Devlog #17 Hero of West Germany

Builders!

We’d already talked about the hero of the British campaign in WW2 Rebuilder, but for the last few weeks we’ve been showing you some of the maps taking place in Germany. New country means a new campaign with the brand new protagonist - let us introduce her now!

Ursula is the Trümmerfrau (ger. “rubble woman”). The German male population suffered great losses during World War II, with the soldiers being killed or taken captive. Women had to replace their fallen husbands, brothers, fathers and sons in many areas of everyday life. The ones that worked on clearing and rebuilding the ruined German cities were called Trümmerfrauen.

Their life in after-war Germany was very hard. The cities were ruined beyond recognition, afterm firestorm-causing bombings. There was a shortage of food - Trümmerfrauen had been given for their work the food stamps barely covering their needs. Many of them lost their families during the war.

During her campaign Ursula, working on the rebuilds in various places in West Germany, looks for any traces of her missing husband Andreas, a German soldier that never came home. She begins her journey in Remagen, not far from the Golden Mile, the huge camp for the prisoners of war captured by the Allies. Here she renovates the famous Ludendorff bridge. She continues her search in Essen, helping with recovering the heavy machines from the city’s factories. The huge part of equipment of German industrial plants that survived the war had to be handed to the Allies as reparations. In Hamburg, the city devastated by firestorms, Ursula learns about her husband’s heroism in rescuing civilians. She also renovates the city’s canals and one of the tenement houses.

In WW2 Rebuilder we face a very sensitive task - showing the aftermath of World War II in Germany. We are trying our best to do it with utmost care and compassion for the victims of the most horrifying conflict in human history.

Is this the end of Ursula’s journey? Probably not, but we won’t talk about it now ;)
The WW2 Rebuilder Germany Prolog comes soon, stay tuned to experience the work of our Trümmerfrau yourself!

What do you think about Ursula and what do you expect from the German campaign? Let us know in the comments!

Till next time!

PLAYTESTS ARE OPEN!

Devlog #16 Essen

Builders!

Next of our series in the West German area is nicknamed 'Steelworks;

Introducing- Essen

According to history, Ruhr area was the home of many mines and industrial plants, mainly because of being rich in resources and infrastructure. We all can agree that this means being a really interesting target for the alliance force, mainly because of Krupp factory, which created most of the artillery for the German troops. Also, because of the pristine quality of the steel, the Führer himself during the call to arms said that the troops should be "tough as Rupps' steel".

Thanks to the invention of radars, the so called 'Krupp decoy site' was evaded, which lead to fast victory on the alliance site.

So, here's what you need to know about the location:

And easter-egg type! The building that plays the role of fabric site is inspired by the building that had been in reality one of Krupp complex and nowadays is known as Colosseum Theater.

Task time! Inside the main building, there is a crane that will be in help of transporting machines that had been saved from the bombing.

Another task which is the second hall that has to be demolished for spare resources and space

We're having a lot of tasks in this one - in between the buildings is a silo that has a gas leakage. The main objective is to switch off the main valve to be able to move forward.

And some hidden history spots- an anti-aircraft bunker to find!

That's all for Essen. In reality and nowadays, the city thrives and was rebuilded to really beautiful one.
As the usuall- tell us your thought about the map in the comments down below!

Till next time!

Devlog #15 Hamburg

Builders!

As you know already, playtests for our prologue and coming in big. And you all really like our stories about certain locations and maps.

Let us continue our adventure and take this opportunity and introduce you further to the city of Hamburg.

In short after battle for Ruhr, the alliance took as it's next target the city of Hamburg. Operation Gomora was supposed to paralyze the biggest German docks and submarine factory complex. The goal was reached, although with difficulties in the future with setting the next goals caused by the smoke that was covering the building. All the docks and factories were destroyed according to the plan and pushed out of commission for at least a month.
Unfortunately, more than 3/4 of the city was destroyed with 40 thousand lives were taken by the ravages of war and explosions

What's our story?

Let us hear what our Hero has to say:
"I remember the paralyzing fear I felt reading in the newspapers about the bombings of Hamburg in 1943. My Andreas' unit was stationed in the city at the time. I was worried sick for weeks, and finally a letter from the Wehrmacht arrived: Andreas was severely burned but alive!
They say all the Allies wanted at the time was to stop the Nazi U-boat production. They succeeded, but at the same time Hamburg with its inhabitants burned almost completely. When the incendiary bombs penetrated through to the cellars full of coal, all hell broke loose
Now I arrive in Hamburg, witnessing the aftermath of the monstrous firestorms my husband had once encountered."

What's more?

One of the players' task is to rebuild the bell tower of St. Nicolas Church that hasn't been rebuilt till this day. Don't forget to clean the rubble- it will be used in further rebuilding of the coast.

We've heard that you would be interested in some new buildings and spaces to build - here you go!

Rebuilding is a hard job- to make it easier, we're dropping you a boat that can be helpful during rebuilding of some wooden bridges

Another task for you in this area will be rebuilding old trement house with a rift that you can paint with the color of your choosing.

