Villagers and Heroes

Patch Notes 3.21.2

Hello, Spooky Town! That's right, it's that time of year again, and we've got some really fun Halloween stuff for you all! Broomsticks, spiders, toys, outfits, less random luck and more!

Improvements
<*>Spooky Town has arrived! New toys, a new outfit, and a mount in the event. Also as stated before, this event relies a lot less on luck. Several of the mechanics in the event zone guarantee (or at least give you a very high success chance) at some progress.
<*>New zone map for Spooky Town.
<*>Added a feature that broadcasts a server message to alert players that an event boss has spawned (e.g. Spooky Druda). This way all players will know and have time to make it to the required area for the attack. (Note: because incarnations are special spawns, they will not broadcast a server message, but still broadcast a zone wide message for those already in Spooky Town).
<*>We have added a Fallen Heroes memorial in Ardent City.
<*>We have made some under the hood efficiency changes that should help the game run generally smoother, particularly when a lot of players are in the same zone, and even more particularly when a lot of players are all engaged with the same elder boss (like event zones).
Bug Fixes
<*>Fixed it so the Zingara Bloodhunter does damage.
<*>Fixed: When mounting the Steed of the Sands, the message would display a mounted speed that was too high.
<*>Fixed the Golden Bridle tooltip to correctly say 20% instead of 185%.
<*>Fixed a tooltip that mentioned inaccurate default speed.
<*>Fixed some bad quest tracking in the quest "Meds for Mutants"
<*>Fixed it so lower level monsters that don't drop monster parts no longer say they do in their tooltips.
<*>Populate our Public Google Drive for the Android Launch
<*>Fixed: player name tag was not being raised when mounted.
<*>Minor: clicking on a feat would sometimes play two click sounds.
<*>Fixed: it was possible to get multiple copies of the same appearance to show up in gnogmentation.
<*>Fixed a bug where it would sometimes show "Tempest of the Roc Damage"
<*>Fogging issue for multilayered materials in basic lighting
<*>Fixed an issue where relic shards would say you could buy them for Red Doubloons.
<*>Removed the "Earn More Crowns" button.
Patch Notes 3.20.13

This is a follow-up, fix-it build to the last patch. We've also made some significant changes to the drop rates in the Equinox event zone.

Improvements
<*>Equinox Changes
<*>The chance of finding wings from a Pharaoh's chest: 1% -> 6%
<*>The chance of finding wings from a Caliph's chest: 0.4% -> 7%
<*>The chance of finding a Djinn Fairy Lamp in a Sand Darrig's chest: 0.5% -> 1.5%
<*>The chance of finding relic shards in a Darrig chest has remained the same, but when you do find them, you find more.
<*>Important note: We have heard and read lots of feedback about Equinox. Players do not like pure random luck! Let it be heard, let it be done! Spooky Town (and future event zones) will not rely on these luck mechanics (there may still be little luck mechanics here and there, but it won't be in this quantity or severity).
<*>Warrior Feat Icons: Phoenix Strike and Whirlwind were updated to better convey their meanings
Bug Fixes
<*>Fixed a bug that was causing bountiful watering pitchers to be sold for 1c. After this patch goes live, bountiful watering pitchers that were obtained via this bug will be deleted from player inventories.
<*>Fixed: when using a ranged feat to target and attack an enemy, character would run towards the enemy. Character now only runs to get into range required by the feat, no closer.
<*>Note that fixing this required reverting another fix, where using a feat with no spirit left would turn off auto-attack.
<*>Fixed: doors would snap closed the moment they were opened.
<*>Fixed: jumping with Gnomish Jumping Boots stopped playing a flip animation due to a bug.
<*>Fixed: issues with chat tabs and party pane becoming messed up.
<*>Some players reported an error with the boss Zagreb. Turns out all these years he has been bugged, making him very easy. This recent patch actually fixed this bug, so he suddenly is very hard (as he was always intended to be). However since he is no longer a main elder boss, we lowered some of the mechanics that are now making him slightly too powerful.
<*>Fixed a bug where common level 1 gathering items could be found in the event zone.
<*>Fixed a bug where NPCs in the event zone were saying incorrect things about the outfits they were wearing.
Patch 3.20.10

What is that strange sound? Could it be...the whinny of a horse? It is!!!

Mounts have, at long last, galloped into Villagers & Heroes! And they brought Equinox with them! And countless bug fixes! And a slew of other exciting new features and improvements to the game!

