Small balance & Bug Fix patch - 1.2.9

Hello Northgardians!

First, we want to thank you for supporting our game and giving that much feedback! The multiplayer aspect of the Northgard Trials made your participation on Steam, Discord and Reddit more valuable than ever!

We just pushed an update for Northgard. Here's what's new:



  • Exotic Goods now only grants +1 per harbor (+2 if upgraded)
  • When launching mercenaries attacks, the amount of looted has been decreased from 80 to 50




  • The colonization speed the Wolf's tech "Conqueror" has been fixed
  • We added navigation arrows in the Player Profile tab
  • We fixed some issue with the friend's invitation feature (this was causing a lot of display issues in the lobby, with empty games, or duplicated games)
  • We fixed a lot of the text & translation issues (both for MP and Story modes)
  • We added 2 new dedicated servers to cope with the new influx of player!


EDIT 28/05/2018 - Patch 1.2.9225



We just pushed a small update that should fix a few things:
  • The Improved Trade Routes tech for the Clan of the Raven has been fixed
  • An issue in the lobby caused some players to get the 15min ban for no reason, this has been fixed
  • In rare cases, victorious players were considered as leavers, this has also been fixed
  • We added another 3 additionnal servers

[Patchnote] Northgard Trials



Welcome to the Northgard Trials!
In this first update since the official release of the game, after overcoming the challenges and dangers of the colonization of Northgard with Rig, Halvard and the others, you’ll have to prove your worthiness and climb the ranks towards every Viking’s ultimate goal: the Rimesteel League!

This update brings into the game a completely new ranking system:

  • In Northgard’s new Multiplayer menu, you now have the possibility to choose to create a “ranked” type of game (for the moment, only on dedicated Servers).
  • Ranked games always have every Victory Conditions enabled.
  • When winning a ranked game, you’ll receive Glory Points (). The amount of you’ll get is based on the rank of the other players in the game. The higher rank your enemies are ranked, better will be the rewards.
  • We added a new Player Ranking page, which allows you to see your current rank and the result history of the last 20 games you’ve played.
  • You’ll start in the Wood league and earning will allow you to reach new leagues:

    • Wood League: 0 to 149
    • Stone League: 150 to 299
    • Iron League: 300 to 449
    • Gold League: 450 to 599
    • Rimesteel League: 600 and more




  • Every league will unlock a new aspect for your Townhalls (for both Single and Multiplayer games).
  • In a Ranked game, a disconnected player will be considered as a leaver if he’s not reconnected before 5 minutes. As a leaver, he will lose the ongoing game (with a penalty) and will not have the possibility to join any Multiplayer game (ranked or not) before 15 minutes.





A lot of you asked for it, so we made it!
Huge maps are now available for Single and Multiplayer games. With larger maps come new game modes:

  • FFA - 8 Players
  • 4v4
  • 2v2v2v2


Disclaimer: The generation for these maps may take a few moments at the beginning of games. Low configuration computers may have some trouble running this type of games (especially in end game).



As you know, we value a LOT the randomness of the map generation in Northgard. However, it seemed a bit unfair to allow the win and the loss of ranked games to depend in a large part on such a huge random factor.

In this update, you’ll have the possibility to choose to have balanced map generation!
Here are a few rules about this map generation:
<*>For the moment, balanced generation is only available for the following game modes:

  • Duel
  • 2v2
  • 3v3
  • 4v4
  • 2v2v2

<*>Balanced generation is built by team (not by player).
<*>Special Tiles and Neutral Factions are the only tiles that aren’t exactly the same in the two sides of the maps (if a team gets Thor’s Wrath, the other may have a Geyser).
<*>Some specific clans will get specific positioning in the map:

  • The clan of the Raven will have the most access to shores
  • The clan of the Bear will have the most access to fish tiles




We changed a few other things in the game. Next patch will add some major changes in the balance of the game. We felt that with the arrival of the Northgard Trials, we should let you apply the strategies you have been practicing in the last few weeks.

Here are the minor changes:

  • Warriors now have a damage bonus against Shield Bearers.
  • We changed the Gold income coming from trading with the Giants
  • Trade victory has been slightly modified:

    • You can now build a Lighthouse event if the Trade Victory isn’t enabled
    • Greater Trade Routes now grant +1, +3 and +6 happiness depending on the level of the route.

Patchnote 1.1 - Happy Easter!

Hello Northgardians!

