PATCHNOTE #20 - CAMPAIGN BETA

Hello Northgardians!

Today, we’re incredibly proud to introduce you to the first part of our Campaign mode!


CAMPAIGN MODE - RIG’S SAGA



The first five chapters of Rig’s Saga are now available for you to test! As for the servers, you have the possibility to fill out a form, giving you access to a “campaign-beta” version of Northgard.

This BETA will grant you access to the first Act of our campaign! You’ll be following Rig, son of the Vikings’ High King. The High King is murdered and his REGAL HORN is stolen by a man named HAGEN.This event kickstarts a saga that will take RIG and his right-hand man BRAND through the new continent of NORTHGARD, where he will make new friends and foes and discover a much greater threat than HAGEN, and the reasons behind his father’s assassination.

You can now fill out this form, and at the end of it, you’ll get the code to access the BETA!

At the end of the form, you will get a campaign-beta code, that will allow you to test the beginning of our Campaign :)
Once you get your code:
1- Right click on Northgard on your Steam library
2- Click on Properties
3- Open the BETA tab
4- Enter the code you received and choose "campaign-beta" in the drop-down menu
5- Wait for the Download of the update (you may have to restart Steam)
6- Start Northgard and enjoy the Bgining of Rig's Journey :-)

DEDICATED SERVERS



The dedicated servers are now officially launched (they are now available on the "default" and the "campaign-beta" version)! The Beta we launched two weeks ago allowed us to identify and fix the large majority of bugs that were reported! This is all thanks to you! We had more than 4 000 participants to this BETA :D
=> As always, you’re the best ;-)



Disclaimer: We currently have 8 servers at our disposition, each of them can host a few dozen Northgard games at the same time (more or less depending on the number of players in those games).
As we carefully monitor the servers activity, we’ll be able to add more servers in case we are going under capacity. If the servers become too crowded despite that, you’ll automatically switch to the original host system as a backup!


UPDATE CHANGELOG



As always, we’re always trying to make the game better for you, and we changed a few things in this update too! This is available on the default version of the game!

  • Townhalls now harbor 6 villagers, increasing the maximum population when starting a game by 1.
  • Happiness is now display with different colors and texts if you’re over or under 3 .
  • When going for Trade Victory, you’ll get the amount of Commercial Influence displayed in your resource bar .
  • When trading with other player/AI, information about this whos is trading what with whom is now displayed next to their name.
  • When one of your ally is attacked, the Warning pop-up will now display “Your ally is under attack”.
  • When a Raven Clan launches a mercenary raid, every player having scouted the targeted area will now be warned of the launch of this raid.
  • We added Polish language translation (not for the campaign). Other languages will come for the official release.

Hello Northgardians!

We have exciting news to share with you :^)

DEDICATED SERVERS



We’ve reach the final stage of the implementation of our dedicated servers. During the latest tests we made, they seem to behave quite well.
The next phase is to perform some stress tests, and to do this, we need you!



If you wish to enter the open BETA for the servers, just follow this link and fill in the very little form we prepared for you.

At the end of the form, you will get a BETA-Servers code, that will allow you to play on our brand new servers :)
Once you get your code:
1- Right click on Northgard on your Steam library
2- Click on Properties
3- Open the BETA tab
4- Enter the code you received and choose "open-beta" in the drop-down menu
5- Wait for the Download of the update (you may have to restart Steam)
6- Start Northgard and enjoy the Servers :-)

PATCH NOTE



We also changed a few things in the game (which are also available on the default version):


  • Tile transfer will appear normally in the end screen summary
  • We fixed a bug that caused Draugar portals and many other things to remain visible in the end screen summary
  • Clan members won't start healing before they transform into healers anymore.
  • We fixed a visual bug sometime occuring with the lighthouse
  • We fixed a bug in the Fishermen’s animation
  • We fixed a bug in the skin of the Warchief when summoned for the second time
  • You can now train a clan member to become a Sailor even if the boat is at sea!
  • The exclusive mode will now work properly for two monitors users
  • The cooldown of Domination (Wolf Clan’s fame 500) has been reduced from 12 to 9 months
  • Left click on a unit's portrait will now select the closest unit to the camera
  • We fixed many Null Access errors


PRICING



As we planned when starting the Early Access period, we will be raising Northgard price on Steam from 19,99€ to 27,99€ starting this Friday January 19th. Be sure that there will not be further price raise when the game is officially released! We are also planning to release a Deluxe version of the game, including the Development Artbook and the complete OST!

