To celebrate the anniversaries of: Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon (December 13th, 2021), Shovel Knight: King of Cards (December 10th, 2019), and Shovel Knight Showdown (December 10th, 2019), we are hosting some friendly in-game matches with the Yacht Club Games crew!

Q: What do I need to play?

You will need a Steam account, a computer capable of running Remote Play Together, a solid internet connection, and your choice of peripheral (controller, keyboard, etc.)! You will also need to join our Discord server! We’ll have a special event channel lobby for players.

Q: How do I join your Discord server?

Q: Do I need to own the game?

Since we are hosting with Steam Remote Play Together, you do not need to own a copy of the game.

Q: How do I access my Steam Friend Code?

In your Steam client, hover your mouse over your screen name (located in the navigation bar). Select the "Friends" option in the pull-down tab. This will bring you to your friend page! Select "Add a Friend". On this page, you will see your 10 digit Friend Code.

Q: How do I know if I’ve been selected to play?

On the day of the event, all entrants will receive access to a Discord channel called "Play With the Devs Lobby". Please post in #check-in to confirm your attendance!

If you are chosen to battle with us, then we'll @ you in the #check-in channel and send over a friend request on Steam to start our Remote Play session.

Q: How long will the event last?

2 hours in total!


  • Pocket Dungeon matches will begin at 12 PM PST
  • Showdown / Joustus matches will begin at 1 PM PST
  • The event will officially conclude at 2 PM PST (so we can eat lunch!)


Q: What do I get if I win?

  • Each entrant will play a friendly 1v1 best of 3 matches with the Yacht Club Games crew!
  • Each entrant can pick any character they would like to play as


Showdown Matches:


  • Each entrant will play a friendly 1v1 best of 3 matches with the Yacht Club Games crew!
  • Stages will be selected randomly
  • Matches will be chosen randomly


Joustus Matches


  • Each entrant will play a friendly 1v1 best of 3 card game matches with the Yacht Club Games crew!

New Quandary Runs:


Scrap Knight



  • "Teleporter Bag" Refract Ability Challenge: Throw your bag up to 3 spaces and teleport to it!
  • "Spawner Bag" Character Challenge: Your bag spawns units. If not placed on the board in time, it will be tossed to a random spot!

Prism Knight



  • "Crystal Clones" Refract Ability Challenge: Spend HP to create clones that mimic your movements.
  • "Crystal Chains" Character Challenge: Units forming a chain automatically pop! Regular attacks no longer chain.

General



  • Shuffle Knight B does not shuffle at the beginning of the stage. Shuffle Knight carries over between stages.
  • The game now rechecks Steam achievements on load.
  • A/B icon spins when switching Character Ability.
  • Invisishades now stay in their hurt portrait while hiding.

Bug Fixes



  • Fixed that Clockwork Tower and Scholar Sanctum had their unit spawn rate reduced.
  • Fixed crash if you used Glide Dive without having moved once.
  • Fixed Gem Chain ignored gem reward-related modifiers.
  • Fixed Plague Knight B and Specter Knight B had the wrong sprite when falling from the beanstalk.
  • Fixed that there was an empty spot inside the beanstalk.
  • Your character stops aiming their ability/item if a boss is defeated.
  • Fixed foes defeated by Ratsploders would give out gems.
  • Fixed bombs were missing their “warning sign pop”.

Due to an error on Mac not detecting Steam, save data will have to be stored on a local, non-Steam folder.

You can backup your save data by:

  1. Copying it from this location:

  2. To this location:

When the bug is fixed, you can use the local save-data copy and place it back in the steam save-data folder.

General Fixes

  • Fixed softlock if you flipped a boss upside down using a Joustus card.
  • Fixed having increased attack on Adventure would make certain attacks have more attack than anticipated. (For example: using the bombable block Joustus card on yourself).
  • Fixed Random Knight randomizes on Quick Restart during a quandary
  • Fixed Keys would not spawn during “Total Bash”.
  • Fixed that only Knights from the base game could achieve the stache ending
  • Fixed that beating the game with a refract ability would not count as a victory in the guidebook.
  • Fixed that Troupple King had a shadow.
  • Fixed Tipp’s first bump has no dialogue.
  • Fixed Spinwulfs, Floatsomes, and Electrodents KO and hurt SFX were swapped
  • Fixed Shuffle Knight appeared duplicated in hub if you had unlocked their Refract Ability.
  • Fixed Shuffle Knight B not displaying their competition medal in the hub.
  • Fixed a rare crash when defeating units (more commonly found in Versus Mode).

