Version 0.9.8.2 Multiplayer Stability (+Clothes & Work XP)
Phew! This update has been a real doozy!
First, you should update to this version as soon as possible if you want to enjoy online gameplay.
We spent three days to begin with, trying to discover the cause of the Game is Full bug. We went through every piece of code that somehow connects to online play and were not able to identify it with 100% certainty.
So we decided to throw out our network service and swap it for another, much saner one. We spent the next week and a half implementing the new service and testing it before launching it for you guys'n gals now.
New Features
Required Clothes: We got a lot of requests for this one. Required clothes for each job in the Job Office are now shown.
Work XP: This one has also been requested a lot. Your current Work Experience is now shown in the info window (accessible by pressing Tab or clicking the player portrait).
New Network Features
New Server Provider: Because we swapped server providers you will need to have this version or newer to play online games. Make sure you are running version 0.9.8 or higher (visible in the bottom left of the game window). We'll shut down the old service soon.
Game is Full: Fixed the "Game is Full" bug!
Many minor bugs: We fixed a bunch of small annoying bugs (like if you accepted an invite to a lobby while in another lobby you couldn't join it)
Smart Adjustment: If any network messages get dropped or corrupted the game will try and re-adjust. This might mean that one round looks to be out of wack but the player should sync and update him/her-self correctly.
Other bugs: We probably fixed a bunch of online game bugs we didn't know about!
Faster Server: Connecting to the servers should be snappier now (in fact we found a few bugs we didn't know about because of this...).
Same Version: Players now need to have the same version of the game as the game's host. Because of the game's rapid development it's way to easy to run into problems if players with different versions run into each other.
University bug: Fixed a bug where if a Player exits the university in multiplayer with the enroll dialog open the game would go haywire.
Syncing: Fixed a bunch of sync bugs.
What does this mean for the future? Well this will allow us to do things such as
Future Possibilities
<*> Vote Kick <*> Timed rounds (1 min, 3 min, etc.) <*> Rejoin game on disconnect <*> Ability to identify and fix future network problems faster
Upcoming
German: If all goes well you'll be able to play the game in German before the end of this week.
Pets v0.1: Our art department has been drawing away for the past weeks while the programmers wrote network code. We'll be rolling out pets in iterative steps.
Soundtrack: We got some requests for the soundtrack and we will upload it soon.
Known Bugs
Network: We have tested the new network system a lot internally. We also got our community to try it out and didn't receive any complaints. That said there might still be little sneaky bugs there. If you run into any, please let us know!
Version 0.9.8.1 on Testing
Hello stalwart players!
We are pushing our big Network Stability Update onto our Testing branch right now. If you are experiencing any online multiplayer problems then you can check it out.
If all goes well over the weekend we'll push it live on Monday with the full change-log.
This build also includes some Quality of Life updates
Work experience is now shown in player info screen
Required clothes for jobs shown in Job Office
To access testing
Right click No Time to Relax in your Steam Library
Choose Properties
Click the Betas tab
Enter the password: notimetorelax into the field there
Press Check Code
This will allow you to choose testing - Testing branch from the dropdown list
You should see [testing] by the name of the game in the library list if you have the right branch selected
Now, the testing branch is not using the same server as the live game so you won't be able to play anyone using the current live version.
It would be super fantastic if you could do us the favor of testing the online part out and telling us if anything goes wrong.
To change back to regular Live branch you just do the same thing as above except choose NONE from the dropdown menu
Hot-fix 0.9.7.2
We got some feedback from our Discord channel that Investments were acting strangely in Marathon Mode. After some investigation we pin-pointed the bug and now it should be fixed. We like to say thanks again to our community for helping us find this bug.
We have been investigation the troubles some people had with Wide Screen monitors. We added a stronger check to set the right resolution for those kind of monitors. Also it should be easier to get to the settings menu if the game is running in some unsupported aspect ratio.
The "Game is Full" bug still exists to some degree :( We unfortunately didn't catch all its cases in last hot-fix. We are currently working hard on a fix for those and other Online game bugs and we will publish an update as soon as it's ready.
Thanks for your patience!
Fixes
Investments in Marathon Mode fixed.
Resolution checks for Wide Screen.
Game works better in obscure aspect ratios.
"Game is full"
We are working on the "Game is Full" bug at this very moment! We are super sorry about it. Please bear with us!
Hotfix 0.9.7.1 (Not April's fool, we swear!)
Hey we have a small hotfix update today that fixes 3 bugs. Big thanks to our community for helping us find these bugs.
Fixes
Money for clothes against CPU: You should only have to wait 1-2 weeks to receive some money for new clothes if you are naked and poor. We finally found the bug that could cause you to have to wait for much much longer when competing against the CPU. So now you can also have kind old aunts. (Special thanks to Simpleton Fox over on our Discord for giving us the clue to finding this bug).
Game is Full: We found the bug that would cause you to get Game is Full message when inviting friends to a private game and fixed it. We are still working hard on squashing all multiplayer bugs.
Score Screen: The score screen could behave in some weird manners if you left it while other players where still there. This should be fixed now. Now you get a pop up telling you that Player X left. We'll redo this in the future.
