Hey everyone !
This is your friendly reminder that we are making good progress with the next update for Stranded Sails!
We took your feedback into consideration and thought long about new improvements. So, again, thank you all for your constant feedback. ːsteamhappyː
One thing we are going to tackle in the next update are more side-activities on the Cursed Islands. We want to give you more meaning in the exploration of the world besides the main quest and your regular every day work and new side-activities will add more rewarding variety to the gameplay of Stranded Sails!

But I will go more into details about this soon. What I can show you already is the new rewards you can obtain in the next update:

Weekly News are back! Future updates, more news and content!

Hello Sailors !

It’s been a while since we posted our weekly news about everything Stranded Sails related.
Some reached out to us in the meantime and asked if we are still working on Stranded Sails and if there are more updates to come.

And the answer is yes! ːsteamhappyː
We are already back to work after the holiday season and are planning future content updates to improve the gameplay of Stranded Sails.
We can’t talk about details right now but we promise to pick up the speed again and show you what we are working on once we are ready to talk about it. Stay tuned!

Big Exploration Update - Now Available!

Hey everyone!

The day has finally come and we officially release our "Exploration Update", the first big update with a ton of improvements for Stranded Sails! Once again, we can’t thank you all enough for all the feedback that you send our way and the bugs that we were able to squash because you’ve found them.


Exploration Update - Highlights


We’ve made a lot of changes to the game and you can read up the juicy details in the patch notes but we want to highlight some changes here:

Fast travel via portal stones



While exploring the Cursed Islands you will now encounter ancient portal stones. Find and activate them to be able to use key shards and crafted portal keys to travel between all of the ones you have discovered!


Adjusted walking and rowing energy cost!



The most important feedback we got from you was that moving around the islands always costing energy made exploration feel tedious and unfun. To address this, we changed walking and rowing to no longer cost energy when moving slowly. Sprinting and your new ability to row faster will still cost energy, giving you the option to invest some of your provisions to get around quicker!


Improved rowing gameplay



While on the high seas you will now encounter seagulls chasing flotsam. Use your new ability to row faster to race them and reach the floating treasure first to collect various items!


Craft and cook multiple items at once



To save time, you can now craft and cook multiples of the same item. Increase the amount of resulting items while a blueprint or recipe is selected and create them all at once!


Improved precision of interaction while using mouse & keyboard



This change should be especially noticeable while farming.


Improved intro & tutorial quest line


The quest line up until you get your rowboat has been streamlined to not only give you more explorative freedom early on, but also allow you to explore the Cursed Island more quickly after setting sail!


Other Changes


  • Adjusted various energy costs
    • Walking and rowing are now free, sprinting and rowing faster costs energy.
    • Adjusted energy costs of tool usage to compensate for the now free movement.
    • Rebalanced fishing energy costs for fish within each tier to be more similar in overall energy required to catch it.

  • Improved ingame explanation and communication for the recipe discovery system.
  • Items dropped are now picked up more reliably and from further away, resulting in you not having to walk over each dropped item to collect it.
  • Selecting your map via its shortcut will now instantly open the map UI instead of equipping it.
  • Potatoes, onions and carrots will now be dug out automatically after harvesting them.
  • Added day, daytime, buff duration and description display. Open your tool selection to view these details.
  • You can now hold down the interact button to cut down trees and bushes.
  • You are now able to skip the stew for the crew UI animation after starting one.
  • Changed most containers in the world to be opened with a specific tool, adjusted their visuals, contents, spawn and drop rates.
  • Seeds are now gathered a lot less frequently while farming, and can instead be found more frequently while exploring.
  • Added thorn bushes to various locations in the world, requiring you to cut them down with your axe to progress.
  • Adjusted optional camp structure costs.
  • Changed the interaction priority of equipped food, making it less likely to accidentally eat it while trying to interact with something else.
  • Stew rewards can now be acquired more reliably from quest relevant NPCs.
  • Reduced time it takes for fish to bite and increased amount of fish that can be caught in each fishing spot.
  • Added a more informative interaction indicator. It now displays an icon corresponding to the tool(s) you need to equip to interact with certain objects.
  • Adjusted the way the camera follows the player character, fixing an issue that could cause “jittery” camera movement.
  • Increased all dialogue text scroll speeds and added an “instant” option.
  • Improved formatting of russian localization and fixed various typos in german translation.

Developer Notes:
We made all these changes and improvements in response to and based on the feedback you provided us. This update is only one of the first steps we are taking on the way of making Stranded Sails a better game. Thank you so much for playing and providing us with feedback, and please continue to do so and help us make the game even better going forward!


Question: Do I have to start a new game or can I play the new update with an old savegame?
Answer: You can play your with your old savegame. But we recommend to start a new game as the new update focuses a lot on changes of the first couple of hours of the game. So you should start a new game if you want to experience all the changes we made with the new update!