Happy Last Days of Summer, Everyone! We hope you will all enjoy this hefty build. :)

Improvements
<*>New players now move 20% faster on foot.
<*>We have finally added Mounts! Players will now have the ability to access ride-able mounts. Mounts are special animals that can be ridden as a form of incredibly fast transportation, not to mention they look rather cool and are just plain fun to ride!
<*>All mounts come with a default move speed of 165%. This will set a players move speed to 165%, it cannot be boosted by any current in game effects.
<*>All mounts are permanent unlocks. The mount 'item' is a consumable, that once used will add that mount to your collection which will make it accessible forever.
<*>Mounts are character bound. Once unlocked, only that specific character will have access to the mount.
<*>Mounts can only be ridden while not in combat.
<*> The Golden Bridle: This is a new shop item that will boost mounted speed to 185%. This item is a consumable, that once used will be character bound, lasts forever, and increases the speed on any mount you choose to ride. The Golden Bridle will be priced at 500 crowns.
<*>There are five unique mounts:
<*>The Grey Steed: 175 crowns
<*>The Bay Horse: 225 crowns
<*>The Nightmare: 350 crowns
<*>The Grey Wolf: 350 crowns
<*>The White Stallion: Can be found in Chests of the Red Darrig.

<*>Equinox Has Arrived! The blazing sands of The Oases of Anuk ' Amon, a special event zone for players of any level where delicious challenges, fantastic rewards, and much camaraderie abound, has descended upon The Seven Realms!
<*>All players have the opportunity to earn a special Equinox mount - 'The Sand Stallion!'
<*>All players have the opportunity to earn the exotic new outfit, 'Arabian Knight!'
<*>All players have the opportunity to earn six new Equinox-only outfit accessories!
<*> We have made some exciting new changes to Gilly's Tunnel and Summer's Hollow -- A new combat hot spot! A completely re-designed portion of the zone! Less talk, more action, and a much smoother flow to the starter quests in general!
<*>Dialogue has been shortened, some npc's have been re-located or removed altogether, and some quest goals have also been removed.
<*>The 'backstage area' of the theater has had a cosmetic makeover, and you'll also find some lively new action there! (Beware of Crazed Actors.)
<*>We have added a new version of gardening water to the item shop: 'The Ancient Zharim Pitcher!' This very special magical item will water your entire garden in a single action at the rate of Zharim water. There is also the "Bountiful Watering Pitcher" which waters the entire garden at the normal watering rate. It can be found from lucky cards, daily login bonuses, or Red Darrig Chests.
<*>We've added new versions of Elixirs of Nurturing that have a 15 minute duration instead of 1 hour.
<*>We fixed some issues with lucky potions, and lucky finds in general. There was some confusion in how the information was displayed to the player regarding the stat of "Mega Loot" which was not fully accurate. We have cleaned this up so it is accurate, as well as made a few other improvements. Players may notice their Mega Loot chance appearing to drop in the stat window, but it in fact is now just being displayed correctly, whereas before it was not.
<*>In addition to the changes in the system, we have also boosted the effectiveness of the item store item, "Elixir of Luck" by about 2.3x.
<*>We have added new 'Social Boosters.' These items will boost you, and every single player within range of you, whether that be 2 people, or 100. There is both a hero version, and a villager version. Each type gives a variety of bonuses, including XP gains, armor, damage, lucky find, supply find, and more. Each item can be used one time, will last for 20 minutes, and cost 60 crowns.
<*>We removed rare supplies from Gambling chests. We have added: Crystal of the Benevolent Hero, Crystal of the Benevolent Villager, Bountiful Watering Pitcher, and Ancient Zharim Pitcher.
<*>We have made it so the quantity of Red Doubloons found is much greater if you find them in a chest.
<*>If the game detects severe internet problems (for example, extremely long latencies or high packet loss rates), an icon will be shown prompting the player to check their connection.
<*>Improved Sounds:
<*>Improved sounds for humans in the game, including male and female, player and not player.
<*>Made it so that during combat, the grunts and pains don't play quite as often.
<*>We made it so enemy alerts play on target player only. This will make it so players hear the sound when they are suppose to, and know when they are under attack.
<*>Monsters who are NPCs now play a sound matching their race
<*>Vendors now verbally greet the player
<*>Special offers for new characters are now supported on PC! (Class Upgrade offers which contain a variety of boosts and unique outfits)

Liches now just cast fire spells and die when you kill them. We also fixed some animation glitches that made the liches look funny, as well as a floating sword hovering beneath them. All of these fixes combine should make it so Liches don't go Aegis all the time.

