Patch Notes v1.44 (Tournaments Update Hotfix)

Bug Fixes

General

  • Fixed an issue that caused stuttering in the game client when secure TCP sockets are closed down
  • Fixed an issue where Boost visual FX would (rarely) not activate correctly
  • Fixed Alpha Reward Boost appearing differently than it did before the Tournaments Update
  • Connection Quality Indicators will no longer incorrectly persist into Offline Matches or Training
  • Various wheels will no longer appear smaller than they did before the Tournaments update
  • Scoreboard
    • Fixed incorrect avatars showing for players who have joined the game in-progress and/or replaced an AI bot
    • Fixed other players appearing to have the same rank as you in the post-game screen in Competitive matches
  • Trading
    • Fixed players being unable to remove items from a full Trade Window
    • Fixed trades failing if they contained Painted or Certified items currently equipped in a Preset
  • Common Items will no longer show as Trade Held or Untradeable in the Garage
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the game client to only send 30 frames of input per second even if the game was running at 60+
  • [Steam] HTML tags will no longer affect player names

Audio

  • Extended the range at which the volume of other cars drops off to make them more audible from further away
  • Rebalanced overall audio mix based on feedback

Controller Vibration

  • Increased the intensity of “Medium” and “Heavy” Controller Vibration
  • Wireless Xbox 360 controllers will now vibrate while boosting
    • We recommend that Xbox 360 Controller users opt for “Heavy” if they want consistent vibration while boosting

Network Settings

  • Server Send Rate, Client Send Rate, and Bandwidth Limit now all default to “High”

Nintendo Switch

  • Fixed a memory leak that could cause crashes on Nintendo Switch

Known Issues

  • Server Performance: Because not all players and servers are being affected, we are still researching the root cause. As we learn more, we will update the community with our findings and timeline for a fix
  • During Goal Replays, your local car’s audio may sound too loud relative to the rest of the match
  • For a few specific Wheel & Body combinations, the body’s axles may clip through the front or rear wheels
  • Some UI elements may not be visible during matches
  • Some items like Event Crates may still appear in two stacks in your Garage instead of one
  • Some Wheels may appear smaller than intended
  • Lens Flares not working correctly on PS4
  • Incorrect colors display in old Replays (Replays from before the Tournaments Update/v1.43.)
  • Some players with a Competitive Rank may show up as Unranked at the end of a match
  • Season 3 'Star' Reward Wheels may not have glow effect
  • PS4: Changing Wheels on a Preset may set the Preset back to default with Octane body
    • The above bug should be fixed by rebooting Rocket League or your PS4
  • Ball floats on Utopia Coliseum (Dusk) in Free Play
  • Boost appears 'on' even when not in use

CHANGES AND UPDATES

Tournaments

  • Players can now create and join Tournaments via the Main Menu

    • From the Main Menu, select ‘Play’ and then ‘Tournaments’ to find the Tournaments Menu

  • Tournaments have a maximum bracket size of 128 teams, minimum of eight teams

    • Team members must be in a party in order to register for a tournament

  • Cross-platform tournaments are enabled

  • Tournament creators can set minimum and maximum thresholds for entry based on a player’s Rank in the related Competitive Playlist

  • Tournament creators can also spectate every match in the bracket they created

Quality Connection Status

  • In addition to showing your ping on the scoreboard, you will now also see in-game icons on the HUD if you are experiencing connection problems. This will help you better diagnose if gameplay issues are related to server performance or your connection.

  • You may see one or more of the following warnings when the client detects issues with your connection:

    • High Latency

    • Latency Variance

    • Packet Loss

    • Server Health

  • Additionally, if you are experiencing any of these issues, you will see a warning “!” symbol next to your ping on the scoreboard.

  • If one or more of these issues persists, you will also be notified via a pop-up notification in the Main Menu after exiting a match

Chat Bans and Report Feedback

  • Chat Bans

    • Players can now receive a “Chat Ban” that restricts the banned player from sending chat messages in online play

    • If you are Chat-Banned, you will receive a notification on the main menu with information about the chat that contributed to your ban

    • Quick Chat is still allowed but chat-banned players can only send one Quick Chat message every 5 seconds

    • Chat Bans do not affect Private Matches or Party Chat

  • Report Notifications

    • If a player you reported receives a ban of any kind, you will now be notified of the ban via a main menu notification

Items and Inventory

  • Favorite Items

    • You can now Favorite items in the Garage and Inventory screens. Favorited items appear at the top of each tab

  • Item Stacking

    • Most items will now automatically stack in the Inventory to reduce clutter in the inventory and trade windows

    • Duplicate items with different attributes (e.g. Painted or Certified) do not stack

    • Duplicate items with different trade holds do not stack

    • Each item in a stack still counts towards the maximum items in a trade

    • When adding a stacked items to a trade, you can select how many from the stack to offer with a slider

  • The Garage now supports Search and Filter functionalities

  • The Inventory screen now has tabs to quickly switch between different categories of items

