Today we want to share some details on what the development team is working right now and what will happen with The Wild Eight in the nearest future.
In January we decided to take the plunge and rework the netcode from the ground up. It takes almost all of time of our engineers and they need around a month to implement it into the game.
Does the game really need it? Absolutely! It will fix most connection and desync problems we’re having, and will also let us add new game mechanics and content way easier.
Why wasn’t it done right from the beginning? There are a number of reasons: for original developers it was a first big game project and weak points were unavoidable. Also requirements to the system have been changing during the development, which also led to the increasing complexity of the architecture. Now, with a more experienced team and stable core mechanics, there is no doubt that new netcode is what the game needs.
We will keep you informed about all progress that’s been made. It will take some time, however - and we implore you to be patient. Thanks!
0.8.52 — Fox, Reworked “Dark Matter” and Map Update
Greetings from The Wild Eight Development Team! Below are the patch notes for version 0.8.52
Additions:
Foxes are now added to the world of The Wild Eight. Hunt a Fox for a chance to get its tail, which can be used to craft a Fox Hat.
Other players, represented by icons, can now be seen on the Map.
Added the ability to invite other players into the game from lobby.
Changes:
“Dark Matter” side-quest reworked.
Lowered health and hunger meter regeneration rates on several food items.
Fixed an issue, where instead of equipping all Throwing Stones in a single stack, player would only equip one.
You can now activate Hydra-1 Radio Tower with a single click, instead of two - if you’ve acquired both a Generator and a Key Card.
Fixes:
Changes to networking, which caused de-synchronization between players
Fixed an issue with some of the quest-related items not displaying properly.
Fixed an issue where “Garden Salad” healed 15 health points a second instead of intended 1.5 points.
Fixed an issue where the player would receive additional damage after dying from a fall, and therefore dying again after respawn.
Fixed an issue where a non-equipped weapon remained in player’s inventory after his death.
Fixed an issue in “Home, Sweet Home” side-quest, where a key-card dropped by a mutant could get stuck in the wall.
If the furnace is extinguished during the smelting process, the player now receives the intended 60 Ore instead of 1.
Ammo picked up from the ground is now automatically equipped.
Changed stamina rates for the Power Attack.
Removed the ability to fix the broken bridge after finishing the main quest line.
Changes to the Blizzard event - now it spawns no more than once a day.
Fixed an issue where the player was not able to pick the Sledge back up after removing it from his inventory.
Fixed an issue where a player would re-acquire all of the Decipher Keys for “The Door” quest after restarting the game.

v0.8.26 - major bugfix and something more
Hi, survivors!
In two latest updates we finally fixed that nasty bug some of you have experienced in mutiplayer. Looks like now The Wild Eight is more stable than ever before, isn't it? ^_^
Also I'm here to ask you about a small experimental visual effect in Lock On Mode which we have added. Do you enjoy this vignette effect? Should we return as it was? Let us know in the comments section down below.
P. S.
Just before Christmas we're coming with some great new content! So stay tuned and prepare your friends for a holiday run in The Wild Eight!
The Wild Eight 0.8 is here!
With the new and improved Battle System, the combat is now more responsive and fluid than ever before!
You’re able to charge your attack to do massive damage to whatever stands in your way! Moving freely while charging your Power Attack allows for a more tactical approach to hunting.
You can now throw any equipped weapon - which is really useful for dealing damage to your opponents from a distance. Furthermore, you can now lock onto enemies during combat, which improves your general aim.
We’ve also added a few improvements to the way you use throws - for example, RMB no longer acts as a dedicated throwing button. You still can throw items out of your inventory with the T button, so you’ll be able to share resources (or hit your friend in the face with some human meat) any time you want.
Along with an updated Battle System, 0.8 features minor quality-of-life improvements and general bug fixes. The full list can be seen below:
New Features:
Added Power Attack
Added the ability to throw equipped weapon
Added Lock-on
Players are now able to fully rebind keyboard controls
Picked up weapons are now automatically equipped into an empty slot
Changes:
Throwing Stones now work differently - they act as an equippable item and can now be used in melee combat as well
Changed the way player throws items out of inventory - which is now done with the T button
Flare gun radius increased - it now opens twice as many tiles on the map
A tamed animal no longer gets hungrier while the player’s off the main map (in a bunker/cavern/other special location)
Fixes:
Fixed a resource gathering issue that caused Vivian to gather less resources
Fixed a bug where quest items would reappear after a player has re-joined the server
Fixed a bug that allowed players to use regeneration seats without opening the Rec Room door
Fixed a bug which caused items to float in air after a player’s death
Fixed a bug which caused an in-game item to not disappear from the map on pick up
We hope you enjoy checking out the new update, while we continue working on The Wild Eight and enhancing the player experience. Check back for more details real soon!
If you played The Wild Eight enough to know if you would recommend it, we'd love for you to leave a quick review. Cheers!
The Wild Eight development team is hard at work on improving the game experience, as well as adding new features and slowly, but surely bringing the game closer to its final state. Like the game? Have any feedback on ways how to improve our game? Be sure to leave a quick review, which will greatly help us make a better game. Cheers!
Battle Update Is Coming December 11
Hey there, Survivors! We’ve got a few surprises to hold you over on these cold and wintry nights - some fresh, red-hot details about the Battle Update, coming to The Wild Eight on December 11!
Tired of chasing down animals, only to hit them once as you watch them run away? Killing boars with sticks and stones is too boring and takes too much time? No more!
In The Wild Eight 0.8, you’ll be able to charge your attack to do massive damage to whatever (or whoever) stands in your way! This type of attack depletes a part of your stamina, though - so be careful not to miss too much, or you’ll be too winded to pursue your target.
You’ll also be able to move freely while charging your Power Attack, which allows for a more tactical approach for hunting - sneaking up on animals with your attack fully charged is just one of the ways you can use this new move to your advantage.
Be aware that Charge Attack won’t work without a weapon - how would you even charge your fists, anyway?
The frozen wilds of Alaska seldom often brief respite - but our players again and again found ways to entertain themselves along the way. Throwing items into enemies, as well as fellow players, was just one of them - and we liked that concept so much, we decided to expand on it.
Now, you’re able to throw any weapon you have equipped - which is really useful for dealing damage to your opponents from a distance. That deer won’t run away from you now!
We’ve also added a few improvements to the way you use throws - for example, RMB no longer acts as a dedicated throwing button. The reason for it - one of the issues we’ve seen throughout countless letsplays and streams of The Wild Eight is that players would throw something out of their inventory on accident.
You still can throw items out of your inventory with the T button, so you’ll be able to share resources (or hit your friend in the face with some human meat) any time you want.
As a part of us preparing for finally enabling full Controller Support for the game (which is coming sooner rather than later), we’ve added an ability to lock onto your opponents during combat.
If you’re locked onto your enemy, your character will continue to face him - this way, hitting enemies from a distance will now be a bit easier. Time your throws wisely - animals are constantly on the move, so Lock On won’t guarantee a successful hit.
Also, throwing and shooting from higher ground works much better with lock-on, so be sure to use it when you want to attack someone from a distance while standing on a steep hill.
The 0.8 Update will come out this Monday, but you already can start preparing for it - with the new control layout, which can be seen below:
There’s one more point we have to address - yes, we're absolutely aware that the update is coming a bit behind schedule - and we'll be sure to address this in the next post, which will be right after 0.8's release.
Thank you for patience and good luck in severe lands of Alaska!