We’ve been working hard these past few weeks to fix the majority of the bugs you reported! Here is the complete Patch note for this update :-)



  • The ESC key now closes the chat window in priority
  • Trade Route will be stopped before reaching 0 Krowns (to prevent building from burning)
  • We added an effect on ongoing scenarios to help clarity of the campaign map. This should help new players understand their current objective!
  • We balanced a little some of the campaign scenarios:

    • Chapter V: there is now a clear sign showing when reinforcement will arrive
    • Chapter VI: answering one of Svarn’s request now also grants some happiness
    • Chapter IX: there were some text errors

  • We added the Turkish language to the game (sorry for the delay)
  • When entering an area with both an enemy unit and a neutral unit, the player can now kill the neutral unit before killing the enemy unit. This was abusively used by some players.
  • Once you finished a chapter at least once, you will have the possibility to choose to watch the first ingame cinematic





After last patch, the Clan of the Raven became a little unbalanced, thanks to its ability to colonize territories with krowns. We changed a few things about it:

  • We increased the Krown cost of colonisation by 10%
  • The Raven’s Fame 200 now also grant 1 happiness



  • In the Multiplayer game creation menu, we fixed a visual bug that caused the “AI number” line to switch place with the “map Size”
  • It is not possible anymore to upgrade the Gates of Helheim
  • When befriended, the Jotnar (on the Jotunn tile) won’t count as clan’s population
  • Scouts health bar sometimes disappears when scouting, this has been fixed
  • There is now a progress bar for the menders’ healing
  • We fixed a bug allowing trade routes to keep going even after reaching 0 food stock
  • When slaughtered by the Wolf Clan, sheeps will not provide gold anymore with Pillage
  • The Draugar Invasion alert sound has been added
  • Mercenaries in your territory will not count in wood consumption during winter anymore.
  • The “Hanging Out With Friends” achievement is now functional (so sorry for the trouble)
  • We fixed a wording issue with Fur Coats: it affect both civilians and military units
  • We fixed a Camera behavior bug when switching between military group of units
  • We addressed some UI issues
  • We fixed NULL ACCESS errors

The next months will be dedicated to develop a new Multiplayer Ranking System with balanced map generation! A new clan will shortly follow this update ;-)

[Bug Fix] Patchnote 1.0.8796

Hello Northgardians!

Bug Fix



We fixed a few things that caused problems in the v1.0.8772

  • Crashes were fixed
  • Easy mode for Chapters 3 & 11 have been modified
  • French, German, Polish & Portugese translations have been fixed, Spanish & Turkish translation are still to be implemented
  • Games in campaign mode were counting as played game in the "Profile", they aren't anymore
  • Arrows, axes and spears were shot to the sky, it has been fixed
  • We changed a few wording and camera problems in some of the campaign chapters.
  • We fixed the non-functionning campaign achievements. To activate your achieivements, just play and win any other chapter in the difficulty level you did the rest of the campaign!


Other things to know



  • During the dialogues in the campaign's chapter, the game is paused, you can take your time to read everything, your units will not keep fighting ;-)
  • The MacOS version is now live and functionnal! If you encounter any issue on this version, pease report it in the dedicated thread :

  • The Linux version of Northgard is yet to be optimized, and should be working soon on the majority of Linux Distributions. If your distribution is not compatible, an error message will warn you and give you the name of the libraries you'll need to download in order to make the game work properly! NORTHGARD OFFICIAL RELEASE - RIG'S SAGA IS OUT

Hello Northgardians!

We’re so proud to finally officially release Northgard to you!! :)

Before jumping into the patch note, we really wanted to thank all of you for supporting our game during this Early Access year! It’s been quite a ride :)



This major update is without a doubt the one we put the most work in. You’ll of course be able to enjoy the full version of Rig’s Saga. We also worked a lot on a new feature for our combat system, and we added A LOT of cool new things :)


As we reached the 20k users registered to our Rig’s Saga Beta, we knew that we had to deliver a very qualitative and fun to play campaign mode. We work very hard on these 11 chapters. I strongly recommend you to play the first chapter again, as we added new cool things (including Achievements, Easy and Hard mode, dynamic in and out game cinematics).

A few more things for you to know:

  • For each difficulty levels, completing the campaign will unlock specific Steam achievements
  • Completing every additional objectives for each chapter will also unlock Steam achievements
  • When having completed every chapter in Hard difficulty and having obtained every additional object, you unlock something quite special for your solo and multiplayer games ;)

Mac & linux versions of Northgard



You asked for it, so we did it!
Northgard's Mac & linux versions will be released tomorrow, March, 8th :)

New Features - Solo & Multi player



Supply Penalty:

We know there has been some issue with rush tactics. So we decided to add to the current combat system a “distance to home” dynamic. Military units will have their attack power decreased depending on the distance their are from allied territory:
1 Tile: -0%
2 Tiles: -5%
3 Tiles: -15%
4 Tiles and more: -30%
Please note that this rule will not affect mercenaries’ attack power and will not be implemented in the campaign scenarios.



