New Big Graphical Update + More!

Hello,

We have released a new update for The Backrooms: Survival! This update introduces many new graphical changes tweaking everything from lighting, shadows, some textures, post-processing effects, and more. Some entities have new and improved animations, and there are many more quality-of-life changes.

We have changed the "default" graphical style, however, you can revert back to the old classic style in the settings, or even choose a third optional "darker" graphical style.


Below are two previews of the old and new style (WITHOUT PSX and VHS effects enabled)

Changes:
-Overhauled the default graphical style
-Added a second graphical style that can be chosen in the options menu which is "darker" if you want a darker ambiance
-Option to choose the old classic style
-Improved lighting. Lights such as lamps and bulbs have better general lighting and are actually lit/glow as lights should and are no longer dull
-Many entities have completely new and smoother animations
-Fixed blueprints not saving in multiplayer bug
-The default view for the negative levels has been turned into a completely crazy visual theme that more reflects the player's sight being deluded. You can turn this off back to the original in the settings with a separate setting. (Note that if you are not a new player and are loading an old save file this feature will be off and will need to be enabled first in settings)
-You can now block with melee weapons using the "zoom/RMB" button to reduce damage from entity or player attacks. You will have to time it as you can of course not block during an attack etc
-Fixed many random "glares" that were present on some scenery textures
-Slightly expanded the forest, graveyard, and snow theme view distance
-Added a new entity: Mimic. This entity can take the appearance of either a small or big chest, but once you get too close will reveal its true form and attack. If defeated, it drops many items, however.
-Added ambient lighting that prevents some walls from being completely black (unlit)
-The default PSX effects are now not as dark and hard to see, while still being PSX era
-Fixed a bug where killed entities can still sometimes play a sound for new players joining a multiplayer game
-Fixed the text for an item you are selling sometimes overlapping off the screen
-Fixed a bug where the damage number for the received damage by the player did not reflect buffs
-Many other much smaller tweaks such as small visual glitches/typos/etc....

New Content Update!

Hello,

We have released a new update! This update adds some new features.

-Selling items to facelings: You can now sell your items to faceling vendors
-New faceling vendor type: Arms dealer. There is a chance for an arms dealer vendor to spawn who sells only weapons and ammo
-Friendly fire setting: PvP can be disabled when creating an online room. This is useful if you just want to play with friends without killing other players. Whether PvP
-Damage numbers dealt and received is now displayed on the right side of the screen. This can be toggled off in the settings.
-You can now drop backcoins and materials. Useful in multiplayer to give these items to other players
-increased max amount of nails in inventory from 30 to 50
-New status effect: Focused. This increases damage dealt by guns
-New item: Adderall. Gives the focused effect for a short time (As this is a pill, the effect is boosted by the pharmacist profession)
-Pharmacist profession now starts with two Adderall
-Achievement for selling item
-Fixed vending machine spawning in the ladder
-Fixed partygoer tables bug causing some to appear clipping walls
-Fixed bug where entities could walk through the igloos
-various smaller fixes/tweaks....

New Content Update!

Hello,

We have released another update today! This update adds some new items, and status effects and fixes many bugs.

Changes:
-Added a new status effect: Bloated. This temporarily stops hunger from being reduced. This can be induced for a short time when consuming food to the max hunger bar.
-Added a new status effect: Hydrated. This temporarily stops thirst from being reduced. This can be induced by consuming water/liquid to max thirst bar.
-vendors can now sell material bags
-Added a new special item: "HNT Backrooms-Carpet flavored crisps". Restores some hunger and auto-induces the bloated effect for longer than normal
-Added a new special item: "Axolotl Water". Fully restores thirst and induces the hydrated effect for longer than normal. Also restores small health and sanity. Rare find.
-Added achievements for consuming both Axolotl water and HNT Crisps
-Fixed lava not damaging in multiplayer
-Only levels you have already discovered (starting from now) will be shown on the main menu preview "demo level" background
-Fixed a bug causing duplicate tables in level FUN which blocks important passages
-Fixed some bugs where some multiplayer crashes could corrupt save files
-Bone armor can now be dismantled
-Fixed a bug where dubious liquids damage effect would damage armor instead of health
-Fixed a bug where you could spam the pickup button in rapid succession to duplicate blueprints, backcoins, or material bags on the ground
-Fixed a bug where standing on a toxic puddle won't damage you until you step off of it
-Fixed a bug where vendors remaining stock was not updating after purchases
-The escape key can now automatically close the vendor window without having to click the exit button for ease of access
-Fixed a bug where you can click and drag the blueprint window into positions it should not be

As usual, there will be another usual update. This next update will also add some additional mechanics such as selling items to facelings, etc.

New Content Update!

Hello,

We have released a new update! This was mainly a Christmas theme update, however unfortunately it was delayed a few days hence the late release after Christmas.

This update turns the "Snow theme" level into a much more festive environment. An entirely new level theme is added, and there are many new entities added all together.

-New level theme: The Pyramid
-Two new exclusive entities for the pyramid theme

Snow level has undergone a "Christmas makeover":
-Snow level has three new entities
-Snow level has new landscape decorations such as snowmen, Christmas trees, etc
-New weapon: Candy Cane. Only spawns in the snow level
-Presents can now also spawn in the snow level
-Added "Santa", although he's not the jolly figure you may be familiar with...

-The knight statues in the castle theme now have a chance to move like the gargoyles
-Fixed a bug with crafting lead ball ammunition putting your gunpowder into the negative amounts
-Fixed a bug where changing quality settings to high will automatically enable shadows even if you had them disabled
-An achievement for killing Santa
-adrenaline shot item is now bigger and sparkles slightly as many found it hard to find due to it being small

New Content Update!

