Hi folks. We will have some quick server maintenance tomorrow (27th of July). It's a small change to the database and should only take a few seconds if all goes well. During that time, some requests from the game to the server may fail.
We will have another bit of server maintenance before the Cyberpunk release. We will keep you posted on the date and time of that one as that schedule is finalized.
Have a good one!
Region switching beta
In this little patch, we give campaign creators a dropdown for switching the campaign's region.
We use a third-party service to handle the majority of our real-time traffic. That provider has servers in different regions around the world.
When you create a campaign, we pick the region with the lowest ping (at the time).
This dropdown allows you to change that region.
When you do, any players in the campaign will automatically be disconnected and reconnected to the new region.
We aim to test this feature on the beta branch and then bring it to the rest of the community early next week. This will require some backend work which we will schedule soon.
Happy testing!
Beta Update - Restore Deleted Boards
With this update, GMs can now undelete boards that were deleted in the past week.
Also, we fixed a bug where the unique-creature list was not correctly updated when creatures were removed from a board.
As you might have gleaned from the title, this is currently only on the polymorph Beta branch but will go public at a similar time to the polymorph feature.
Back soon folks!
Beta Patch: Improving the unique-creature panel
This update brings small improvements to the unique-creature panel by adding delete and a way to jump to the creature regardless of where it is in the campaign.
This patch is currently only on the polymorph branch as it relies on some UI improvements that have not made it to release yet.
No worries though, as soon as polymorph goes public, these fixes will too.
Have a good one folks
Polymorph is now in Beta
The Polymorph feature has now reached Beta. Let’s talk about what this is and whether you will want to check it out now or wait for the full release.
The whats and the whys
Polymorph allows you to give a creature multiple models (morphs) that you can switch between at will.
While the feature will not be getting major functionality changes before release, it still needs small improvements, and we want to track down as many bugs as possible.
This Beta allows people who don’t mind braving an unfinished feature to try it out without any risk to their existing creations.
We do this by allowing you to opt into a separate branch of TaleSpire. This branch has its own servers, so none of your existing campaigns or boards are available, and nothing you do on the branch will break your boards outside the branch.
Is it for you?
We wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t enjoy messing around with unfinished and broken things. But if you do, then check out the guide linked below.
We aren’t setting a fixed date as it depends on what bugs we find and which we feel need fixing before release. It will be at least one week, though[0].
[0] We are giving at least one week as we want to give makers of unofficial mods a chance to update their work.
Alt Hotfix
Hi folks,
Just a quick hotfix for this evening. When we replaced the Alt-Enter (toggle fullscreen) implementation, we fell afoul of a bug in Unity's input system. Their bug means the state of the Alt key is not reset if you Alt-Tab away from the window.
We found a setting that mitigates this, hopefully without opening us up to more fun bugs. This hotfix delivers that to you.
Earlier today, we also tweaked which dependencies Steam automatically installs, which we hope will fix the dll issues some Windows 11 players were seeing. If it doesn't work for you, please do reach out to us.
If all goes to plan, then the polymorph beta will be in your hands tomorrow.
This week polymorph is going to become available for testing. We are rolling this feature out differently than usual, so I thought it would be good to explain the process and why we are doing it.
Also, now that I have moved house, I finally have decent internet speeds again, so it’s time to bring back developer streams. Details are towards the end of this log.
Polymorph Beta
The short version is that we will be making polymorph available on a beta branch of TaleSpire so that the brave and wreckless can try it out and report bugs before we push it out to everyone else.
We’ve wanted to start doing this as it allows us to catch critical bugs without doing damage to existing creations.
-AND-
We also know that even though they are unsupported, there are folks out there hacking the game to make mods. We’d like to give them a bit of time to update their work to fix anything that isn’t compatible with changes to the game.
To this end, the polymorph beta will be opt-in and take place on an entirely different backend from the one you are currently playing on. And that backend will only last for the duration of the testing. That means that when we release the feature to everyone, the test backend will be shut down, and everything that was on that branch will be cleared.
The process to opt-in will be something like this:
You will open the Steam beta properties for TaleSpire
You’ll enter a password we give out later this week
You’ll be given the option to opt into the beta
If you do, the game will update, and then you will be on our testing build and backend
Opting out is as simple as setting the beta back to “None.”
We’ll have full instructions and warnings out on the day.
Yup, we are finally doing a dev stream again. We will be live on twitch.tv/bouncyrock this Thursday at 11pm Norway time (click the link above to see the time in your timezone.
This will be a general catchup. As usual, you’ll have the opportunity to fire questions at us too.
That’s all for today
That’s all the news for today, there has been plenty of code and art work going on, but we can save that for another dev-log.
Ciao!

HOTFIX : Hero Forge Integration Fix
We had some issues last night where the Hero Forge Library wasn't loading. This patch should address this issue.
Thank you all for your patience.
A single fix
We kick off the week with a small fix. With this patch, TaleSpire now correctly handles UI scaling when Alt-Enter is used to toggle fullscreen/windowed mode.
Now to see what else we can fix this week.
The bug squash-athon continues!
This time we went after five annoyances:
We fixed a case where you couldn't change vsync or windowed mode without also changing resolution
The scroll speed of the screen resolution dropdown was too high
Dice thrown by other players would judder rather than come to a complete stop
Master volume is now a percentage
Fix the fps settings, so they are now applied correctly
It's very easy for small things to fall by the wayside with all the big features that need writing, so getting a handful of these fixed feels good.