Other changes:

  • AI behavior has been modified: its aggressiveness will be scaled on how close you are to victory
  • Silos now can only be built on tiles where a generating buildings are built. They now only improve food production of Fishermen, Hunters and Farmers
  • Feasts now grant:
    • 20% production bonus for healers with Medecine
    • 20% production bonus for Menders and Sailors
    • 20% production bonus for Skalds and Sailors

  • Tool upgrades now grant
    • +15% production for Skalds
    • +15% production for Menders
    • +15% / production for Sailors (depending on your choosing)
    • +15% production for Healers

  • We changed the way villagers react to an attack in their tile:
    • Villagers who are building in a tile under attack will now run to defend the tile
    • Exception: villagers building towers will keep building!

  • You can now cancel the launch of a Mercenary raid by pressing the ESC button
  • The units of a defeated player will instantly be killed if they are situated in another player’s tile (ally and enemy)
  • You can now access the patch notes from the landing screen of the game
  • You can now travel to a healed unit by double clicking on their portrait
  • When decolonizing a TownHall tile, every member of your team will now earn some
  • We added many alert boxes regarding the players’ progression towards victory in multiplayer games:
    • Reaching 800 and 1000
    • Colonizing the Relic of Gods
    • Colonizing Helheim
    • Reaching 500, 1000, 1500
    • Colonizing the Magma Lake tile
    • When forging each of the Odin’s Sword peices

  • We added 8 new achievements related to Solo/Multiplayer games
  • We changed the way diseases work (again...)
  • We added more shortcuts, with the possibility to remap them. Here is the list of the functionalities:
    • Change minimap type, from ressources to military (T)
    • Select inactive clan member (U)
    • Select all villagers (G)
    • Select all scouts (H)
    • We added another mapping system for Bear clan. Select the Warband (E) and click (E) again to exclude Kajia
    • Affect only one unit (Ctrl (Hold))
    • Cycle through selection (Tab)




New Features - Multiplayer only


  • You can know choose to play on dedicated servers or to host games - this has been added after many Australian players (among other) encountered lag issues, sorry guys!
  • We added a profanity filter on Multiplayer games
  • In the lobby, you cannot choose a team if it is already full


Cosmetic changes:



  • We added lightning during bad weather
  • We added trails for combat units movement. This adds a lot of clarity (and coolness) to fights!
  • We improved the FX of the Draugar Portals and Wyvern attacks
  • You can now choose between 7 different environment when creating a Solo or Multiplayer game



Clan Balancing


  • Clan of the Wolf:
    • Pillage now also works on ally territory
    • Plunder healing effectiveness has been reduced (from 50% to 35%)

  • Clan of the Boar
    • Handiwork effectiveness has been increased from 10% to 15% for non-upgraded buildings
    • Lay of the Land now reduces the chance of being attacked by neutral units by 90% (previously 30%)
    • The Mender's Hut cost has been lowered from 60 to 50 and its Krown upgrade cost has been lowered from 50 to 25

  • Clan of the Stag: Advanced Silo bonus went from +2 and +5 (when upgraded) to +2 and +4
  • Clan of the Goat: You only get one sheep at the beginning of the game. However, at least one other sheep will ALWAYS be in an adjacent tile
  • Axe Throwers attack power has been slightly decreased (-5%)



As usual, we fixed many bugs:
  • Life bars of longships docks and harbors are now correctfully placed
  • Victory bars are now more logically scaled
  • We fixed an issue where sailors would spawn in the water once a player has lost its Town Hall
  • We fixed many visual problems with the Wyvern animations
  • We fixed a problem in the way the description of certain building was displayed
  • It was possible to walk through the Altar of Kings, this has been fixed
  • It it now possible to heal Vedrfolnir when given by an ally
  • We fixed a visual bug on the farmer’s food gathering animation
  • We fixed some issues with the tile transfer:
    • Towers will now have the right color
    • The notification “building not built” and “building empty” will now disappear

  • When launching mercenaries on Fields Tiles, you’ll get the right amount of
  • When targeting a tower, military units will not walk through rocks and lakes anymore
  • The miner’s upgrade tool now gives 15% more Stones
  • We fixed A LOT of “No Entrance”, “Null Access” and “EOM” bugs



The roadmap after the release



As we already mentionned, Northgard's development will not stop with this official release! We plan on working on the game much much longer, adding many gameplay features, game modes, and general content.

Between these MASSIVE updates, we'll keep improving the game, in terms of bugs, system compatibility and balancing.

In a few weeks, a balancing patch will be released to adjust the clans' specificities after the modifications of today's launch. Following this, we intend to work on a more complete multiplayer patch.

With each of the major updates, we plan on releasing new clans to add to the diversity of the game.

The last year has been quite a ride for us! Northgard's concept seduced way more people than we anticipated at first, and you, as a group of players passionnate about Strategy games, pushed us to deliver the best game we could. We could not have dreamt of a more helpful and dedicated community and it's clear that Northgard could not have been as complete as it is today without you!

Campaign Mode Trailer - Rig's Saga & Official Launch
