We’re excited to announce a new closed playtest for Roman Triumph! Over the past few months, we’ve worked hard to implement feedback from our previous playtest and the Steam demo, and now we’re ready to share the latest version with you.
This playtest is all about preparing for Steam Next Fest, and your input will be key in helping us polish the game even further. The version you’ll get to play is much more feature-rich than the demo currently available on Steam, giving you a deeper dive into the world of Roman Triumph.
Want to join?
This is a smaller, focused playtest, so you’ll need to apply using the form.
What we’re looking for:
Players who love strategy and city-building games with unique challenges.
A couple of hours of your time to explore the new features and mechanics.
Honest feedback – whether it’s good or bad, it all helps us improve!
(Optional) If you can record your gameplay, that would be super helpful!
We’ll review applications soon and contact selected participants with all the details to get started.
Your feedback has already helped shape Roman Triumph, and we’re excited to hear your thoughts on this new and improved version.
I've been busy adding small features, adding quality of life improvements, and fixing bugs based on all the amazing feedback from everyone who played the demo!
Here is a list of what's new in this demo update:
Terrain and World Generation
Improved Terrain Generation: Maps now have a lot more usable space at the edges.
Small terrain deviations blocks a lot less construction. Roads will automatically flatten the ground when placed.
Terraforming Tools: Flatten small mountains or raise land in lakes. You can even create a passage between 2 parts of the maps if the mountains are low enough.
Walls can now be built further into mountainous areas.
New World Generation Settings:
Adjust mountain and lake sizes.
Control resource richness.
Control the frequency of Large Stones (require quarries) and Iron Ores (require iron mines).
Control the fertility levels of the map.
Quality of Life & Other
Added the following:
Rubble Indicators:
Icon overlays to be able to spot quickly where enemies destroyed buildings.
Option to highlight all rubble and rebuild destroyed structures in one click.
Batch upgrade multiple buildings using the last selected upgrade (e.g., furniture upgrades for all houses).
Resource Gathering Prioritization: Hold Shift while selecting trees and rocks to prioritize them. Workers will cut down/gather prioritized trees and rocks first.
Duplicate Building Hotkey: Duplicate buildings using middle mouse button (rebindable).
Hunter Hut Simulation: Hunter Hut efficiency now updates live which is more realistic. Animals no longer flee unless other buildings are constructed nearby.
Building Balance:
Adjusted baseline number of builders required for faster construction.
Reduced upkeep for key buildings like Domus and Hospitium.
New "Forum" building model: Cool looking and more impressive, with stone pavement.
Prevented zooming too close to the ground.
2x Speed Button added.
When placing walls, the ones you can't afford now show in red (instead of not appearing).
Deleting roads now refunds wood.
Balanced food storage and warehouse capacities.
Arena: Updated the scale.
Comfort Indicator: Comfort debuff radius now appears orange to differentiate it from archer range.
Added hotkeys for more actions.
Overlays now stay when activating them manually and placing buildings.
Added a "gather all" tool (to select trees and rocks at the same time).
Bug Fixes
Fixed some bugs causing save files not to load.
Fixed bug causing immigration to stop working.
Hydra going through walls fixed (let me know if this happens again).
Fixed citizens walking in circles when framerate is too low.
Fixed lag when opening the save game panel when the player has a lot of saves.
General stutters should be reduced now.
Enjoy!
Philippe

October Dev Update & Steam Playtest
Steam Playtest
Hey everyone! Right now, we’re gathering sign-ups for the biggest Roman Triumph playtest yet over on the game’s Steam page. This is the last big test before the demo drops, and I’m looking to gather as much feedback as possible to polish everything before release. So, if you’ve got some time, it would really help out!
Also, feel free to hop into Discord to be part of the community, share your thoughts, or even drop a few screenshots if you’re feeling creative!
October Development Update
It has been a while since the last Roman Triumph Development Update… I've been pouring effort into both big changes and the finer details of the game. In addition to adding major features, I've spent a lot of time on quality-of-life improvements and tackling playtest feedback.
Here's a look at some of the most exciting updates.
Building Upgrades & Wonders
Introducing a new building upgrade system also lets you enhance workplace safety, boost housing comfort, and increase production.
Defense upgrades plays a big role in the game now, they include a choice of arrow types for archer towers (iron-tipped, fire, etc.) and options for Ballistae and Scorpions, each with distinct stats and upkeep.
Additionally, I've added new wonders: the Triumphal Arch and Colosseum!
Environment Updates
Maps now feature lakes, varied landscapes, and fertility overlays, adding diversity and strategy to where settlements are built. With natural defenses like lakes and rich soil indicators for farmland, there’s more to consider when expanding your city.
Expanded Production
The food system now includes new items sausages (Butcher), and bread (Bakery), each bringing unique health benefits to citizens. Production chains are deepened with buildings like the Clay Pit and Carpenter, adding complexity to resource management.
New Enemies & Difficulty Options
Get ready for tougher foes like Berserkers and Baby Hydras. Difficulty modes now range from Pax Romana (peaceful) to Peritus Princeps (normal), allowing you to tailor the game to your playstyle, even removing mythological creatures if you prefer.
Stay tuned for more updates!
