Touhou: Lost Branch of Legend
v1.3.13 Minor Update
8/20 v1.3.13 Minor Update
Implemented animations for Youmu Konpaku.
Tree-Ocean of Hourai damage decreased: 9/10→8/9. Lunatic Dream damage increased: 5/7→6/9. Broken Timeline no longer affects mana given on the next turn via card effects, e.g. from Summer Ice. Letty, Winter Embodied, while under the effects of Mental Energy Injection, can apply Cold multiple times even with only 1 Unity remaining.
Some cards now have details explained on the box on the upper right, right above the keywords. This is to prevent card text from becoming too lengthy, and to explain details that couldn't be included otherwise. Examples: Shikigami Protection cannot produce cards with a total cost of 6 or more,Yukari, Boundary of Fantasy cannot produce itself from its Ultimate Skill.
New Jade Box option : Full Power. Start with both of the character's starting Exhibits, and the fifth mana in the mana base is changed to Philosopher's Mana.
Once Lunatic difficulty has been cleared once, all other characters can now play on Hard difficulty (previously you had to complete Normal difficulty for each character)
Fixed a bug introduced in v1.3.11 where the game would be stuck on a black screen when changing languages during gameplay.
Early Access 1st Anniversary
Early Access 1st Anniversary Announcement
It's been one year since Touhou: Lost Branch of Legend first launched in early access. We are thankful for your love towards the game and feedback from the EA experience!
Until now, I've been using Steam announcements for announcing updates and changes to the game. For the Anniversarry, I'd like to explain future plans for LBoL from a a more holistic perspective.
Playable Characters
Koishi Komeiji and Alice Margatroid are confirmed to be in production!
Koishi can switch between three different Mental States, with cards having different effects depending on her current state. Mental State preferences will vary based on her Mana and cards obtained.
Alice uses her dolls to assist her in combat each with various effects, both passive and triggered. She can enhance her dolls' stamina, use them as spell-casting resources, detonate them, or use them to enhance certain card effects.
Of course, there's no way to tell if the above design will end up as the final one for them, based on our experience developing the previous four characters. Based on how long it took for Cirno to release, we expect one of them to be complete by the next anniversarry. We're not sure which character will be released first.
Enemies
We don't expect to add any new enemies at this point. Some existing enemies will be reworked or adjusted, e.g. Hata no Kokoro.
We plan to have every enemy character animated by the time of the full release. This is why it's difficult for us to add further enemies currently, especially named Touhou Characters. The only exception would be secret final bosses, we would consider adding one or two among Yukari Yakumo, Kaguya Houraisan and Watatsuki no Yorihime if we have good ideas for them.
Events
6-10 more events are planned to be added!
After the Hecatia T-Shirt event was finished, our previous event illustrator, 尼特蠕动人, is no longer available for illustrations with such degree of completion. It was thanks to their event illustrations that we've set such an upbeat tone for the game(A more tongue in cheek story like my personal favorite series, "Ranma 1/2") We will commission other artists to fill their shoes for those new events.
Miscellaneous
We plan to implement lifetime stats and the achievement system in the near future.
Other frequently asked questions:
1.Versions on other platforms, especially Nintendo Switch A major problem we're facing is that LBoL has a complex interface not designed for gamepads in mind (such how is one supposed to seperate mana on the bottom left with pad controls) Overcoming this problem will take time and isn't a priority at this time. Once we'll figure out a solution, we'll proceed with a Switch release.
2. Steam Workshop An extension to the above question. Apart from requiring more development time, there's also more questions to be answered: How do mod authors mod danmakus, for example? In addition, we're not sure if the game has sold enough to warrant such mod support. Only after the game has developed a solid enough playerbase may we consider having official Workshop support. Of course, we don't object to mods being made and distributed privately at all. In fact, there's people making and talking about mods and right now on Discord.
When I started development on LBoL back in early 2018, I didn't expect competition between the various StS-likes to be so fierce. For this reason we had to be more innovative than just Slay The Spire under a Touhou coat of paint (though even that would have been hard on its own). Many fellow developers have to ask this question: What makes your game differentt from StS? My answer would be the colored mana system, how cards are distributed between colors, and the various strategies each color can provide. That's definitely interesting so far, but it seems to turn off more casual players due to its complexity.
All in all, we're proud that we've been able to release Touhou: Lost Branch of Legend. However, the game's sales/development cost ratio is still less than ideal, and a few of our contributors had to find other ways to make ends meet. Huge thanks to their contributions all along.
Let's end things on a more positive note. Developing this game has been enjoyable, and we've made more friends along the way. After the game launch, fans from across the globe have provided high quality translations of various languages voluntarily, which reminded me of the internet in the 2010s and the Touhou fanart community in general. Tha alone fills me with enough enthusiasm to keep on working!
Till we meet again in the next major udpate!