<*>We updated several spell, feat, and talent icons across all classes (updating older icons and removing a few of the more graphic icons).
<*>We made some changes to a few movement speed modifiers to balance with mounts:
<*>Elixirs of Speed (Item Shop): removed from the shop, lucky cards, daily login bonus, and Chests of the Red Darrig. Players will still keep whatever they have however the item will remain unchanged.

Patch 3.18.9

Patch 3.18.9

Hi, Everyone. This is a fix-it build, with a few big improvements as well.

Improvements
<*>Huge COG Improvements.
<*>Players can now directly sell unwanted supplies to the COG vendor in exchange for coins. This means you can sell quickly, and in any increment amounts you want!
<*>Players now get 1 single supply crate from a distributor that has everything they need. There was a slight game play change with that in that you now get supplies per skill equal to your highest gathering skill (where before each skill gave you a smaller amount depending on its own level).
<*>This makes the entire process make COG only 2 NPCs, and should be much easier to interact with!
<*>Bag space and vault space expansions are no longer bound to a specific bag or vault number. Instead, using an expansion will open up the next locked space.
<*> For example, if you have bags 1 - 3 unlocked and bags 4 - 6 locked, and you use two Extra Bag Spaces, the first will unlock bag 4 and the second will unlock bag 5.
<*> All bag and vault space expansions acquired before this build behave exactly as before, and are still bound to a specific bag or vault number.
<*>We removed all fireworks from the lucky card game, added the new 2 hour experience potions, but increased the time it takes to get a free spin at lucky cards from 1 day to 3 days.

Bug Fixes

<*>Fixed the article from 'a' to 'an' on enormous fish
<*>Fixed some weird fishing spots in Traven
<*>Fixed some invisible fishing spots in Elk Meadow
<*>Fixed a bug where Guard Ian would run into walls in the Castle.
<*>Fixed a bug that was allowing Rotburga's summoned minions to spawn elsewhere in the zone as normal mobs.
<*>Fixed it so Maiden bees drop bee stingers again if the player is on the quest "Jewel-Studded Bee Stinger Collar"
<*>Made it so a player could opt out of getting Demelza enchantment right away
<*>Fixed some charters that mentioned old fish recipes.
<*>Fixed a sign that should have read "Bearhold Crypt"
<*>Eternal coal can now be stacked.

The Saving Private Otter Event!

Hello, Everyone! It’s that time of year again! The Saving Private Otter event is back and raring to go!

 • EU 1: Saturday, July 2 at 7pm UK time/ 6pm GMT

 • US 2: Saturday, July 2 at 4pm PDT/ 7pm EDT

 • EU 2: Sunday, July 3 at 7pm CEST

 • US 1: Sunday, July 3 at 4pm PDT/ 7pm EDT

*All participants, please meet in the throne room of Ardent Castle 15 minutes prior to the event.

So what exactly does the event entail? Teamwork, speed, savviness, and a little bit of luck!

Private Otter is a level 10 warrior, with no buffs or enchantments, has absolutely terrible gear, and is rather clueless when it comes to combat and exploration. He is stranded in various locations throughout the land, and needs to get back home to the Twilight Vale. He also needs to acquire certain specific items on his journey, go up a minimum of two levels, and defeat the first fairy on the ladder in the Vale, all within one hour.

Players will be divided into teams. Each team will be assigned a cluster of four specific zones. A Private Otter will be waiting for each team in the designated zone. Private Otter will supply his team with a list of the items which must be retrieved, as well as the list of specific zones to be traveled through to acquire the items. No teleporting. Private Otter must run through each of the four zones.

Private Otter has one Voltan Resurrect, and one travel rune. When a team is ready to return to the Vale to complete the last step of the contest, they may teleport to Ardent City. (Private Otter will already have that pad opened.)

Private Otter will not accept buffs or boosts of any kind from his teammates. Each team needs to acquire the specific items, and give them to their Private Otter during the journey. Afterwards, the Private Otters will take screenshots of their inventory as proof that all items have been acquired.

In the event of a tie, the Private Otter with the most xp gained will be deemed the winner. If, after one hour, no team has reached the Vale, the contest will continue until a team arrives.

So, to recap, the winning team must be the first to:

 • Run through the four assigned zones
 • Acquire all of the items specified on their list
 • Raise Private Otter up 2 levels
 • Defeat Turenia in the Vale

We will be organizing the teams in advance. So if you would like to participate in the event, please post on our forums here: https://forum.villagersandheroes.com/editpost.php?do=updatepost&postid=131148 Or, let any in-game moderator on your server know at least 24 hours before the event, preferably well before that! Additionally, please include your class and level, so we can organize the teams as fairly as possible.

