🌴Steam Awards: Sit Back and Relax🌴

Hello Pachans 🤗

We are still amazed by the love and support our game received in 2023 (and before). Timo and I started this game development journey from our shared passion for the farm sim genre. A genre that, for many people, including us, is a way to chill and relax after a busy day.

Our game was designed so you can play at your own pace without fear of missing out. Yes, time, days, and seasons pass by, but you can complete the game as you please without any penalty. Enjoy a day of fishing on the beach, ride with your faithful mount through the savanna, or just chill with the rest of the Pachans inside the Hearth on a rainy day.

If you enjoyed chilling with Roots of Pacha, please consider nominating us for the Sit Back and Relax category or any other category you'd like.

Update 1.1

Our next patch is just around the corner, launching next week on Nov. 28th, along with Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5.

Devlog 40: 1.1 Update and Consoles

Roots of Pacha will be on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and 5 on November 28th! Xbox will follow with a release early next year. We are so excited to bring the game to so many more people. Players can join their friends in these Pachan lands no matter which platform they play on with cross-play.

If any Xbox backers would like to change their key to Nintendo Switch, Playstation, or Steam they can update their key request here: https://rootsofpacha.com/orders/. Since console keys are region-dependent, we will follow up soon on how to let us know your region.

We’re so grateful to all who supported us through this process. And of course, thank all the Kickstarter backers who made this all possible.

Tame this ancient animal starting in year two to gather milk or fur. These cuties will have their own unique song for you to play and earn their trust. We have a feeling these animals will play a role in how the game evolves in future updates. 🐮

Take a load off by sitting on your beautiful decorations and get some of that all-important stamina back. It’s a detail we have been wanting to do for a while. 💖

Voda is now a romanceable. We don’t want to spoil too much about her story. But you’ll join her out in the woods with the wolves and take a trip to the jungle.

Did you form a Union too soon? You’ll now be able to break that union if you choose. Your partner will be upset for a bit, but in true Pachan fashion, they will forgive you after some time.

Once you get enough friendship, NPCs will show appreciation for you by sending smoke signals with gifts attached. Some gifts will be recurring with things like bones and fur, while others will be one-of-a-kind.

These one-of-a-kind gifts will include:

  • 16 new dishes and their recipes
  • 10 new hats/masks
  • 11 new furniture pieces
  • 2 new accessories.

Decorate your home with your friend's gifts like this cozy bench from Jag or the tree made of tree from Krak. Get fancy new hats like a set of deer antlers from Igrork. Or get enough friendship with Vuak that he gives you a magic ring that makes friendship never decay.

Having the ability to get your own meat was a recurring request by the community and one we wanted to make sure made sense in the current and future state of the game. Many in the community had excellent ideas we considered, some of which we may revisit.

To get your own meat, you can use traps in the Savanna or raise animals to send to Grob for butchering. This is entirely optional as no content is “locked” behind getting meat but you’ll be able to get quality meat to make high-quality dishes. 🔥

With Ada’s new Idea, you can grow herbs and mushrooms with these decorative and useful items. Grow some oregano for your cooking or lavender to get rid of pesky fleas.

Play a trick with Igrork or learn more about Brah and Vor’s brotherly relationship. Get to know Vuak and Maeri’s long history. See a friendlier side of Tetih after she’s had a few of Ron’s brews.

Thirteen new cutscenes have been added to expand the Pachan stories. We hope you enjoy learning more about the world and its people.

The race maps were given a glow-up with a bit more creative polish. We hope you enjoy their new look.

Lots of performance optimizations have been added to the game. We don’t have a cool graphic for this, but it would have to be something like a cave lion jumping over a house. Impressive stuff.

We’ve rebalanced the end game tree fruits, lowering most of their costs significantly. And added a brand new one that makes it so an animal will never get sick again if you give it to it!

Fish will also have quality levels to make high-quality fish dishes.

The game can now also be played in the Japanese language. And as promised, cross-platform play will be available with Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 & 5. Xbox will be coming early next year.

We’ve got two new regions, children growing up, plant and animal evolution, and more in the works. We will keep folks updated along the way as we continue to expand content for the game and fulfill all the kickstarter stretch goals we are all so excited about.

Thank you all for your support. And if you haven’t left a review on Steam, we would greatly appreciate it. It means a lot.

You rock!

Devlog #39

Hello Pachans!

We have so many exciting things in the works, such as being included in the upcoming Save and Sound event on September 11 at 11 am PDT. To celebrate, we put together a behind-the-scenes look into the music of Roots of Pacha, along with a short performance. We’re so excited to be alongside so many excellent games! We hope you enjoy the show.

Consoles & Update 1.1

Work on consoles has been going well and is on track to be released later this year!

While working on consoles, we discovered how much attention they would need, so we adjusted the list of features for update 1.1. This update will launch for all platforms, including Steam, on the day of the consoles’ release. The current list of features to be included in 1.1 is:

  • Voda romanceable
  • New Friendship cutscenes with non-romanceable characters (Ron/Tetih, Brah/Vor, Maeri/Vuak, Igrork, Gin, Zelk)
  • NPC gifts given by smoke signals
  • Ability to Break a Union and corresponding schedules and dialogues
  • New Savanna animal unlocked in Year 2
  • Japanese support
  • Performance optimizations
  • Smaller QoL and bug fixes

Depending on how the remaining work on consoles goes, we’re also exploring including some of these:

  • New Union locations
  • Optional Hunting/Gathering Minigame
  • Traps
  • Growable mushroom/herb pots

After 1.1

We originally wanted to include children growing to the “kid” stage and animal & plant evolution in 1.1, but those will now be in a future update. Here’s some WIP of those features.

