Bug Fixes



  • Fixed case where projections from attacking monsters like Loombirds were not properly registering
  • Summon Nestling can now be used in the final dungeons
  • When a Drifter is Ensnared, projection no longer shows it will attack
  • Potions entirely negated by negative clarity now still allow "+2 health gain from potions" to work
  • Vine Grip behaviour matches its description
  • Fixes for missing map tooltip values in certain situations

  • Buckler: Increased Defense 1 -> 2, Clarity 1 -> 2

Build notes 1.2.02 - Balance patch

Difficulty tuning patch



We'll continue to adjust the game as we add more content and features.
Hard mode is significantly more difficult than Normal mode, but we've tuned mid and late game areas with this update for more consistency, and to give you more access to loot.

It's still very important to save and manage souls in Hard mode. Buying all chests will mean you're unable to afford higher tier loot and scale your build, which is crucial for survival, and planning multiple turns ahead to maximise your resources and use the dungeon against itself.

Hard mode balance:

  • Removed Fire Breed from depth 9.
  • Slight increase to Poisonbead and Firebead spawn rate in middle levels for more environmental damage.
  • Increased Chest/Corpse quality in depths before most shops. If you can't afford a chest you may still be able to buy a shop item.
  • Ravaged room can appear slightly earlier.
  • Made lower tier monsters spawn slightly later as well for more soul farming.


Item balance:
Dark Pants: Added 5% Crit Chance.

Lunar New Year Update

A New Year and a new content update!
Our little team's been working hard on new content based on your feedback.



New community requested features:


Key mapping.
Keyboard support for playing with mouse only, keyboard + mouse, and keyboard only.
Fast mode setting to speed up card positioning.
Hovering distant creature cards now inspects them (you can disable this in settings).
Setting option to darken the Shadow room background.
Setting option to confirm before exiting a dungeon.



Separating difficulty selection from Light items


We've unlinked Candles from specific difficulties. This means you can play any difficulty with any Light item. It also means we can treat Light items as a sort of game mode selection. We can add more of them and you can play in the way you prefer.



New items


2 new Light items to unlock: Inverted Candle and Lantern of the Ox.
5+ new bridging items to help more risky early game builds survive long enough to collect synergies... and a new year Legendary weapon: Metal Ox.

Plus more bug fixing and improvements!

Build notes 1.2.0

Features



  • Updated the game mode selection UI to be separated into two parts: Light Item and Difficulty. Now you can play each Light item on either difficulty.

Ring of Pain Roadmap - Feb 2021



Hi everyone!
Here's an update on what we're working on now, and what to expect in coming months. We've got some great content coming, some of which we're starting to put in the PC Beta.

Lunar New Year Update


Coming Feb 11th!



Soon we're releasing a chunk of improvements and some themed content for Lunar New Year.

This will include a handful of items, quality of life features, and the separation of difficulty from the Light item selection. This is a step towards adding more gameplay variety through starting items (eg. Candle, Double Candle, Dark Stone), and will allow us to design Light items in a way that's like choosing a character class.

More details will be available when we launch that next week!


The Shadow Update


Coming April/May...



After Lunar New Year we're working on a major update that focusses on adding more game content including items, special dungeons, creatures... Along with a rework of Light Damage into Petrify - a status effect which reduces max health, as well as Gameplay Statistics so you can track your accomplishments.

We're busy working on more features, and as we approach this update we'll share more news on specifics.

Features



  • Input Mapping + Keyboard Support
    There are two types of keyboard/mouse support:

    • Mouse + Keyboard (Default)
      This allows you to play the game normally with the mouse, with buttons on the keyboard acting as shortcuts to common actions. e.g. Use Spellbook or Pass Left
    • Keyboard
      This allows you to use the keyboard as a controller. The UI will change accordingly as if you are using a controller and will allow you to use controller specific modes such as Inspect and Observe. Additionally controller prompts will appear mapped to the keys you have mapped.

    You can now remap key bindings, please note that there are some conditions:

    • Mouse + Keyboard
      You can map shortcuts to keyboard or mice buttons (excluding LMB and ESC)
    • Keyboard
      You can map controller actions to the keyboard (excluding ESC)
    • Controller
      You can map a limited set of actions to the controller (excluding D-Pad, Left-Stick, Right-Stick, Start)
      Controller maps are saved to the type of controller, this is because you can map buttons to the DualShock 4's touch pad for example

Happy New Year!
We're back from our break and working on more content for Ring of Pain!
Beginning with one of our regular quality of life and bugfix updates. We'll have more info to share on upcoming content in the near future, and are excited to share what we're working on.



Features


Added a feature to partially restore corrupted save files on Steam.
If your game has lost progress or had a save file corrupted: press F5 on the Settings page to access the feature.

Bug Fixes



  • Heat Shield does not activate when using Barrier
  • Mimic Friend now moves new Stat cards to the front as well
  • Fixed soul projection on Dummy when using Soul Cannon
  • Projections consider guaranteed critical hits when dealing a killing blow
  • Projection correctly updates after casting or cancelling spells
  • Knockback projection functions correctly when knocking creatures into walls
  • Scroungers do not escape through exits if ensnared
  • Spineback's animation is paused when it is frozen
  • Killing creatures with status effects (eg. poison) now counts towards achievements
    Previously the system had no knowledge on what created status effects on creatures and the player


Improvements



  • Right clicking creatures will inspect them
  • Fire Breed spawns Firebeads next to them instead of to a random location. Previously, spawning Firebeads to a random location was confusing - it wasn't communicated well enough and could seem like they appeared from nowhere. This change should help players identify and hunt Fire Breeds.
  • Shuffle always moves front cards away from front card positions
    (As long as there are more than 3 cards in the level)