ShiroGames - Bye bye 2017 and WELCOME 2018 !!!

Hello Northgardians,

As the end of 2017 is upon us, we wanted to share with you a few thoughts.

What a year! At the beginning of 2017, Northgard was about to start its 6-months Early Access period. At the time, the game was supposed to be a fun, solo strategy game with 4 clans and ShiroGames was only a team of 9. It soon became clear that the game would be much more than that. To match the new ambitions of our little Vikings, the Early Access period has been doubled, and the team grew.
Today, after 10 months and almost 500k unit sold, Northgard has 6 clans, a Multiplayer mode with dedicated server coming in January and a lot of new tiles, units and buildings. The 15 person team now gets ready for the official launch of its baby. In January, we’ll launch the dedicated servers, and we’ll open access to the test version of the campaign! We cannot wait to have your feedback on these, as we worked hard to make them as enjoyable as possible!

One thing we know for sure, is how much we owe you, our beloved community. You helped Northgard become what it is now in countless different ways and we cannot thank you enough for your support and your feedback.

We’re so proud of the way the game has evolved, with its own personality, and you’ve been a key part of this!

So thank you and enjoy a wonderful 2018!


PATCH NOTE #18 - December Update

Hello Northgardians!

We're sorry to announce a little delay in the arrival of dedicated servers in Northgard...

Dedicated Servers

We've had some partnership issues that forced us to postpone the release of this crucial feature to January. We absolutely understand your frustration regarding the problems that poor internet connection and leaving hosts can generate.

Please be sure that our decision on this matter is only motivated by the urge to give you the best multiplayer experience. We'll spend this time to set up an infrastructure that will allow us to have a very large number of Northgard instances running at the same time.

December Update



This problem will not prevent us from delivering you your monthly update :-)

Changes on Tech Trees:



For all clans:

  • We’ve merge Militia & Defense, giving Defense Strategy: +20% Attack for Villagers & +20% defense for Watch Towers
  • Feeling Safe has been moved and is now replaced by MonsterSlayer: +30% attack power against Mystical Creatures - Draugar, Valkyries, Giants, Giant Hero (Blainn), Wyvern.
  • Sharp Weapons has been replaced by Military Strategy: Military units gains +5% attack for each type of friendly military units in the area.
  • Trading (or Bartering) is now necessary to build a Lighthouse
  • Erudition buff for Loremaster is now by 20% (previously 10%)




Clan of the Goat:
  • Barricade’s bonus now goes from 30% to 20%
  • Food Trade: Trading food increases your trading routes' income by 50% (previously 100%)


Clan of the Bear:
Shield Master’s bonus goes from 20% resistance to 15% and the tech changes place

Clan of the Raven:
Fame 200 now grants +3 Villagers and +3 Max Population

Clan of the Boar:

  • The menders now grant +1 Lore instead of +2
  • Bartering now grants:

    • +1 Krowns per 8 population (rounded down)
    • The ability to trade with Neutrals
    • Unlocks the Lighthouse (see the Trade Victory Section)

  • Handiwork takes the place of Nature Gift (which has disappeared)
  • Handiwork has been replaced by Lay of the Land: -30% chance of being attacked by Wolves, Draugar or Valkyries




Clan of the Wolf:
  • Cartography has been removed (very low pick rate) and replaced by Plunder: When decolonizing a tile, the units in this tile are healed by +50% of their max health
  • Pillage is now called Spoils of War

We're so glad to see that you adopted the Clan of the Boar!
We know you cannot wait for new stuff coming to Northgard ;)



As the official release approaches, it seemed important to give you an overview of what's coming in the game for the last phase of Early Access!

