0.10 is Coming Tomorrow!
Greetings, Survivors!
Finally, here we are - the long-awaited 0.10 update is just around the corner.
This update focuses on some of the most requested features and improvements, so let’s dive a bit deeper into what 0.10 actually includes:
Controller Support
Finally, you’ll be able to play through all of The Wild Eight with your gamepad! Some even say that the game is more comfortable to play with a controller - why not give it a go?
New Interface
To make sure the game is fully playable with a controller, we’ve given both the main menu and in-game HUD a major overhaul! It’s more practical than the previous version for multiple reasons - just as an example, the game now has a Mini-Map! The new style also gives the game a new, “fancy” feel, which we hope you’ll enjoy.
Changes To Game Session Structure
We’ve decided to give players more freedom in regards to how they want to experience The Wild Eight. Starting from 0.10, you won’t have to choose between “Single-player” and “Multiplayer” every time you start a server - now, you’ll be able to change between those modes right from the Pause menu!
Had a fun time exploring Alaska on your own, and want your friends to join? That’s great! Got really far in a public game, and want to play alone, while keeping the character’s experience and items? No problem!
Network Optimization
Last, but certainly not least! As we’ve mentioned in the posts above, at a certain point in development we realized that our network solution had to be re-designed - and it took a lot of work, but we did just that!
No more of that pesky de-synchronization, no servers dropping for no apparent reason, and finally - 8 people can play the game on the same server without any netcode issues! (Hopefully.) So, we’re excited for you to give it a go and tell us your opinion! Please Note - there still may be some kinks to figure out with the new netcode, so please be patient - it will get perfected over time.
Please Note
Due to significant changes in the game’s architecture, the support for previous versions’ save files is now limited. Saves from 0.9 will be converted, and all of your progress will be brought over to the new version! Save files made on older versions (0.8 or below) will, unfortunately, not be available for use.
All of this, along with multiple bug fixes and balance changes, will be available on December 19th, 6 PM GMT / 12 PM CST / 1 PM EST - when the 0.10 Update becomes available!
P.S. You can try out a Beta version of the 0.10 Update right now! See this post for more details on how to join the Early Survivors, and try out the new features for yourself!
Join 0.10 Beta (Network rework, Controller support, new UI)
Hey survivors!
As all of you already remember, we’ve been working on the network rework, UI changes, Controller support and other enhancements.
Before this patch can go live for everyone we have to test the network performance and other new features. That’s why we need your help! We’re inviting those who already owns the game to participate in 0.10 beta testing.
How can I access Beta?
To access it you have to right click on The Wild Eight in your list of games, select Properties, choose "Betas" and input a beta code WildEightBeta10. After that you should be able to select “0.10 Network Rework” in your beta list and wait for the game to update.
Where can I share my impressions on the Beta?

After you’ll try out the 0.10 Beta version of the game, we would really appreciate if you could participate in the survey. Development Blog: Upcoming changes
Hey survivors!
Today we would like to take a moment to share some details on what the development team is working on right now and what will happen with The Wild Eight this Fall.
We’re currently preparing a very important update for The Wild Eight. This very update was the reason why we kept silent for the last couple of months. Our goal is to improve the player experience and bring lots of new features to the game in the future.
Network improvements
Lately we’ve been revamping our network system to provide smooth and stable performance. We completely changed the structure of the multiplayer by introducing a new, more streamlined networking system. For the sole purpose of bringing you the best multiplayer experience we’ve created a whole new network architecture.
The host machine will now give permissions to the client machines and manage the synchronization. Previously the world logic was running on both host and client PCs. This caused lots of issues including actions leading to different results on client PCs. The new approach will also help reduce server load and in general has proven itself to be way more stable.
Moreover, our new system will allow players to switch back and forth between singleplayer and multiplayer anytime. So The Wild Eight will have fully functioning Drop-In-Drop-Out Multiplayer. Therefore, you can invite your friends to the game you started solo or just continue playing on your own using the same session you had with your friends.
UI rework and controller support
You asked, we listened - UI will also be receiving a major visual update! We’ll be adding a mini-map that should help you navigate the world more easily. We also didn’t forget about the general map - it also receives some visual and mechanical improvements. Other UI elements will get enhancements here and there as well for a better experience.
Moreover, we’re not only working on the visual improvements, but also adding the long-awaited full controller support. And we must say that The Wild Eight feels just right when played with a gamepad.
New content
We’re also very excited to introduce all the new content we’ve been preparing. The content update is coming in a bit after the performance one.
Get ready for a new adventure with a new Quest we worked on lately. The Quest takes place in the new location - Alaska Visitor Center. Are there any survivors hiding inside? Why does this place feel so gloomy? Discover the secrets of this mysterious place.
Of course, lots of other additions are on it’s way so we guarantee that you’ll have fun exploring everything we worked on.
Recent update summary
In the previous several updates we’ve added quite a bit of new stuff to the game. For those who missed out on the game during the summer we will give a brief overview. We’ve added a player revival for the multiplayer mode, blueprint system and snow piles. Of course, we didn’t forget to add new content like new weapons, items, side quests. Besides that we fixed lots and lots of bugs and introduced a new improved pathfinding system.
We hope you’re as excited about the upcoming changes as we’re! Stay tuned for more updates, we’ll make sure to come back with some content to show soon.
