dungeon boss, drops appropriate loot
  • Fixed missing portraits and inspect sprites for Wargolem and Bear
  • Can no longer retire all company members
  • 'Unstoppable' fighting style fixed to work as described- applies Penetrating tag to all skills while active
  • 'Poisoncraft' style changed to scale with intellect as implied rather than with level

  • Rebalanced player heal scaling - at high scaling values, the differences between skills tended to disappear. Now strong healing skills remain noticeably better than weak healing skills
  • Skill upgrades that add to healing amount work better
  • Additional balance tweaks to some healing skills
  • Added simple animation to the turn order display
  • Removed the horizontal lines ('new second') from the turn order display
  • The Master of Bounties now refreshes inventory correctly

Update 1.1 - The Bounty Hunters

The first major update to Monsters' Den Godfall is here!

New Features and Content



New Bounty Rewards
Completing bounty tasks is now more lucrative than ever before. Earn Bounty Credits and redeem them at the Hive for special rewards.

New World Dungeon - The Shattered Stair
Since time immemorial it has ensnared the most powerful and ambitious. Accept the daunting challenge of this dungeon to earn exclusive new enchantments.

New Advanced Class - Tracker
These bounty-hunting agents of the Protectorate use their Trickery and Nature skills to follow and subdue their prey.

New Elite Missions
Each game month, face a selection of more difficult side missions with higher-level enemies and more powerful dungeon modifiers. Be rewarded with new skill manuals to further customize your heroes.

Ongoing Research
Veteran artifact hunters can return to the Keep Library to continue their research. There's an endless selection of Legendary items waiting to be found.


Balance Changes



Defense Rating & Armor
Defense Rating now translates into Armor based on a curve. How effective it is depends on how much you already have- adding an element of diminishing returns. Player level is no longer considered in these calculations, making it simpler to understand.

Artifacts
The damage and defense rating on Artifacts has been reduced. Characters that use multiple Artifacts at once will be put under strain and have their maximum health and power reduced.

Other Changes

  • All bosses now have a small chance to drop Exotic quality equipment
  • Dungeon rarity has an increased effect on loot quality (higher than v1.0)
  • The bonuses on some Shard enchantments have been adjusted
  • Player skills that remove Wound conditions now also remove Bleed conditions
  • The dungeon condition 'Fetid' is less powerful (look forward to the Elite version)
  • Critical Hit Severity is now capped at 350% maximum



Bug Fixes & Other Changes



Other issues addressed in this update include:

  • Overland encounter menu options now have more tooltip information
  • Fixed problems with double-clicking items in the loot window (sometimes they would vanish)
  • Fixed occasional issues with destination bags of unequipped items when equipping new items
  • Fixed the effect of the Health Regeneration % stat
  • Some skills have had their names altered to reduce confusion with other skills or effects
  • 'Hire Character' screen has a standard close interface button
  • Minor improvements to item recommendations
  • 'Nature' summons should not have their sprites cropped when inspected
  • Long company names handled better on company screen
  • Found the tooltip for the skill 'Complete Heal'
  • The 'Focused Fire' ability now only triggers on weapon attacks against enemies, as described
  • Fixed being able to get multiple copies of the Nekoatl world quest