v1.3.12 Minor Update
8/6 v1.3.12 Minor Update
New Card Art: "Deflation World"
Yin-Yang Confluence now provides 4 Barrier for each card Exiled by its effect to its resulting Yin-Yang Orb on upgrade instead of increasing the damage per Exile from 4 to 8. Craft Potion now gains "Debut: Draw one more card" on upgrade. Flammable Laser's Overdrive and upgrade effect now deals 12 damage twice and applies 1 Vulnerable (previously dealt 18 damage once) Product of Failure now adds 2 Shadows to the hand on upgrade. Sin of the Black Horse's life loss reduced to 1 on the base version.
Added new black/green neutral cards: "Dubious Tea Party", "Bucket Apparition" Luminescent Night cost increased: BG→1BG, output increased to compensate. Grudge Returning is now Accurate, upgrade no longer affects its cost.
Regular Update: New Request and Card Rebalance
Card Rebalance
Made the cards in the starter decks more personalized (e.g. Youkai Buster now applies 1 Weak) Buffed some less used cards
Exhibit Availability
Some exhibits would be useless for the current library (e.g. Lunatic Gun without cards that discard from the hand). As of this patch, they should only appear if there's a card in the library that can activate their effects.
Some exhibits are not as useful when acquired later in the run, making them wasted drops. As of this patch, such exhibits will stop appearing past a certain point (e.g Treasure Ship Model will stop appearing after Act 3, Level 5)
New Requests
This Request revamp is aimed primarly towards experienced players who don't find the base game challenging enough. If you're just getting started with Lost Branch of Legend, there's no need to concern yourself with these. Apart from "Eviction Order", the original 7 Requests were merged, leaving 4 older Requests.
New Requests: 5: Old Battery. The maximum Spell Card capacity is reduced by 1. 6: Training At A Price. Upgrading non-Basic cards at Gaps costs 25 gold. 7: Nighttiime Fatigue.、At the start of combat, add a "Long Night" card to the hand.
These "Long Night" cards increase the cost of cards in the hand, similar to "Mana Freeze"。 Every new act brings a stronger "Long Night" card to deal with.
Shop
The shop's Card Removal Service has been revamped into a Card Upgrade/Removal Service. Only one of either Upgrade or Removal may be used in a given shop. Upgrading cards at shops has a fixed cost of 50 Gold. Removing cards at shops has an initial cost of 50 Gold and each use increases the cost in subsequent shops by 25, up to a maximum of 100.
Fixed an issue in which items were more expensive than intended.
Miscellaneous
Added a new three=colored teammate card "Yukari, Boundary of Fantasy"
Updates to card art & graphical effects. Updates to status effect icons and attack animations Localization updates.
The game has been updated from 1.3.8 to 1.3.11。 For more details on the changes, check minor update changelogs from patches from 1.3.9 to 1.3.11.
Huge Spoon will no longer appear starting from Act 3, Level 10.
Dream Catcher reworked: now removes a card, gives 10 life and 30 Power

Upgrading cards at shops has a fixed cost of 50 Gold. Removing cards at shops has an initial cost of 50 Gold and each use increases the cost in subsequent shops by 25, up to a maximum of 100.
8/1
The implentation of shop price ranges had a problem in which items would cost more than expected. This has been fixed. The original price range was intended to be 95%-105%, but was implemented as 100%-110%. The earlier update intended to change this to 92%-100%, which became 100%-108.。 The current price range is now the intended 92%-100%。
v1.3.10 had a change in the requests ID, which caused previously saved runs to be discarded. This patch should not affect the requests and will likely not affect runs in progress from the previous update. Localization updates. Graphical effect updates.

This update needed a version change as the run IDs for the Requests had to be updated. The previous run data had to be discarded as result.
Happy resolving!
Miscellaneous:
Added a new three colored neutral card:"Yukari, Boundary of Fantasy"。 Boundary of Life and Death now does 2 hits, overall damage increased:15/20→8x2/12x2。 Added effects to Lovesick Girl to better indicate her damage reduction