Until multiplayer patch



We've identified a few problems and bugs with the current version of the game, and we're working on solving these :)

Multiplayer Patch - December



This update will introduce something that many of you asked: Dedicated servers.
Those servers will hopefully grant you more stable and less laggy games, solving the issues of hosts disconnecting!

We'll add many more things to make the experience more fun and intuitive:
- The possibility to choose a different difficulty for Northgard (as the environment) and for each AI individually
- The possibility to kick someone from the lobby (he won't be able to join again)
- The players leaving a game will be replaced by an AI
- The AI will have a more human behavior

In this patch we plan to entirely revisit the Trade Victory, more information about it will soon come.
We'll also add some other smaller things that were missing in the game.

First Campaign update - January 2018



We'll unveal the first 4 chapters of the campaign in the beginning of 2018.
This campaign will tell a story about a young Viking Warchief and his quest for colonizing Northgard!
The player will meet each clan one after the other, interact with them (not all of them have good intentions ;) )

Some changes to the UI and Key Binding will also be implemented at this time.

The end of Early Access Period



We intend to fully release Northgard in Februray-March 2018 (this is an objective, not a certainty ^^).
The period of time between the January update and the official release will be dedicated on solving every little problem that we identify!

Northgard after its official release



The official launch of the game will not mean the end of new features addition, and we're looking into adding new clans, gameplay mechanics, etc...

PATCH NOTE #17 - v0.3.6656 - Clan of the Boar

Hello Northgardians!

A new clan will be released tomorrow: The Clan of the Boar!



PRESENTATION OF THE BOAR



A reclusive clan once forgotten by their brethren but recently rediscovered, the Clan of the Boar is both mystical and untamed. Their understanding of the world is unmatched, as are their boorish and primitive ways.



Starting bonuses

  • The Mender's Hut replaces the Healer's Hut. Menders produce +2 Lore while they're not healing.
  • Under The Stars: Each additional tile gives +2 max population.
  • No happiness penalties for non-upgraded houses.

Heritage (200 Fame points)

1 Free Lore (does not count towards Lore victory or Blessing unlock)

Greater Blessings (500 Fame points)

Blessings have upgraded effects:

  • Freya: Blizzard penalty reduction: 30% => 50%.
  • Baldr: happiness +3 => +5
  • Jörd: Warchief and upgraded towers get +10% att



Lore tree changes

  • Trading => Bartering: +3 Krowns, Allows trading routes with neutral factions (not other clans)
  • Mining efficiency => Handiwork: +10% production for non upgraded buildings
  • Coinage => Simple living: -50% wood construction costs for buildings
  • Medecine => Herbalism: Each active Mender give +5% production in the Mender’s Hut Territory
  • Carpentry Mastery => Nature’s Gift: +1 Krowns each 5 clan members
  • Growth knowledge => Legacy: Altar of Kings production is doubled
  • Wealth knowledge => Osmosis: Forests, Swamps & Fishes gives +2 happiness

NEW FEATURES




  • Vedrfolnir now has a different description text once he’s healed
  • As Vedrfolnir crashed after being wounded, there is now a mark on the ground (may need some work)
  • Vedrfolnir cannot spawn on Magma Flows tiles
  • There is now a healing icon above the health bar of the healed clan member
  • ONE NEW MUSIC TRACK! :D
  • Many new sound FX (victory and loss of a game, ally trading with you, feasting, etc…)
  • A new special effect for the warrior's charge
  • Non upgraded silos now grant a +300 max food stock. Upgrading them will raise this to 500.