Improvements and Balance Adjustments

  • Increased Tinker Knight’s “Mech Forever” starting metal from 20 to 25.
  • Increased Pridemoor Keep’s Metal Block spawn rate in “Mech Forever”.
  • Removed the default avocado Joustus card if a unit had no Joustus card assigned to it (now no card is awarded).
  • King Knight B can now only hold 16 cards at a time. Added HUD indicator for this.
  • Moved the Joustus deck below King Knight when selecting a card on the top rows.
  • Memmecs now jump when hit.
  • Stache is lost when using a shortcut.
  • Knights that have at least one Quandary open (and Tipp!) can now visit the Castle Quandary at random.
  • Knights can now access their first Quandary for free.
  • New Adventure setting “Bump Assist”: Prevents you from hitting an enemy if it is going to knock you out once, reloads after a while.

New Quandary Runs:


King Knight:



  • "Joustus King" Refract Ability Challenge: Collect Joustus cards from chains! You can use these to damage foes or for other extra effects.
  • "Total Bash”" Character Challenge: Move by bashing! Penalties from bashing removed. You can use your ability to move 1 space at a time at the cost of 1HP.

Shuffle Knight:



  • "Identity Crisis" Refract Ability Challenge: Drinking a potion shuffles your Knight.
  • "Super Random!" Character Challenge: Everything is as random as it gets. Held items and relics randomize each stage.

New Relics:



  • Attack Coin: Sometimes +1 attack.
  • Defense Coin: Sometimes block a hit when attacking.
  • Big Bohto Bugle: Adds a bugle to Chester’s shop. If you bump it, you can reroll the shop once per stage. Relics are also cheaper.
  • Relic Box: Cheaper relic that transforms into a random relic next stage.


General



  • Tinker Knight now gets extra metal from blocks when using Obsidian Drill (damage that exceeds the HP of the enemy gives metal).
  • Units placed from Scrap Knight's bag now wait on their tile for a turn before dropping.
  • You can now re-watch Hedge Farmer’s dance.
  • Relics in the guidebook now use their bigger sprite on the second page.

Bug Fixes



  • Fixed keys affected by Super Skeleton Key would waste Tinker Knight’s metal.
  • Fixed War Horn being able to open chests.
  • Fixed War Horn was able to one-shot Tinker Knight’s mech.
  • Fixed Treasure Knight B was able to pull invisible exit portals.
  • Fixed Mobile Gears were not immune to bombs if you had Bomb Seed Bag.
  • Fixed one less key spawned per stage.
  • Fixed indirect damage would waste metal for Tinker Knight.
  • Fixed you couldn’t use the Wildcard on the Shrinemaster.
  • Fixed descriptions for Tinker Knight and Propeller Knight’s Quandaries would be cut short.

Tinker Knight:



  • "Mobile Gear" Refract Ability Challenge: Collect metal to build and ride mobile gears that attack on their own. If riding a gear, you can also eject out of it to a free space above.
  • "Mech Forever”" Character Challenge: Starts in mech mode; running out of metal will result in a game over.

Propeller Knight:



  • "Glide Dive" Refract Ability Challenge: Fly up and dive on the highest available space. Your blade charges up by attacking once in each direction.
  • "Boy, It’s Windy!" Character Challenge: A strong wind keeps units from falling down. Units spawn in full rows.

New Relics:



  • Underdog Charm: Extra attack when surrounded.

General



  • Mole Knight B no longer finds fewer potions.
  • Using Wildcard on blocks now collects metal for Tinker Knight.
  • Added portraits to the quandary portals.
  • The star above a quandary portal now spins around every now and then.
  • Added a quandary section to the Guidebook.
  • “Under the Well” quandary: Rows will try to spawn a minimum of 2 potions per row and units take a turn longer to start falling.
  • You can now unlock Refract Abilities for use in Adventure and Versus (not the CPU for now) by beating their quandary.
  • Unlocked Refract Abilities are available when playing as Random or Shuffle Knight.
  • Entering the Quandary Sage’s area with Random Knight will randomize your Knight until you leave the area.

New Quandary Run Characters:



Mole Knight:



  • "Claw Attack" Refract Ability Challenge: You can move anywhere in the well and attack units that are above you; however, you find fewer potions.

  • "Well Buried" Character Challenge: The board is always full! Defeating units will just make more spawn. If you do not clear foes fast enough the board will collapse!


Treasure Knight:



  • "Anchor Hook" Refract Ability Challenge: Hook units towards you or anchor yourself towards the edges of the well.

  • "Under the Well" Character Challenge: New units take longer to spawn but do so in full rows coming from below.


New Relics:



  • Cosmic Cupcake: Some blocks are cake! They heal for 1HP. Heal does not stack.