Seeing everyone play and enjoy the game has been an amazing experience. As a small team, we want to ensure the updates get as much love and attention as the base game. After 1.1, we will keep updating the game next year as we have grand plans to add two more regions and more features to the mid and end-game.

We think it will be worth the wait, and as always, we’ll keep you updated on how the development is going.

QoL Update Live Now!

Hello, Pachans!
The first step of the Roadmap is already here. The Quality of Life update is now live! There is so much fun to discover, like:

Smilodon outfit. We love fashion and know this new outfit will make you smile.

New romanceable NPC. Enjoy more cozy moments with Jag in three new flower cutscenes and maybe even form a Union with him.

Pacha tree fruit. Once you complete the Pyramid, you'll be able to exchange for Pacha fruit that grants different boons to make your life easier. Be sure to save a good amount of contributions. You'll need them.

+50 new decos. A set of new elegant decorations is available to exchange with Reese. You can make your home even cozier with the new pots, furniture, and lighting fixtures in bronze, silver, and gold varieties.

Moving buildings. Did you find a better spot for your home? Now you can relocate idea builds and your hut by talking to Croll.

Flower cutscene indicator. It can be easy to lose track of relationships when you're busy in the fields. A new cutscene indicator will help you know which villager is waiting to share a special moment.

Magic Hand Axe. Complete all the challenges in the caves to get this dream tool.

Jukk, the stylist. For 500 contributions, you can ask Jukk to refresh your style.

Obsidian mirror. Tired of that hairstyle or tattoo? This mirror is more than just an elegant home accessory. Change your appearance by interacting with it.

Your house, your rules. If you pass out in your house, you will still wake up there.

And more! The full changelog is listed below 🎉

We hope you enjoy the QoL update and have as much fun as we did making it. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress along the Road Map.

Also, if you haven’t left a review yet, we would greatly appreciate it if you would. 💖

Roots of Pacha Roadmap

First of all,

A little over a month has passed since the 1.0 release of Roots of Pacha. We couldn’t be happier with the initial reception of the game and can’t thank all of you enough. Your feedback and kind words have made us even more excited to see Roots of Pacha reach its full potential.

We’re also super excited to be included in the Cozy & Family Friendly Games Celebration! If you haven’t grabbed a copy there’s a 10% discount during the event.

We’re happy to see so many people making it to the end of the main story, enjoying the village they worked hard to create, watching their families grow, finding those rare and legendary animals, and even starting new saves to do it all over again! We think everyone will be extra excited to see what we have in store.

Driven by the setting, we took the risk of interweaving many of the systems in Roots of Pacha as it felt natural to make the community work as a real one. We feel this made RoP a unique take on a farming sim, with systems growing on top of each other like the farms you cultivate. To be able to achieve the same feeling, our current plan is to do 2 larger updates with a small patch leading up to them.

Beyond the Quality of Life patch, we can only commit to a general timeframe as we want to ensure the updates are of the highest quality and not rushed. As we get further along in development, we’ll be able to give you exact dates and in the meantime, we’ll share our progress via Discord and occasionally social media too.

A small update with a group of quality-of-life features, the promised localization fixes, and some commonly requested player feedback, which will come in the following weeks.

This update will focus on an expansion of the current systems. That includes children growing to the “kid stage,” plant and animal evolution, new Union locations, another romanceable option, the ability to break your union, and more interactions with pets. We also plan to expand the end-game content and include “smaller” details like players being able to sit in places around the world and other community suggestions.

We’d like to launch this update along with consoles. They’re separate processes that are currently being worked on in parallel, so we’re hopeful they’ll be ready at about the same time later this year.

This update will include a whole new level of content, like kids growing to teen years and “ball sport” from the Kickstarter stretch goals, but it will mainly consist of being able to visit the Mograni and Yakuan settlements. You’ll be able to explore their regions, the Tundra and Turtle Islands, find new fauna and flora, discover Ideas, meet new characters (some being romanceable), and dive into new caves. This will be a much larger update that will take more time to create. Our plan is for this one to come out sometime next year.

As we mentioned before, we can’t commit to exact dates for the updates yet as we want to make sure they’re meaningful and fully tested before they reach your hands. We’re confident that our team will be able to deliver it in an acceptable time frame.

Thank you all for following us on this journey. If you haven’t already, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could leave us a review on Steam. It helps a lot.

You rock!

1.0.12 (Build #11360576) Hotfix

Fixes

  • Steam Deck now uses the Native Linux build instead of Proton by default, after we sent it for verification by Steam. Some players who had been using the Proton build could not see their saves. 1.0.12

Feats

- Improved performance of tall grasses in the Savanna.
- Improved animal herd regeneration.

Fixes

- Prickly Pear didn’t look ready to harvest when domesticated.
- Some tall grasses in the Savanna remained after cutting them.
- Tag order was inconsistent between items.
- Fences were invisible but still collidable in interactive cutscenes.
- Torch buff not working when mounted.
- Taming Steam Achievements used to count only currently tamed and not ever tamed.
- Repeatable plants behaved like non-repeatable in the jungle
- Ada’s sick animals quest finished before talking to her, making it impossible to craft medicines.
- Some players were unable to water the vines in the last sand room.
- In multiplayer, players were sent to bed, and other errors when joining a game after it had been paused for a long time.
- In multiplayer, racing could lead to errors because of time desync.
- Typos and variable injections.
- Reported schedule errors.
- Reported dialogue errors.