BUG FIXING



We corrected some issues in the game, here is the list:


  • Fixed a bug in the way bonuses granted by upgraded silos were calculated
  • Fixed an issue with the way the game calculated winter food consumption (depending on the size of the clan population)
  • The Altar of King bonuses weren't always displayed
  • Forests had a chance not to be occupied by wolves
  • The mining exploit has been fixed: it is not possible to extend indefinitely the stone and iron reserves in a mine
  • When reaching 0 in a traded ressource, the trade route just stops
  • A lot of "NULL ACCESS" and "CALLED FROM" errors have been fixed

A new clan will be released tomorrow: The Clan of the Boar!



Presentation

BUG FIX - Patch 0.3.6414

Hey Northgardians!

We fixed a few things that troubled some of you, please update your game to get the latest patch ;-)

BUG FIXES



  • The AI won't trigger the achievements anymore
  • The healers are now more reactive when switching from food gathering to healing (with Medecine).
  • The issue of units stuck between trees or rocks has been fixed.
  • We corrected the majority of the "NULL ACCESS" errors we observed.
  • The cost gap when hiring warriors one by one and as a group has been fixed.
  • We optimized the bandwidth of Multiplayer games (with a 30% impovement). Your online games should be more fluid now =)


PATCH NOTE #16 - v0.3.6363

Hello Northgardians!

This month, we added many things to the game! Here is the list of the modifications!

New content:



Vedrfolnir, the mystical hawk



This spectacular creature has been harmed by Draugar and you might find him, hurting somewhere around Northgard. Once you heal him to full health, Vedrfolnir will rise and you’ll earn 100 Lore.

Once healed, he’ll wander around Northgard for a whole year and will discover 6 new areas for your clan!

New neutral faction: The Kobolds



They occupy several tiles in the map that may have precious resources. If you player want to get these resources you'll have to wipe their camp. But doing so, you'll lose the ability to trade with the Kobolds. Be cautious: they are pretty generous allies but very resentful enemies.

New tile: Thor’s Wrath



Control the Thor’s Wrath tile and become a follower of the hammer-wielding god of thunder! Colonizing this tile will grant you 50 Fame and 5% factionwide bonus attack power.

New tile: Lake



The new lake tile always has fish and the Bear Clan have great chances to have one near their town hall. The cost of the Fisherman's hut has been reduced from 60 to 40 wood.

New tile: the Geyser



Your clan can now relax around this nice hot water source. Colonizing a Geyser tile will grant the player +1 in happiness and will reduce wood consumption during winter by 10%.

Other additions



  • You are now notified whenever your units enter a fight (if you didn’t initiate the fight)
  • You can now choose the target of your healers in the healer's hut
  • Disease modification: a sick unit now loses 50% of its max HP and then stops being sick.
  • Rat infestation now gets some of your units sick (how many depends on your population).
  • When your population is starving or freezing, buying food or wood while keeping your food or wood production below 0 won’t reset your starvation/freezing status anymore. Having a positive stock of resources will reduce slowly the number of starving/frozen units. Having a positive production rate will reset the starvation/freezing status.


Lore changes



  • Industrious: Only food generating building now can have an extra worker when upgraded
  • Carpentry masteries : down from 30% to 20% upgrade cost reduction
  • Goat Amenities has been moved. It now replaces ShipBuilding (formerly replaced Medecine).

PATCH NOTE #15 - Combat update - v0.2.6084

Hello Northgardians!

Here are the modifications we made to the game! You'll see the combat system has changed a lot and we truly think it is for the best :)


Combat Update





General units modifications

  • When entering an area, there is now a 0.8 seconds cooldown before being able to attack, this will prevent tile dancing.
  • You can now see every unit in a multiple unit selection, with their individual life bar
  • In this group panel, you can select all the units from a specific type by CTRL+click on one of the units
  • When fighting, the military units now have color circles beneath them to increase fight clarity
  • Redesign of the unit life-bars (with clan color)
  • There are now 3 different stats for each units (before patch, Health & Resistance were combined in one stat):

