Sheltered - Update 4: Public Beta!
Hey Survivors,
You’ve been enduring the apocalyptic wasteland for quite some time now. Some of you have flourished and created a future for your family. Many however, have perished and been claimed by the apocalypse.
Now, the next stage of Sheltered is nearly upon you! Whether you’re a diehard player looking for even greater challenges or someone who wants a less harsh experience this update is for you!
Now ask yourselves this...dare you take on the new Hardcore mode?
Due to the size and scope of this update we’ll be launching it as a BETA today to ensure everything added runs smoothly. We plan to run this BETA for 10 days, starting today. This is subject to change.
The Beta is open to everyone who owns Sheltered and you can access it by following these instructions:
Right click on Sheltered in Steam > Properties.
Head to Betas > input password “BetaForUpdate4” > select check code.
Select the “beta” branch from the drop-down box in the Betas tab.
Allow the title to update. You may need to verify the game cache by heading to Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache…
Launch the game!
Your feedback will be critical for letting us know of any bugs that slipped through the net so if you encounter any please let us know HERE. (You’ll need to sign up for a free Mantis account to do this.)
If you don’t want to start fresh and want to bring your existing Shelter/Family into the BETA you can do it by following the instructions below. Please note if you carry over your save settings you will be locked into Normal difficulty and won’t be able to change it.
Right click on Sheltered in Steam > Properties.
Head to Local Files > Browse Local Files.
Copy contents of folder “saves” to a secure location.
Once you’ve finished playing the beta, you can replace the newer “saves” folder with the older one.
Now let’s take a look at what you’ll be getting stuck into!
3 brand new difficulty settings: Easy, Hard and Hardcore.
The difficulty settings allow users to change the frequency of rain, resources, breaches, factions. It also defines how aggressive or docile expedition encounters are, the size of the map and whether fog of war is enabled or not. Players also have the option to create their own custom difficulty settings.
This brings the total amount of difficulty settings to four, two of which have their own leaderboards. (Easy & Custom does not have leaderboards)
Updated the menu system to incorporate difficulty settings.
Fixed bug where the dog (and party) may not return from expeditions (this may not fix pre-existing issues in old saves)
Fixed bed covers layering issue
Fixed an issue where objects could be crafted on top of one another, or in places they should not be allowed (by the front doors)
Stopped paint eroding on walls
Removed some rogue pixels from a shelter door sprite
Updated breach tutorial popup text
Fixed bookshelf bug where it wouldn’t decrease the amount of books when deconstructed
Updated Horse Stable sprite
Stopped the family stating “the pet is hungry” hints when they are away from the shelter (Dog/Horse)
Stopped automated characters from repeatedly trying to use a bed which is at 0% integrity
Stopped pets getting stuck in partially constructed rooms
Fixed a bug where two deconstruction panels opening at the same time would cause the game to pause until ESC/B is pressed
Fixed bug where breachers would not enter if there was a dead body blocking the door
Updated encounter summary “victory” panel artwork
Unity updated to fix input issues
Once the BETA comes to a close we’ll be rolling it out ASAP, pending any required bug fixes.
We’re excited to hear what you think of this update so head over to the official discussion thread here and share your thoughts, experiences and custom difficulty schemes.

Sheltered Hotfix
Survivors,
We’ve been supporting Sheltered with updates since launch and we’ve been monitoring the feedback after each update to find out what the Sheltered community thinks. We discovered our latest update introduced a bug that affected a small percentage of Sheltered players, causing issues with the map and crafting bench.
Here’s a list of changes:
• Fixed an issue with map icons disappearing on both new and existing saves.
• Fixed an issue with expedition members not returning to the Shelter when affected by the map issue.
• Fixed an issue where the crafting bench panel would not scroll down for tier 2.
For those that were affected by the issues, we thank you for your patience whilst we worked on a fix.
We’ve got plenty more planned for Sheltered so stay tuned for more news!