(Beta)-Update 1.1 - You can try out the newest update

Hey everyone,

we have some great news today!
You can’t wait any longer for the next update of Stranded Sails? This is your lucky day!
Since the release of Stranded Sails, we worked hard on the next coming update.
We listened to player feedback and tried many things to improve the gameplay of Stranded Sails - and now we are ready to send out the current build for a TEST RUN.

You can help us immensely by playing the new update and report any issues you encounter and report the bugs you may find while playing!

Disclaimer

Important: To gain access to the changes in this update, enter the beta branch for Stranded Sails via the game’s properties in your library (See the picture below in this post). While playing in the beta branch, all languages except for german are replaced with english, due to the translations being work in progress. When this update comes out of beta and is fully released, all supported languages will become available.


New Features and Changes in Update 1.1

Bugfixes


* Fixed a bug that caused the Ancestor to not immediately reward the player with the correct hat after mastering one of his Trials.
Dev Notes: This happened when the player cleared more waves than necessary without fainting. The hat was still obtainable by talking to the Ancestor multiple times.

* Fixed a bug that could cause a farming plot tile to become unusable after planting something.
Dev Notes: This bug caused literally nothing to be planted, thus the tile became unusable in every regard. Previously broken tiles should also be fixed now.

* Fixed a bug that could cause enemies to drop into the ground or completely fall off the pyramid.
Dev Notes: Should an enemy still happen to fall off or drop into the ground it will now automatically return to the fighting ground.

* Fixed an issue that would lead to an error in the saving menu when using the manual save function while auto saving was disabled.
Dev Notes: This happened when the player saved manually during the last quest where auto saving is disabled. Manual save is now disabled as well in these situations.

* Fixed an issue that could cause the player to get stuck when returning to the camp via map during the Cast Off! quest.

* Fixed a bug that could lead to the player becoming stuck in the cooking or crafting menu when trying to cook or craft an item.

* Fixed an issue that caused controller navigation to be broken in the cooking or crafting menu when closing the exit popup with a controller button instead of the popup cancel button.

* Fixed a bug that could cause the Ancestor's Trial's progress to not be loaded correctly when saving and reloading the game during the Trial.

* Disabled support for steering wheels and flying joysticks so having on of these connected should not trigger inputs all the time.

* Fixed a bug that caused the rain effect to remain active when returning to camp or fainting while being on the boat in high waves territory.

* Fixed an issue that caused the item description display to still be visible when trying to leave the cooking or crafting menu.

* Fixed an issue that caused the energy bar drain animation to stay stuck when walking.
* Fixed a bug that caused the player to act in slow motion after getting hit while already fainting.

* Fixed an issue that caused input glyphs to display a white square when their respective key bindings were empty.

* Fixed an issue that caused the UI fadeout to happen even while the Item Discovery Popup was active.

* Fixed an issue that would use the map or telescope instead of opening the equipment menu when clicking on the tools button while having one of these tools equipped.

* Fixed a bug that caused the sound effect for touching a symbol to still be heard even when sound was turned off.

* Fixed an issue that could cause to not re-enter the ship at the end of the game.

* Fixed various typos in localization.

We made all these changes and improvements in response to and based on the feedback you provided us. How to enter the beta branch (Update 1.1)?




  1. Right click on the game
  2. Click on "Properties"
  3. Than click on "beta"
  4. Open the drop down menue
  5. Select the Beta-Branch
  6. Wait for the download and start the game
  7. hf & gl!


Question: Do I have to start a new game or can I play the new update with an old savegame?
Answer: You can play your with your old savegame. But we recommend to start a new game as the new update focuses a lot on changes of the first couple of hours of the game. So you should start a new game if you want to experience all the changes we made with the new update!

NEW UPDATE - Planned for this year!

Hello adventurers,

We would like to thank all those who have written us their feedback so far and shared their honest opinions with us. We take your constructive feedback very seriously and take a close look at every review and feedback submission because we want to change and improve the game together with you. We are happy that many of you recognize the potential of Stranded Sails and we would like to harness it with your support.

First bug fixes and adjustments have already been made. We have planned some changes and improvements to come in the future and our goal is to provide you with a new update estimated by the end of this year.

The following lists some of the changes we plan on making to improve gameplay, add content and give the game more variety and depth in general.