Prizes!

All members on a winning team will receive the following prize packages:

 • First Place: 200 crowns + Midsummer Eclipse Outfit Gnogpack + Enchanted Fairy Dust + 2 sockets
 • Second Place: 125 crowns + Enchanted Fairy Dust + one socket
 • Third Place: 100 crowns + Enchanted Fairy Dust

All other participants will receive 6 Tears of Vesesia.

Have fun, and good luck!

Patch 3.17.7

Hello, Everyone! We have a large and exciting build for you all! In addition to a great many bug fixes, we have also done a complete overhaul to the monster parts system in the game, added new story content to the lower levels, and, last but not least, have added the Midsummer's special event zone, The Twilight Vale. Enjoy! :)

The Midsummer's Event Returns! Featuring:
<*>The return of the Twlight Vale, and special event zone where all players are equalized to the same level.
<*>9 brand new event quests, plus quests from last year, and 2 dailies, a total of 13! (lots to do!)
<*>The bounty ladder returns against the council of the five fae!
<*>16 outfits IN the event, with 6 of the outfits being brand new!
<*>A new rare boss that spawns in the vale
<*>Various treats and goodies to help you in your adventures!
<*>Ardent City put up its midsummer lights, and set up their firework system
<*>Special Note: Some of the new quests and tasks in the event may be very difficult for certain players. This was intentional as these quests give players the chance at earning amazing new outfits. Players can choose what outfit they wish to pursue, or maybe have a friend help them and get a few. What you do is up to you!
New Story Content Added For Levels 10 - 15
<*>This is the first of a three part story line segment, so think of it as 'Part One.' It picks up right where the Malicious Miscreant quest left off - in Ardent Castle, speaking to Lady Philippa. (In order to start the quest a player needs to have either finished the 'Malicious Miscreant' quest line, or be a minimum level of 10)
<*>Several zones have had visual make-overs
<*>Addicts Ascent has been completely re-done
<*>Bearhold Valley has been much enhanced (pssst! check out the bear, too!)
<*>Bearhold Crypt is greatly improved
<*>Memorial Pond, Lady's Lake, Kingsport, and Elk Meadow have all had alterations made
<*>Ardent Castle has a new chamber