General



  • Siderooms no longer spawn bombable blocks
  • Plague Knight B can no longer jump into pits without Nimbus Balloon
  • Specter Knight B can now dash slash through units of different types
  • Extra Toxic quandary: Foes defeated by poison now give 15 gems flat. Unaffected by gem meter or chain bonus.
  • Added portrait art to Specter Knight B’s potions
  • Added sprite and portrait art to Specter Knight B’s turkeys
  • Tief now leaves if spotted by Puzzle Knight
  • Characters that have no ability now nudge 2 pixels down
  • Hedge Farm area now unlocks when you have unlocked 3 knights and enough to grow the beanstalk.
  • Adjusted relic unlock prices.
  • Adjusted Puzzle Knight and Mona’s crown height in Versus.



Bug Fixes



  • Fixed Mona would display default aim sprites when canceling her ability
  • Fixed wind could push you out of bounds
  • Fixed softlock when Plague Knight B jumped into a pit
  • Fixed Plague Knight B’s bomb burst would not destroy bombable blocks

Puzzler’s Pack NEW Content Overview



New Quandary Run Characters:


Specter Knight:


MoonlightCharacter Challenge: Every so often the moon will change phases. When it is full, Specter Knight will lose his recovery ability and transform.

Scythe SliceRefract Challenge: Slice through chained foes! (As long as there is a free spot at the end of the chain!)

Plague Knight:


Extra ToxicCharacter Challenge: All monsters have increased HP in this challenge. Poison damage persists but acts slower. Foes defeated with your poison attack will not reward gems.

Bomb BurstRefract Challenge: Plague can now jump all around the field. While at full health, collect potions to store up Bomb Burst charges!

New Relics:


Super Skeleton Key: This is the only key you will ever need! Rumors say other keys burst when hit with it! Terrific!

Stick of Ram: Charging in the same direction will give you more damage! Make sure to not slow down!

Fixes in Update:


General



  • Puzzle Knight no longer spends a full turn when rotating units but instead will slightly advance turn time.
  • Mona + Potion Napkin: Only potions aligned with Mona horizontally or vertically are immune to explosions from other potions.
  • Small art update to the Quandary description board.
  • Added a “Shader Strength” setting under “Video Options”. You can use this to lower or turn off shaders used in Quandaries (i.e. Specter’s Moonlight).
  • Text update on some of the new feats & quandary descriptions.
  • Items stay in place for a turn when opening a chest.

Bugs



  • Fixed Gold Leaf Clover would make an extra chest appear on a stage.
  • Fixed Gold Leaf Clover would not improve your item odds in King Chests.
  • Fixed Mona’s victory portrait having the wrong sorting order in VS
  • Fixed Shrinemaster had his hurt portrait missing.
  • Fixed you could get stuck on the top row after a Shovel Drop during the Shrinemaster fight.
  • Fixed poison bombs were flashing red from the get-go.
  • Fixed traps could hurt you when entering portals, Chester's chest, or doors if timed correctly. Traps underneath a portal now get deleted when you exit them.
  • Fixed units desyncing from the board if you entered a portal while they were being tossed into the air.
  • Fixed items were bombproof.
  • Fixed items losing durability to opening chests.

Available Now


New Playable Characters:

  • Puzzle Knight - Everyone’s favorite puzzle prodigy is now a playable character! While on your run, you’ll be able to rotate surrounding foes clockwise to create convenient new combos!
  • Mona - Our green mini-game queen can now embark on her very own Pocket Dungeon adventure! Utilize her awesome alchemist abilities by exploding nearby potions. Chain them to get more bang for your buck!



New Areas to Explore

  • Hedge Farm - An earthy plot of land has appeared in the Pocket Dungeon! Ready that green thumb of yours, the wholesome Hedge Farmer needs some agricultural assistance!
  • Castle Quandary - Uncover a brand new secret quest in the Pocket Dungeon! Scale a colossal beanstalk to discover a confounding castle nestled in the clouds



New Quests
In the Quandary Castle, you’ll unlock unique challenges called “Quandry Runs” for each playable character! Note: Only 2 out of the 4 quests are accessible with Shovel Knight.


New Relics
Chester dug up 2 new Relics to aid you in your quest! Test 'em out on your run!

  • Mr. Hat Shop: Whoa! A well-tailored traveler has wandered into the Pocket Dungeon. He’ll sell you various headpieces that modify your runs! There will be 20+ run modifiers to purchase!
  • Mod Support: Mod support will allow players to add their own content to the game. This feature will only be for the PC version.
  • Refract Abilities: Challenge yourself with new takes on your favorite character’s abilities! Variety is the spice of life!