Remember- playtests for the prologue are getting near. Hope our today's devlog got you more excited for them.

Till next time!

Devlog #14 Ludendorff Bridge

Builders!

Don't you think we've stopped with our map series! We've just took a little break to recharge and now we're back to our journey.

As you all know Rebuilder consists of 3 cauntries at the cor- England, Germany and France. So yes, it's now time for some Germany areas- West Germany to be more percise.

Introducing- Ludendorff Bridge

During the mass invasion on Germany it was thought that the biggest difficulty would be getting to Berlin through the river Ren, because the alliance thought that germans had destroyed all of the bridges that could lead to the city. But when in 1945 american troops had arrived near the west side of Ren earlier than they had planned, it occured to them that the Ludendorf bridge near the city of Remagen was still intact, possibly being the last connection to Berlin.

The fight for the bridge, or to be more specific- to destroy it lasted for 10 days. The Nazis tried everything in their power to destroy the bridge before american troops had crossed over to the other side of Ren. Right in the very beggining of taking over the bridge by alliance at least 3 tons of explosives were detonated and during the offensive- different types of weapons like V2 missiles or prototypes that hadn't been used in regular operations.

The victory was on alliance side, but the bridge didn't surviwe all of the attacks and had collapsed. Luckily most of the alliance force had passed through the bridge and during that time there had been built an pontoon bridge and an extra truss.

Okay what's interesting about the location?

How about some alternate history? We all know that the original Ludendorf Bridge hazs been never rebuilded, but we wouldn't be true to the spirit of our game if we wouldn't do some rebuilding here right? Here it will be a nescesarity as a task, because we will need to move our crane to the other side of Ren

Some history lesson for you- in the backgroud for our rebuilding adventure you can hear about 'Golden Mile' which was a temporary enclosure for german prisoners

Another task is to pull out a wreck of an tank that is embbed into a wall of a building in a small city on the other side of Ren. The task consists of pulling out the said tank, cutting it to pieces and recycle to use it for rebuilding.

And another history moment- you can see the the Apollinariskirche Church which lies upon a hill near the city of Remegen

That's all for this map. Hope you are excited for the maps of Germany as you were for England, because we sure are!

Till next time!

Devlog #13 Belfast Shipyard

Not losing our pace and this week we are bringing you the next location!

Introducing - Belfast Shipyard

Yes, the same one that Titanic was created in! Originally Belfast was quite an important industry center - military included. Despite the high status, during WW2 the city of Belfast had really poor defense. Numbers of bunkers and anti-aircraft missiles were too low, but it was mostly due the fact that people thought the shipyard is too far from the continent to be attacked by the Nazis.

What's our story?

Our Builder is sent to Belfast to take part in renovations of the shipyard inspired by Harland and Wolff’s. Main reason is that during the war, most of the alliance weaponry and military ships, RF aircraft carriers. Most of the ships were damaged during the Blitz, but most of the infrastructure had equally big imprint of the bombing.

What more?

Wanna hitch a ride? Thanks to the railroad car, you can take the resource containers with you.

One of the ships needs some repairs. Thanks to the lock installed inside the dock, you can pump out all of the water and begin renovations.

We had some Big Boys in our inventory to help us with the missions- but how about some Bigger Boys? Check out those cranes!

Thanks to this compactor you can destroy bigger chunks of the junk.

Remember what we said in the beginning? Yup the same shipyard where the Titanic was built!

So how do you like our next installment? As always- share your thoughts in the comments down below!

Devlog #12 RAF Lympne

Builders!

Your positive feedback about what we're sharing with you gave us a path for future posts. So by popular demand, continuing the series:

Introducing- RAF Lympne

According to history pages, before WW2, Royal Air Force station was base for Cinque Ports Flying Club. Although RAF Lympne was only a temporary base for technical issues, receiving transport and preparing for the missions and not a pit stop, it was at risk of bombarding during the war. There was even a possibility of Hans Bauer, who was Hitler's personal pilot, kidnapping the Führer and hand him over as a prisoner, but the mission hadn't eventuated.

During the Battle of Britain, the whole airport was bombarded and was beyond usage. All the Cinque Ports Flying Club planes that hadn't been evacuated, were destroyed beyond repair. For most of the time, the airport was only used as an emergency base.
After the War, RAF Lympne went into civilian use, mostly as a UK - France route.

What's our story?

Our English Rebuilder is sent to RAF Lympne, Kent, on the south. There, the objective is to prepare the whole airport to become an air ferry port between UK and France. The goal is for daily transport of the supplies.

What's more?

For those of you who are fans of history - you can visit places that had actually survived till modern days like bunkers or houses inhabited by soldiers

Thanks to our Big Boys, you can do some cleaning in the house area

There is a special house in this map with a history that we need to uncover

The main goal of preparing whole RAF airport includes building the waiting room, Administrative House and parking lot

Care for some plane renovations? Here you go!

During your missions, you can find figures of soldiers that are preparing to depart from the base

So how do you like the next map?