Monster Parts System Improvements
<*>All existing fangs, milk, scales, silk, horns, claws, bristles, quills, and tusks have been removed from the game. These items have been replaced with 9 single items. This means there are 169 fewer items that players have to collect and manage.
<*>The new monster parts have a new simple naming scheme, with a few parts being renamed:
<*>Fang, Bone (changed from Tusks), Scales, Claw, Ichor (changed from Milk), Horn, Silk, Barb (changed from quill), and Fur (changed from bristles).
<*>The new versions of monster parts are leveless, meaning they drop at any level, and they are used in all of the places that the existing monster parts were used e.g. if a recipe required 10 ‘Tiny Fangs’ it now requires 10 ‘Fangs’.
<*>Pelts and the various level versions of pelts remain unchanged.
<*>Monster parts now drop from specific enemy types. This is listed in the items description and in the item browser (from the Knowledge Book or from the Crafting Window). Additionally, enemies have a new line in their description if you mouse over their cameo that tells what types of things they may drop.
Pelts and Leather: There has also been requests from players concerning the rarity of pelts and the need of them for hunter gear.
<*>To help address this, all enemies have been divided into two categories, “Humanoids”, and “Beasts.” Beasts will function like before, dropping pelts. However anything that is a humanoid will instead drop already processed leather (of their level range). This should give hunters an easier time collecting the items they need for crafting. Mousing over an enemy will tell you whether it will drop pelts or leather.
<*>Before these changes, the typical chance to get a pelt from any monster was 24.6%. We have boosted this to a 35% chance. However, any humanoid creature that drops leather will drop at a 30% rate.
Other Monster Part Related Changes
<*>The monster parts vendor now only sells pelts up to level 15 and is now labeled as a "Pelt" vendor.
<*>The monster parts charter has been removed from the game
<*>Recipes level 15 and below no longer require any monster part
<*>Monster parts are now listed as a green superior rarity
<*>Monster part icons and 3d loot have been improved
<*>Almost all old monster parts will be converted to the new system after this patch goes live. Low level parts that used to be sold from the Monster Part vendor will NOT be converted (these items will become useless junk items to be thrown away).
<*>Because of the new slimmed down versions, all monster parts have been removed from village projects (except pelts).
Fish:We did some minor cleanup on fish caught from the fishing skill.
<*>The following items have been removed:
<*><*>Banded Butterfish, Crawdad, Bass, Redhorse, Boxfish
<*>Any player who had these items will have them converted to other fish of similar level. Any recipe that used these items has been updated and renamed.
<*>The naming scheme for fish has been changed. Instead of a “shiny” and “glistening” alternative, there instead is a small, normal, and large variant. All fish have had their icons and names updated to reflect this simpler system.
<*>All decoctions have had their icons updated.
Icons
<*>Several in game icons have been improved
Zogs
Because of some of the changes with monster parts we had to update the zog system. We decided to add some extra benefit to zogs for players.
<*>Zogs now have a rarity system. There are common, uncommon, rare, and ultra rare zogs. Zogs from various races have been arbitrarily broken up into these rarity classes. For example, a Spider zog is a common, and a Ghost zog is an ultra rare. Rarity changes the drop chance of a zog.
<*>Zogs can still be redeemed as they always could at the zog redemption agent in Traders path. However after a zog has been redeemed, the player unlocks the ability to perform zog contracts.
<*>Zog contracts are simply turning in 5 of the same zog to the redemption agent. Doing this gives a reward based on rarity:
<*>Common: An emerald
<*>Uncommon: A Diamond
<*>Rare: A random elixir
<*>Ultra Rare: 25 crowns
<*>Zog contracts can be performed any number of times (as long as you have the zogs for it!)
<*>All zog related achievements have been removed
<*>Because of cleaning up and combining certain races, several zogs have been removed from the game. All of these zogs will be converted after the patch to other types of zogs.
<*>Because the new system has and high level of rewards, all current in game zogs have been converted down to ‘common’ zogs. Uncommon, rare, and ultra rare zogs can only be found while adventuring. However if a player has already redeemed a zog they will still have credit for doing so.
<*>Because zogs have new and better uses, they have been removed from all village projects.
XP Table Balancing
We have reduced XP tables for gathering, crafting, gardening and ranching.
<*>Gathering and Crafting have been reduced to make it easier to keep skills in line with combat level. In particular, levels 1-30 are significantly easier, and levels 31-70 are fairly easier. Levels 71-Max had a slight reduction but remain mostly the same.
<*>Gardening and Ranching have both had their XP tables severely reduced. These skills are both already time gated, making them very difficult to keep in line with combat. Both of these activities require player skill (what to plant, collecting food, when to water, etc.) as well as a fair amount of management. We feel that these things are the 'gate' to the skills, and XP tables shouldn't be something that gets in the way of these activities.
<*>Combat tables were unchanged.
Crafting Recipe Changes
<*>The amount of basic refined ingredients needed for all recipes has been lowered. As an example, a level 79 warrior armor went from 175 pigs to 136.
<*>In addition to the change above, the amount of leather needed for hunter gear has been additionally reduced. As an example, a level 79 Hunter tunic went from 157 leather to 97.
<*>Reduced the amount of elemental fleece needed for fire, ice, shadow, and holy gear.
<*>Gloves, Boots, and Belts went from alternating 10 / 15, to alternating 5 / 10 (reduced by 5 each)
<*>Outfits went from alternating 30 / 60, to alternating 20 / 40 (ten and twenty reduction)
<*>Doubled the chance to get a legendary crafted item if the player has a 5 star rank in the recipe (from 15% to 30%)
Other Game Improvements
<*>Tracked quest arrows! Tracked quests now have arrows that direct you to nearby goals.
<*>Starting on June 17th, characters on new accounts will have a default move speed of 65, instead of 100. This will NOT affect accounts created before June 17th. This will NOT affect new characters created after June 17th on accounts that were created before June 17th. This will ONLY affect entirely new accounts (i.e. email/password or Steam account never used on a given server before) from June 17th onward.
<*>We changed the wallaby boot reward in Summer's Hollow. Wallaby boots were changed to 'Gnomish Wallaby Slippers' and are now given out as the prize for completing the Malicious Miscreant and no longer contain the speed portion. Now, instead after completing Hilda's quest, the player will receive a 1 hour long speed bonus equal to that of Celestia's Helm of Alacrity (the duration of the speed buff will only tick down if the user is logged IN).
<*>We made liberty drams a bit better by giving them a level lead vs. the level needed to use, e.g. before a level 65 potion would protect you against level 65 and lower enemies, but now a level 65 potion protects you again level 69 and lower enemies.
<*>Boosted the drop chance of Bileweed Bubblegum
<*>There was an issue where certain players would be prevented from doing Cyprian's daily bacon quest. So we reworked it a bit, adding a few more variations and a slightly better reward.