Until next time!
Thanks and Update 0.9.7 (Marathon Mode!)
First of all we'd like to thank you all for the brilliant and positive feedback we've been getting since launch. It's been super helpful and we hope you continue to work with us to make the game even better than it is right now!
We have a dedicated Discord channel if you want to look for someone to play No Time to Relax with someone or interact with us developers directly (we're a fun bunch, I promise!). Please join it here: https://discord.gg/sjbUTNd
What has probably surprised us the most is the outcry for longer games. We've listened and added the first iteration of the Marathon Game Mode in this update. Please give us any and all feedback you have (here on Steam or in the Discord channel).
New Features
Marathon Mode: This is our first iteration of an even longer game than the current Long game. It’s not week limited and the score required to finish has been increased. It should take around 45-65 weeks to finish a game.
New Weekend Cards: We added 98 new Weekend Event cards (with 33 new illustrations). We’ll continue to add more of these!
Network Heart Beat: We’ve added a network heart beat to online games. Each other player's portrait now has a little green dot that turns red if the player is lagging or temporarily disconnects from the game.
Fixes & Tweaks
Resolution Dialog: We are still trying to make the game appear perfectly on all the different screens in all the lands. We got some reports where players were having problems with the resolution. We are currently working on getting this to work automatically and seamless. Until then we have to following solution:
When launching the game in Steam you can hold down the ALT key. This will launch a window that allows you to choose the game’s resolution before the game launches.
Quitting online games: Quitting an online game could break it for the other players should they want to continue. We fixed this!
Online Sync Issues: There where some sync issues where the game would just stop responding in multiplayer. We added some safety checks and believe we've fixed this issue. We’ll continue to monitor this issue in case it is still a problem.
Job Tweaking: We tweaked the requirements and salaries for some of the jobs. We’ll continue to do so to balance the different buildings.
Money for Clothes: We finally (and hopefully) discovered the bug that was causing players not to receive enough money to buy clothes when they ended up naked with no money. You should only have to wait for one week until you get some money from your aunt.
But now if you don’t spend that money on clothes, you’ll have to wait for another week until you get more money.
Minor Tweaks: A bunch of small things like changing Mr. CPU's color to Turkish.
Upcoming
Network Stability & Polish: While we gather feedback on the new Marathon mode we're going to be working hard on getting Network Games more stable and adding some features. We're going to look into adding the ability to kick unresponsive players.
Marathon Games: We're going to continue to work on getting Marathon games more varied and different.
Known Bugs
Different Game Versions: At the moment we're not sorting out games by the Host's game version. This means players could possibly have different versions of the game. This can and will break the game. We plan to publish a Hot Fix for this as soon as we've have it working correctly.
What's this...?
Update 0.9.6.2 (Hot-Fix)
Just a small hot-fix update
We observed a bug where players could apparently work anywhere. We added a fix that should stop that from happening.
Update 0.9.6.1 (Bug-fix Update 4)
Some people have experienced a bug in Beta version 0.9.5.1 where the Sync Indicator in multiplayer could get stuck over the score screen. We have not been able to replicate the bug at our office. However, we decided to move the Syncing Indicator so it won't block any important data while we keep investigating if the bug still exists.
If you come across this bug in version 0.9.6 or later, please send us detailed information what happened at the end of the game (for example, did any player freeze or drop out of the game).
Fixes
Moved Syncing Indicator
Fixed a bug that could sometimes show the wrong avatar picture on the final winning screen
Update 0.9.6 - Robot and Emojis!
New Features
The Robot: A new in-game character we talked about in last update has been added. It's the default computer character in single player games. Also you can select The Robot as your own Avatar in Multiplayer games!
Emoji Messaging System: In multiplayer games, you can now "talk" to other players with an Emoji system. As of yet, there are 3 emoji types, positive, neutral and negative. We hope you will have fun with the new system :)
Multiplayer Names: Player names have been added to each "Player Widget" in Multiplayer games. This clarifies better where you are in the player queue.
Fixes
Players leaving multiplayer: Sometimes when other players left multiplayer, your own character could get stuck in a frozen state. Now when other players leave, you should be able to keep playing if you want.
Smaller fixes: As always we try to fix little things we find on the way and we do cleanups on the code for future features. With new features and cleanups there are sometimes hidden bugs that a small team like ours miss. Please let us know if you find anything not working correctly ;)
Upcoming
Marathon Mode: People have been asking us both through the Steam Community and emails if we are going to add an Endless Mode to the game. That has always been in our plans but we have still yet to finalize our plans on how it will work. And we would love to get your feedback on how you would like it to work!
Update 0.9.5.1 (Bug-fix Update 3)
We found yet another pesky bug that sometimes made controllers not selecting buttons correctly in menus. It has been fixed!
In other news, we have been working on a new in-game character that will come in next update. Also there is a system in the works for Multiplayer that enables players to message each other while playing the game. Some work has also gone into making the multiplayer more informative. We hope to release this all in next patch.
Else we just hope you all will have a good weekend! :)
Fixes
Selecting buttons in menus with controller sometimes failing.
