Three little fixes

We are back again with three more fixes based on user feedback and logs sent to the servers.

Firstly, we now force an auto-saves every 10 minutes regardless of building activity. Previously we waited 30 seconds after the last build action; however, many of you are marathon builders, and we were not saving your work often enough. This made some bugs far more painful when people lost work.

Next, we found and fixed a bug causing creature-related errors when switching boards. This one probably flew under the radar, but it's good to get it fixed.

And lastly, editing the initiative list in turn-based mode is much easier as picking creatures is now pixel perfect.

And that is all for this patch. There is always more to fix, so you can expect us to be back with more in the coming week.

Windows 7 Hotfix

This patch fixes a bug related to monitor scaling that affected people on Windows 7.

The next Windows-specific bug we are going after affects people running Windows 11. We will keep you posted.

We also are sneaking in a little fix that stops ruler keybindings from trying to do things when not in a board.

Stability patch the third

It's been a couple of weeks, but we are back with the fixes for the next set of most common errors (according to the servers).

We have:

  • A fix for a case where joining a board during certain operations could cause an error
  • Code that handles cases where 3rd party library was delivering messages at unexpected times
  • A fix for a selection of bugs where certain combinations of delete and undo/redo could result in incorrect board states.
  • A fix for a nasty bug that resulted in random crashes during copy/paste

We also added the tiniest user-requested feature. Clicking the build-id now copies the id to the clipboard.

A big shout-out to you as well! There is no way that we would find and fix all these issues without the incredible help we have received. Thank you!

See you in the next patch :)

Midweek Patch

Hi again folks,

The last patch apparently did its job! Some of the most common bugs that TaleSpire was logging to the server have gone away. This exposed the next set of common bugs, some of which are definitely more tricksy.

This patch does fix a couple of things, but its main job is to add extra logs to help us solve those bugs that are putting up a fight.

This patch fixes:

  • Some bugs which allowed placing assets outside the current bounds of the board
  • The case where tiles and props were not rendering during disconnections

Until next time,
Have fun!

Stability Patch

Hi everyone!

When we shipped the HeroForge integration, we also shipped a ton of other changes required for mods and polymorph.

With the change came bugs, and this patch aims to clear up a few of the most frequently appearing ones. We hope this will make general play a little more stable and let us see the less frequent bugs more clearly.

In this patch we:

  • Fixed a case where summoning the same unique multiple times could cause an error
  • Fixed a bug where pasting a slab whose length is the same as the slab in the internal clipboard would cause an exception
  • Fixed a bug where specific timing of picking up a creature and pressing the vertical move modifier could cause an error
  • Made sure it no longer freaks out in a case where a creature icon was missing from the inventory item
  • Fixed a case where GM request for a missing creature could cause an exception

We are in full swing working on the polymorph feature and hope to have something to show you soon!

Seeya in the next patch.

p.s. To those dealing with connectivity issues, we haven't forgotten you. We are tracking these issues and are in contact with the service we use for a lot of our traffic. This patch only deals with bugs in the game itself, but we will keep you posted as we get more information.

Small Patch

Hey folks, we have a couple more small fixes for you today:

  • We have fixed some cases where double-clicking to move the camera to the position would fail and bring you to the ground.
  • Improved handling of the base texture during conversion of HeroForge minis

Back soon with more!

Patch Notes: Creature Movement Ruler

This patch includes the initial version of the Creature Move Ruler. The Creature move Ruler simply attaches to the Creature as you move them, allowing for quicker measurements while going in straight lines. We'll look into iterating on this feature in the future.

It can be enabled in the ruler foldout in the lower right corner.

There is also a fix for a slippery bug causing TaleSpire to crash sometimes when going back to the main menu.

Changes

  • Add an option "Creature movement" ruler
  • Fix a bug that inconsistently caused crashes when returning to the main menu

Have fun!

End of the week hotfix

We are wrapping up this week with a tiny hotfix that helps the HeroForge library handle an error that can occur when multiple players have the same pack.

This works with several small server fixes we pushed today.

More fixes and features coming soon. See you next week!

Patch Notes: Various Fixes

Here is a patch with some fixes related to the HeroForge Release and Unity version update.

Changes:

  • A fix for HF minis with transparency failing to convert. We don't support the feature, but we now handle the lack of the metallic texture
  • Fixed cases where the mouse cursor jumps to seemingly random places when dropping creatures or while placing tiles.
  • Movement speed now scales properly with cursor speed while carrying Creatures
  • Fixed scroll speed in Library
  • Workaround Unity bug causing users to get stuck on the main menu if their computer's name contains non-ASCII characters
  • Fixed case where Creatures could go flying off when being picked up after swapping monitors.

Welcome to the HeroForge Integration Beta

Hi everyone!

Despite the flu's best efforts to stop us, we are finally opening the Beta for the HeroForge integration. You can now take any of your purchased, digital HeroForge minis and bring them into TaleSpire with only a few clicks.

Please check out https://heroforge.talespire.com/ for our video and text guides to this new feature (or see the bottom of this post for the video).

The Beta has the same features as the final release, barring the known issues mentioned below. We are holding off announcing on social media until the community has had the chance to kick the tires. We expect there to be bugs, so please do let us know at https://feedback.talespire.com/ if you find a good one!

Here are some known issues to start us off:

  • HeroForge "packs" are not yet supported. This is being resolved by HeroForge, and we expect to have an update for you about this soon.
  • As a player, you can't track the download progress of other people's minis, so it can feel like the conversion process has hung.
  • Once a mini has been downloaded, the second or two it takes to process is accompanied by low frame rates.
  • Creature ghosts don't update line-of-sight (we are still deciding what the correct behavior should be and how to communicate it well).
  • We have seen one machine where the first HeroForge download takes a long time to start.
  • Machines with lower specs (especially low RAM) can struggle with large numbers of linked minis. This is because HeroForge minis have significantly higher resource requirements than TaleSpire's.
  • In rare cases, a mini that fails to convert doesn't give the option to unlink.

Thanks so much for all your encouragement and patience as we have been building this. The engineering that surrounded this has set us up well to make a bunch more exciting features, and we are stoked to get started on them.

And with that, all there is left to say is, have fun!
