Features



  • Added a feature to partially restore corrupted save files
    When launching the game via Steam, press F5 on the settings page to partially restore a corrupted save file


Improvements



  • Right clicking creatures will inspect them
  • Fire Breed spawns Firebeads behind them instead of to a random location
  • Shuffle always moves front cards away from front card positions
    As long as there's more than 3 cards in the level

  • Heat Shield does not activate when using Barrier
  • Fixed an issue with equipping Flame Eater
  • Mimic Friend moves Stats to the front
  • Weaken now affects both front cards
  • Shadowstrike's description has been fixed
  • Fixed soul projection on Dummy when using Soul Cannon
  • Projections consider guaranteed critical hits when dealing a killing blow
  • Projection correctly updates after casting or cancelling spells
  • Knockback projection functions correctly when knocking creatures into walls
  • Scroungers do not escape through exits if ensnared
  • Spineback's animation is paused when it is frozen
  • Killing creatures with status effects now counts towards achievements
    Previously the system had no knowledge on what created status effects on creatures and the player


Other



  • Sam no longer gives you a gift if you pat a frog or dog

A Hard Carry unlockable


There's now something special behind one of the hardest achievements in the game...

Previewing Stat Boosts


One of the main requests we've heard is players want a way to get out of a Stat Boost choice they don't want.

To solve with this we've added a preview of which 3 stats you'll choose from if clicking the Stat Boost.




Stat Boosts and strategy


With choosable Stat Boosts, thinking about how to manage stats is much more important!

Rather than having an (on average) more balanced build from random stats, players have the ability to min-max. Learning how to choose stats for your builds may take time to get used to.

More control over outcomes also means more strategy is required, so it may feel more difficult at first.

  • Cursed Potions will cure poison even when cursing
  • Adjusted loot and spawning for Hard Mode
  • Adjusted loot for side paths. These rooms will now often spawn paid chests instead of raw loot
  • Adjusted loot density in side paths
  • Adjusted rarity curves to make legendary spawns appear later
  • Chest spawn rate adjustments
  • Legendary chest cost increase 140 → 160. Reroll cost increased 15 → 20
  • Heat Shield: Reduced number of uses from 5 → 3
  • Crown of Clarity: Now +3 Health and -8 Clarity. This will assist in synergising with curse builds.
  • Fur Coat: Defense 2 → 4, Speed 5 → 4, Health 5 → 4
  • Giant's Wrap: Spell cast cooldown increased 2 → 3, Speed -3 → -1, Clarity 5 → 3
  • Generosity: Clarity removed, Health +2, Defense 3 → 2
  • Create Exit: Creates Shrines in Special Rooms, and Crossroads elsewhere

  • Two Shackles no longer spawn at the front of the ring
  • Added 50 and 100 frame rate limit options
  • General performance and memory improvements
  • Wishing Well displays the information of the charm you will absorb
  • Improved freeze consistency. Freeze is removed after all attack effects.
  • Added Cure Poison projection. This will appear when hovering over actions that will cure the player, such as drinking a potion, exiting through a door, or using the Cure Spellbook
  • Rework to soul damage, so it's calculated as a damage addition per creature instead of per Soul
  • Versatile activates on equip rather than activating when the players stat changes
  • Replaced the Vulnerable creature intention with Stunned
  • Added environment art for Embracing Chaos room

The Specialist Update

The Specialist Update is here!



As we introduce new features, our long term goal is to make the game more strategic and create more versatile play styles. They're also a step towards the new game mode we're working on.

Giving players more agency over the game means the difficulty may change as we tune it, and if players have more ways to master the game it provides a path for us to create more hardcore, challenging content in the future!

This update includes a very important feature:



Choosable Stat Boosts



There are now multiple types of Stat Boosts with different effects!
These also give you a choice between 1 of 3 stats to gain, to help you balance your build the way you want!

New Stat Boost types are:


Basic - Choose 1 of 3 primary Stats to increase
Compromise - Choose 1 of 3 primary Stat to increase, -1 to the other 2 choices
Specialised - Choose 1 of 3 primary Stat to increase a lot, -1 to all other stats

The Basic type can also appear as a Cursed Stat Boost.



15+ New items


As we continue adding content we're aiming to keep filling out areas which need more variety, as well as adding more synergies to make existing items more useful! This is a long term goal for us, though we're excited to share our first batch of new items.

These includes the beginning of spell cast synergies, more versatile Stalker set cards and a special frog-related treat...
We won't spoil too much, so you can discover the new items yourself.

10+ New achievements


Over time we'll be adding a mix of Achievements for you to naturally unlock over the course of playing Ring of Pain, as well as more specific challenges which require extra thought.