  • Items can now be sorted by Date Acquired and Quality

  • Different Painted Car Bodies can now be equipped to the Blue and Orange teams

User Interface

  • A new “Interface” tab has been added to Options that contains all settings that control the user interface

  • Gameplay

    • Text Chat can now be set to ‘Team Quick Chat Only’

    • Client Send Rate - Limit how many packets your client sends per frame (may help on weak/wifi connections)

    • Server Send Rate - Limit how many packets the server sends you per frame (may help on weak/wifi connections)

    • Bandwidth Limit - Limit total bandwidth used by the game client

  • Camera

    • Camera Presets are now available

  • Controls

    • Controller Vibration now has multiple levels to choose from

  • Interface

    • Nameplate Scale - Adjust the size of player nameplates in the world

    • Nameplate Mode - Combines the old ‘High Contrast Nameplates’ and ‘Always Show Nameplates’ option. 'Default' is the former 'High Contrast Nameplates' setting.

    • Match Notifications

      • All - Show all HUD stat notifications and match time updates

      • Time Only - Hide stat notifications, only show “One Minute Remaining” and countdown

      • Kickoffs Only - Only show “3-2-1-Go”, don’t show “One Minute Remaining” and similar messages

Map Rotation

  • Aquadome and Starbase ARC have been added back into the Competitive Playlist map rotation

Team Colors

  • Expanded the palette of Blue and Orange team color choices for customization

  • In Private and Exhibition matches, you can now select from the full color palette for primary team colors

Camera

  • Made adjustments to Director Camera to make it more reliable in key situations.
  • Auto Camera has been added back into Spectator Mode

In-Game Music

  • You can now listen to Rocket League soundtracks during a match

  • Under the ‘Audio’ Tab in the Options Menu, you can set ‘In-Game Music’ to:

    • Always On

    • Matches Only

    • Training Only

    • Off

Spotify Integration (Steam Only)

  • You can now select a song from the Playlists menu (in the Main Menu or in-game if ‘In-Game Music’ is enabled) and click the ‘Listen on Spotify’ button

    • If you click on ‘Listen on Spotify,’ Rocket League will minimize and you will be taken to the selected track on spotify.com.

    • You must have an active Spotify account in order to view and listen to tracks on Spotify.com.

Enhanced Crowd Audio

  • The in-game crowd can now predict shots and saves using the same logic as the Director camera in Spectator mode

  • Now that the crowd can predict exciting moments, they will get louder and more excited in advance of events instead of only making noise after something happens

Nintendo Switch

  • Video Capture has been added

    • To use Video Capture, press and briefly hold the Share button (below the D-pad) and the last 30 seconds of gameplay will be saved as a video.

  • Switch players can now choose between ‘Performance’ and ‘Quality’ under the ‘Video’ tab in the Options Menu

    • Performance Mode (60fps)

      • Docked: Optimized for 60fps/900p, can scale down to 60fps/720p

      • Handheld: Optimized for 60fps/720p, can scale down to 60fps/576p

    • Quality Mode (30fps)

      • Docked: 30fps/1080p

      • Handheld: 30fps/720p

      • Quality Mode also enables several graphics features automatically, including Lens Flares, Light Shafts, Dynamic Shadows and Depth of Field

Changes and Updates

General

  • Players can now change to another Custom Training pack while playing a Custom Training pack

    • While in a Custom Training pack, pause the game, choose ‘Change Training’ from the in-game menu

  • ‘Stick Sensitivity’ has been added to the Controls menu

    • At the default value of 1.0, your controller will behave the same as before

    • Your analog stick input is multiplied by these values. Increasing them makes your controller more sensitive at the cost of some fine-tuned control

    • At the maximum value of 10.0, your controller behaves like Keyboard steering, turning at maximum speed from any stick tilt

  • ‘Camera Transition Speed’ option has been added to the Camera menu

    • Increasing this value makes your camera blend between Ball Cam and Player Cam more quickly

  • ‘Always Show Nameplates’ option has been added to the Gameplay menu

    • When enabled, this option will prevent other players’ nameplates from being hidden even at long distances

  • All cars are now using one of the standardized presets for handling and hitbox introduced in the Anniversary Update

  • Rocket League is now localized in Polish on all platforms

Main Menu

  • The Main Menu has a redesigned blog UI

    • The blog is now collapsable

    • The blog will auto expand if new news has been added since your last play session

    • More information about live esports events is now included

  • The new ‘Play’ submenu consolidates all Offline and Online play modes into one section.