Hello!

We have released another update adding some new content and fixing some bugs. We've added a few new craftable pieces of equipments and fixed some issues.

Changelog:
-Added a new craftable weapon: Wooden Club
-Added a new craftable weapon: Spiked Club
-Added a new craftable weapon: Iron Mace
-Added a new craftable weapon: Bone Club
-Added a new craftable armor: Bone Chestplate
-Melee weapons when they reach 0 durabilities no longer disappear when breaking. This is to prevent you from having to keep an eye on durability constantly. Instead, the weapon enters a "broken" state where it can still be used and held but will deal virtually no damage until repaired.
-Fixed a bug preventing crowbar durability saving on the drop. The crowbar can also now be dismantled-Fixed a bug where dropping a protein bar or adrenaline shot can cause it to drop through the floor
-Fixed a bug preventing moleman from dying
-Added a graphic setting to disable fog VFX such as in the graveyard+toxic factory level as this can affect performance for some
-Reduced the banshee scream noise
-Added a new material: Bone. Can be found or dropped when killing most entities
-Nerfed partygoers: reduced their speed, damage, and health slightly as well as attack rate as they were too OP
-Bleed, burn and poison damage health directly now instead of armor if it is equipped
-Breakable crates can now also have materials inside. Also increased the rates of items inside crates slightly
-Entities can now also drop between 0-3 material bags on death
-Various smaller bug fixes/tweaks (typos, graphical glitches, etc)

Extra content update!

Hello!

An extra update is out now after yesterdays crafting update! Note that the below contains potential spoilers for people who'd rather discover the blueprints themselves and find out what they contain, you may not want to read further.

Added three new armor types. These are craftable only:
-Wooden Chestplate
-Leather Chestplate
-Iron Chestplate

Added four new weapons. These are also craftable only:
-Sawblade Axe
-Crude Hammer
-Crude Hatchet
-Wood Warhammer

Other changes:
-fish tin and pashet tin can now spawn in vending machines
-fixed a bug where trying to pick up a blueprint if you have them all unlocked can cause a freeze
-fixed overlapping text on the crafting menu if the descriptions are too long
-armors now show the durability min and max text on the item description text

New Update - Crafting System!

Hello

In this update, we have been working on something different, a whole new game mechanic - a crafting system! This will allow you to find crafting blueprints and use materials to craft different items.
You can craft items at any time by clicking the "crafting" button on the inventory screen. This will show you all your unlocked blueprints as well as your current materials. Here you'll be able
to craft items provided you have the materials


-Added a material bag item that contains a few random materials. Can be found anywhere
-Added the blueprint item which spawns anywhere and unlocks a blueprint. It is guaranteed to be a new recipe each time
-Unlocked blueprints are permanent and persist between new runs. This is to avoid the hassle of having to unlock them again which would be incredibly tedious, but also now adds another method of progression by unlocking blueprints in your runs
-Added a dismantling system allowing you to dismantle some items to obtain materials
-Materials are stored separately from normal inventory items as to not take up space
-15 material types added
-15 crafting blueprints added
-Achievement for finding a blueprint
-Achievement for finding an item

Now that the basics of the crafting system are finally implemented, we will begin fleshing it out more with more blueprint types, resources, etc.

As always, there will be another update likely sometime next week where we will add more crafting recipes and resources. All players are welcome and encouraged to leave suggestions for new craftables and items.

New Content Update

We have released a new update which is out now! This new update adds some new content such as an armor system, more weapon upgrading, and more ways to spend your Backcoins!

-New armor system: body armor can be found and equipped. his gives you an additional "armor" value that acts like extra health. Damage will be done to the armor in place of health until it reaches 0 where the armor will need to be repaired
-Repair kits can now also repair armor
-Upgraded weapons now do additional damage
-Weapon damage amount is shown on the inventory screen
-Guns can now also be upgraded like melee weapons for additional damage
-Added vending machines. These can spawn randomly in any level and you can use back coins to buy items from them
-Guns and melee weapons can now be upgraded a maximum of TWICE using upgrade kits to give them two-star ranking (additional durability and/or damage)
-Fixed a bug where durability for weapons was sometimes not saving and loading
-You will no longer get the same theme twice in a row in a multiplayer game. This prevents repeated levels
-Added the first armor item - Tactical Vest
-vendor can also stock tactical vests. It can also be found on the ground like a rare item
-Added an achievement for equipping armor
-Added an achievement for using a vending machine
-Fixed the backpack position being buggy in multiplayer (low on the floor)
-Fixed a bug where the chandelier in the castle theme can float above the ladder

New Content Update!

Hello!

We have released a new content update adding a new level, entity, and two new weapons, as well as a few bug fixes!

Full changelog:
-Added a new "Graveyard" style level theme
-Added a new entity
-Added a shovel weapon (also more common in the graveyard)
-Added a nail gun weapon. Fires nails, and can hold up to 10 in the "magazine" at a time. Weaker than normal guns. Makes barely any noise to alert entities when firing.
-Added nail box item which can be found and contains 15 nails
-Added single nail item
-Achievement for finding nailgun
-Faceling vendor can sell nailgun now
-Fixed protein bar not dropping
-Fixed bug where the lead pipe was held like a gun
-Players are invincible for about a third of a second after taking damage - this is to help prevent damage spam bugs from enemies
-Fixed loading game not saving the voice selected
-Fixed bug where weapon durability was not saved on dropping the item
-Fixed a bug where the weapon upgrade perk was not saved on dropping an item
-Fixed adrenaline shot unable to drop
-Various smaller fixes/tweaks/typos/etc...