(1) Planned Quality of life improvements including but not limited to the following:
• Reduce time it takes to craft or cook multiples of the same item
• Add auto pickup of items within a larger radius
• Make tree-chopping more comfortable by allowing you to hold down the interact button
• Add display of buff durations for you to see how long a buff will last
• Add display of the selected recipe’s/blueprint’s tooltip while cooking/crafting
• Make eating food not interfere with NPC/object interaction
• Improve usability of the map by allowing you to access it more easily and quickly
• Improve mouse-only gameplay (especially with regards to precision of movement and interaction)

(2) Planned Energy & Exploration Update with the goal of making exploration more interesting and energy consumption feel rewarding rather than punishing:
• Improving rowing gameplay
• Add necessity of using various tools while exploring
• Add fast travel option between all different islands
• Make the stew for the crew relevant in the late game
• Shorten the intro and tutorial so that you get to explore the Cursed Islands earlier after starting the game
• Improve Recipe Discovery mechanics tutorialization
• New achievements & Steam leaderboards

(3) Planned Combat & Survival Update with the goal of improving combat variety, depth and overall challenge:
• Make enemies more interesting and varied
• Make combat gameplay more interesting by allowing you to dodge during combat
• Adjust the Ancestor’s Trial to be a challenge rather than a chore
• Add a way for you to play a more challenging version of the game
• New achievements & Steam leaderboards

Please keep in mind that all of the changes listed are still subject to change, depending on how well those ideas work out in the end, but also depending on your feedback going forward.

As mentioned above, we try to bring changes and improvements to Stranded Sails as soon as we can. More updates will follow at the beginning of next year. We want the world of the Cursed Islands to feel more and more alive and make exploring it meaningful by adding side activities in the open world. We also want to add optional goals for you to work towards.

We hope that you will continue providing us with feedback and thank you for staying with us on this journey of making Stranded Sails a great game.

Update 1.03 is now live! Various bugfixes

Hello adventurers!

Thanks to your feedback we've been able to squash various bugs in this patch!
Please continue to report any issues you find in our Bug Tracking and Feedback forum! You may also talk to us directly on Discord.


Update 1.03 - Patch Notes


- Fixed an issue that would cause the screen to glitch out while rowing the boat, also known as the Yellow Screen of Death.
Dev Notes: As already announced, due to the lack of an accurate reproduction we could only implement fail safe mechanics to prevent the game from crashing or graphically glitching out. Save games that got corrupted due to the glitch should now work again with this patch. Players that lost their boat should now also get it back. If you still have issues concerning this bug, don't hesitate to contact us!

- Fixed a bug that could prevent the player from progressing in the "Ancestral Recall" quest by not giving them a second chance to touch a symbol after they selected "Leave" the first time they interacted with it.

- Fixed an issue with the quest "The First Statue" that would enable players to get access to the canoe without walking through a necessary objective trigger.
Dev Notes: Players who were tasked with finding the canoe could simply return to the camp via map and get it without advancing in the questline. We added additional trigger zones so this is no longer possible. Players who already got the canoe but haven't advanced in the quest simply have to walk up the pyramid to be able to continue.

- Fixed a bug that got players stuck in the ship's cabin during the quest "Turn of Events".

- Fixed a bug that would prevent the barriers from going down after finishing a combat encounter.
Dev Notes: This only happened if a player fainted in combat and retried the same encounter after. The barriers would not go down due to the combat zone not properly resetting.

- Fixed a bug that would cause the questlog to stay hidden after fainting during combat.

- Fixed an issue that could cause the player to get stuck in the cooking/crafting menu when trying to leave while the cooking/crafting animation was still in progress.

- Fixed an issue that could cause spawned quest items to get inaccessible after reloading the game on the very first island the player got stranded on.

- Fixed an issue that could cause the player movement controls to be disabled when starting the game.
Dev Notes: This was fixable by opening and closing the pause menu.

- Fixed a bug that could cause a spawned quest item to be duplicated when reloading at a specific point after picking it up.

Developer Notes:


With this patch we have fixed a lot of the progression blocking bugs, most notably the Yellow Screen of Death issue. We are still working on general improvements of the game and we thank each and everyone of you for your patience.

Update on Improvements

Hi adventurers,

We have a short update for you as we are continuing to improve the game. Just as you openly give us your feedback, we would like to inform you transparently:
 
New Description
To make it easier for all interested players to judge whether they like the game or not, we've revised the description  (see "About this game"). The new description is already available in English and German. Other translations will follow soon. Your reviews have been an essential basis for us to see exactly what we need to include in the description to better meet players' expectations.   

Bug Fixing
Thank you very much for your bug reports in the forum. Category A and B bugs are currently being fixed by the developer. Please don't hesitate and keep writing so that we can fix all the bugs.

Russian Translation
Many Russian players have informed us that the localization is incorrect. That's why we're having the Russian version checked right now. Until we have a correct, playable translation, we have deactivated the support for this language.

Improved Design
We appreciate your feedback on how we can make the game more interesting and appealing. The game designers are already working on checking all the ideas and making the game more beautiful according to your wishes.