    • Exhibition and Season modes can now be found under ‘Play Local’

Transparent Goalposts

  • A new ‘Transparent Goalposts’ option has been added that causes goalposts and some walls to become see-through when necessary to see the ball

  • All Arenas but Rocket Labs use this new feature

  • Transparent Goalposts are enabled by default, but can be toggled off to return to their previous, non-transparent behavior

    • To disable, uncheck the ‘Transparent Goalposts’ box in your Video settings under the Options submenu

Audio

  • Introduction of sound ducking in the audible items of the garage

    • When browsing customization items with audio (Goal Explosions, Boosts), in-game background audio/music volume will automatically lower

  • Added delay before playing ‘hover’ item sound to reduce audio spamming in garage

  • Performance pass on general gameplay to reduce voice count on lower volume assets

Director Camera (Beta)

  • A new Spectator camera option called ‘Director’ has been added

  • The Director is an AI-controlled Camera mode that predicts Shots, Goals, and Saves and cuts to the best player view to frame the action

Local Match (Steam Only)

    • ‘Host Local Lobby’ to create a LAN server that other players can join on your network

    • ‘Find Local Lobby’ to browse for LAN servers you can connect to

  • Local / LAN matches allow you and your friends to compete without the need for an internet connection

  • The LAN Lobby creator is hosting the match on their computer. Using Alt-Tab in Fullscreen mode or taking other actions on that computer may affect server performance. Using a Spectator PC to host the lobby for LAN events is recommended

Known Issues

  • Starbase ARC has a few textures that aren't rendering correctly at map start

CHANGES AND UPDATES

General

  • Players now have 50 Car Preset slots, up from ten
  • A “Change Preset” button has been added to the end of game lobby. You can now change to another Battle-Car preset without exiting a match
  • “Dodge Deadzone” added to Controls Options.
    • This setting allows you to control how far you must tilt the controller stick to activate a directional dodge move in the air instead of double jumping.
    • The default value of 0.5 means you must move the stick at least half of the way towards your intended direction to dodge instead of double jump.
    • The maximum value of 1.0 means you must move the stick all the way in a direction to trigger a dodge.
  • Rocket Trails have been renamed Rocket Boosts
  • Pressing Start when selecting Online Playlists now starts the matchmaking search
  • The Boost Meter and Rumble Powerup are now displayed when watching a player in Spectator Mode
  • The Boost Meter and Rumble Powerup now display during Replays
  • A pop-up window will appear when exiting a match when you have indicated you wanted a replay, but did not save a replay
  • A “Maintenance Mode” message has been added to the matchmaking ticker. You will see this only when PsyNet is undergoing maintenance
  • “High Contrast Nameplates” now default to ON. This can be reverted in the Options Menu

Competitive Season 4

  • Competitive Season 4 has ended. Titles and items will be awarded for your highest rank achieved during the season. Season 4 Rewards are custom, non-tradeable Trails

    • Your skill ratings are carried over directly from Season 4 into Season 5
    • You do not have to play placement games this season
    • Players will compete against opponents of the same skill ranking to earn wins that count towards your Season 5 Reward Level
    • Each level requires 12 wins against players of the same Skill Tier or higher
      • Ex: A Bronze player must win 12 games against Bronze Skill Tier players or higher in order to unlock Bronze-level Season Rewards
    • Losses do not affect your win count progression

Car Standardization Changes

  • Implemented a new type of car standardization that minimizes differences in handling and hitbox between cars of the same “type”. For this initial release, this affects the following cars:
    • “Octane” Type: Octane, Octane ZSR, Takumi, Takumi RX-T
    • “Dominus” Type: Dominus, Dominus GT, Hotshot
    • “Plank” Type: Batmobile, Mantis, Paladin, Twin Mill, Centio V17
    • “Breakout” Type: Breakout, Breakout Type-S, Animus GP
      • Note: The Breakout hitbox has been widened slightly. This affects all cars using its standard type.
    • “Hybrid” Type: Venom, X-Devil, Endo
      • Note: This is a new type that offers a middle ground between “Octane”-type and “Dominus”-type hitboxes.

User Interface

  • The “Find Match” window has been updated
    • Casual and Competitive Playlist categories are now separated by dedicated tabs
    • The game will remember your last chosen category
  • A new “Recommended” Server Region has replaced the “Select All” option
    • Recommended servers are any servers with good ping
    • Good ping is defined as 100 ms or below
  • A new warning pop-up message has been added to the trading screen
    • After you invite a player to trade, a new message will appear with several trade-related disclaimers
    • Players have the option to disable the message upon first viewing

Audio

  • Engine Audio for all Battle-Cars has been revised (see “Engine Audio” under “New Content” above)
  • The Music Playlist UI has been updated
    • Rocket League Radio: Players can now select specific soundtrack playlists, or choose all playlists
  • The “Rocket League x Monstercat” playlist has been added with 18 new songs

BUG FIXES

General

  • Updated Car Bumping and Demolition
    • Fixed a bug with Car Bumps and Demolishes that could cause them to be ignored at wider collision angles
    • Fixed an issue where Supersonic FX would stay active despite the car falling below the minimum speed to Demolish opponents
  • Fixed an issue with ball bounces off of the junctions between curved and flat wall segments. These bounces should now be more consistent than before
  • Changed car suspension code to reduce the likelihood of getting stuck when driving up curved surfaces
  • Centers, Saves, and other related stats now work correctly when the “No Goal Reset” Mutator is active
  • Ball should no longer get “stuck” in Free Play Training
  • Party members that go directly to Free Play Training from the post match screen will no longer prevent Party leaders from matchmaking
