Here's the relevant bit:


A lovely fusion of roguelike and card game. Puts me a little in mind of the excellent Dream Quest, although the cardboard infusion is in this case poker rather than Magic the Gathering. Damage dealt – and, later, type of attack – is defined by cards in your hand as well as by your hero’s level and gear. So, a couple of doubles will amp up your strike massively, while a royal flush probably means a one-hit kill. Actual poker knowledge not required – you’re going to pick up the handful of card combos very quickly, and instead focus your concentration on the most strategic way to take down enemies of escalating difficulty.

It gets more tactical as the game wears on – for instance, you end up unlocking buffs when specific cards are used, such as a heal on 8 or gold on 3 – and between missions you can upgrade a central hub to further amp up what your deck does. Really well put-together, and an effortless entanglement of genres in an age where roguelikebut is starting to get a bit over-used. I like this a lot.

Huh, no clear winner this time, actually. I guess I’ll go with We Slay Monsters, seeing as it’s a well done, poppy roguelike remix that called me back several times, but I must admit that Chimpology tickled me pink too.

1.0.4 Patch **FIXED GAME BREAKING STUFF**

So sorry everyone, the 1.0.3 patch broke stuff for people. I was trying to fix some things and only made it worse :(

People that were getting a black screen should be back to normal now.

Unfortunately, people effected by the bug have had their campaign progress reset back to the beginning. Super sucks for those effected. I feel bad and I'm sorry :(

If anyone was at an advanced point in the campaign and wants to get some save files at that point, I can provide them. Email me at david [at] furiouslyinactive.com and I can get you save files at any point in the campaign progression, just let me know where you where.

1.0.3 Bug Fix Patch

This fixes some minor bugs that I have noticed but probably no one else did.

Bug Fixes

  • Mission 1, 2 & 3 shouldn't allow Miasmas
  • Fixed a minor typo in a tooltip in the academy shop
  • Prevented a couple of exceptions from happening

1.0.2 Bug Fix

First I'll apologize. A couple of you were bitten by a really nasty bug. As far as I can tell, it's really only 2 people (Wuffell is one of them, cause he emailed me about it).

If you are effected by this bug, your game saves are totally fubared.

Here's what happened: a) I added some anti-cheat stuff (which works fine) and b) some stuff to better handle upgrading between version (which didn't work fine). b cause a to go nuts and mess up the files.

If you are effected, I have added code in this patch that will allow you to load the game again, and give you 25,000 gold in your academy for your troubles, but your campaign will be reset back to the beginning. Sorry!

1.0.1 Small Patch

Couple of bug fixes & a couple of other small changes.

Balanc & Misc

  • Golems are no longer able to be poisoned or get drunk. That didn't even make any sense!
  • You can now use enter or space to close the character sheet panel, and proceed through the win/death & scorecard screens.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed several small typos
  • Fixed a bug with the "cutscenes" that can occur -- if you had a high resolution (and were using 2x sprites), anyone talking on the right side of the screen would be off screen, so it would just be weird.

1.0.0 Released!

​We are officially out of early access, and the 1.0 version of We Slay Monsters is available on Steam & itch.io. It's been a crazy ride, and we appreciate all of the great feedback we have gotten from everyone on our way here! We hope everyone continues to enjoy our game, and we look forward to hearing from you all on what you think!

0.9.40.7 Patch

Found a few small bugs, and made one balance tweak:

Balance

  • Army of one has been buffed to encourage you to wade into battle more, which was the original intent. New values:

    • Level 1: 10% + 5% per adjacent monster for a max of +50%
    • Level 2: 15% + 8% per adjacent monster for a max of +79%
    • Level 3: 20% + 10% per adjacent monster for a max of +100%


Bugs

  • Everyone was getting Gems Of Hunger. The supply was getting low, so things are back to normal
  • One Eyed Lizards are immune to shouts (because they have no ears) but their character sheet didn't indicate this; it does now
  • Fixed some typos in the Academy

0.9.40.6 Patch

Quick bug fix patch. Last one before 1.0.

Misc

  • Save files now have a new format. Hopefully this doesn't mess up anyone's saves :)
  • Dungeons are only saved on exit (instead of every turn). This should increase framerate a bit
  • Added the appropriate music to the credits

Bug Fixes

  • If you had a pending shop visit when loading a dungeon, the game would "freeze"
  • The credits screen was messed up on some resolutions
  • Some stuff I did last patch to fix stuff caused some weird visual glitches, especially when transitioning between screens. This is fixed now.
  • If a male warrior or rogue was bald, it would show a tree on top of them in the Mission Briefing Screen. It won't anymore.
  • Students who bring their own Gem of Hunger will now find that it works properly.

0.9.40.5 MEGA PATCH!!


This is the last “big” patch before 1.0, and contains all of the things that I have been trying to cram in before release. There won’t be another patch before 1.0 unless something is busted :)