    • Attack
    • Health
    • Resistance





Upgrade changes

  • Upgrading the Traning Camp, the Shield Bearer Camp and the Axe Thrower Camp now grants a boost in attack (10%) instead of defense
  • Upgrading the WatchTower will increase its health by 75% (50% before the patch) and its attack power by 75% (0% before the patch). In addition, the towers won't start burning when being hit until their health goes under 80%!
  • The AI now upgrades its units tools
  • In the tool upgrade tab, you'll get the possibility to upgrade your villagers, increasing their building & repair speed by 15%, but they won't gather more food.
  • In the tool upgrade tab, military units now have brand new abilities that will cost 50 of Krowns and 10 of Iron:

    • When upgrading the Warriors, he will gain 15% attack power and a charging ability. This ability will allow them to sprint towards their enemies.
    • When upgrading the Shield Bearers, their protection against ranged attack is doubled, and their resistance increased by 20%
    • When upgrading the Axe Throwers, they will gain 30% in range and attack power
    • Note that the Goat clan won't be able to upgrade its military units with its free tools





Military units modifications

  • The respawn cooldown for all WarChiefs (including Kaija, the Armored Bear) has been raised from 1 to 3 months.
  • The Berserker Heath has been reduced by 30% and its Defense has been increased by 30%. This won’t change anything in the balance of the game, the modification only objective is to make the code smoother :)
  • The Shieldmaiden’s defense had been increased by 7%
  • Kaija, the Armored Bear’s defense has been raised by 5% and its Health by 7%. In addition, in addition its cost is now 75 food (and yes, she has a name now).
  • The Axe throwers base attack is reduced by 15% and their base range is reduced by 30%
  • The ShiedBearer’s arrow resistance ability is reduced from 50% to 20%
  • The Mercenaries have been modified:

    • Sending them now costs 200 Krowns
    • Their attack has been increased by 10%
    • Their defense has been reduced by 55%
    • Sending mercenaries will now summon 4 units (3 before patch)





PVE units modifications

  • The Wolf attack has been raised by 15%
  • The Bear defense has been increased by 20% and its Health by 7%
  • BIG CHANGES on Draugrs:

    • Their health has been raised by 20%
    • There are now 3 different types of Draugr:

      • The melee draugr
      • The Spear Thrower Draugr ⇒ launches spears
      • The Shield Draugr ⇒ has a 20% resistance against AxeThrowers and Towers Arrows


  • The Valkyries are much more stronger now:
  • Their attack has been raised by 25%
  • Their Defense has been raised by 33%
  • Their Health has been increased by 15%
  • To counter balance this modification, we changed a few things about Helheim:

    • Valkyries base number is changed from 5 to 4
    • Valkyries spawn rate has been divided by 2



Other modifications






  • The wood production bonus provided by a forest drops from 20% to 10%
  • The lore production bonus provided by the Circle of Lorestone drops from 20% to 10%
  • Killing the Wyvern now grants 250 fame to every ally in the team
  • Young & Proud and Gear Upgrade now have a more accurate description
  • It is now possible to upgrade a tool if the building of the unit is built, even there are no units.
  • Better repartition of resources surrounding landing site
  • Tiles containing Stone and Iron mines surrounding the player’s landing site will be less difficult to colonize (no bear or draugr to defend them)
  • Players in MP games now won’t have more than 2 Pauses available, after 30 seconds, any player can unpause the game
  • Scouts are not allowed to scout enemy territory (another player or AI) unless the scout camp is upgraded
  • The AI will now progress more slowly in the beginning of games but it will be more efficient in late game.


Bug fixing



  • Two player should not be able to spawn next to one another
  • The repair of a WatchTower stops when it is attacked (but not when enemy units enter the area
  • The Achievements issues should now be fixed!
  • The wolves won't randomly change target


In conclusion



We really hope you'll enjoy those changes, we truly think they will help balancing the game.
Regarding the upcoming updates, we're working hard on a major Multiplayer update, as we really want Northgard to be a stable MP game! However, we won't be able to guarantee that it will come next month (but we hope so).
