The two Official Soundtrack albums for Flatspace are coming soon to Steam.
Flatspace (The Official Soundtrack) is the original soundtrack album sold on CD back in the early days of Flatspace. Only a handful of CD-R copies were ever sold, these are valuable if you have one.
Flatspace II (The Official Soundtrack) was originally released in 2012 and includes alternative mixes of the music in the game, plus extra tracks including the 6 minute version of Journey Through Fractional Space; which was commissioned by a Flatspace fan.
Both albums will be released on March 27th. See the store pages for a full track list:
Flatspace, the classic first game, has been released today for free.
Like my other Steam releases, the game engine has been updated, and features some new high-resolution graphics for modern computers plus the same controller support as in Flatspace IIk.
The original Flatspace game lacks some of the finesse and gameplay balancing of Flatspace IIk (what, no Machine Gun Ammo??!), but it will allow people, particularly new players, to explore and try the Flatspace universe.
Enjoy playing.

Flatspace Music Pack 2 Released Today
Hello everyone,
The new Flatspace music pack is now released with a 20% launch discount.
This is the second pack of 9 new in-game music tracks to enhance Flatspace IIk. Like any in-game music for Flatspace, these will trigger at random when you enter a new sector.
The original Second Music Pack for Flatspace II was created in 2008, and included lots of game themes and tracks from the album Stupid
Computer Music, such as China Syndrome. Those tracks were catchy and energetic, like game title themes, so when working on this new pack I decided to compile music that inspired epic feelings of space exploration and excitement, so in the end Journey Through Fractional Space was the only track from that early pack that made it into this new set.
The nine tracks are:
Blue Nebula
This is a new remaster of a 2012 track that sets something of an epic scene.
Journey Through Fractional Space
Commissioned by a Flatspace II player, the brief was to create an action tune that crossed two existing tunes from the first game: Catacombs and Cobra. The full six minute version appears on the album Stupid Computer Music.
Pandora
Created in 2013 for the album Bites of Greatness, the idea for the track was to create a catchy piece of music reminiscent of game themes from the 8-bit era.
Rock-It 99
I wanted to emulate the feeling of race-game arcade music, and the result was this high energy track. Previously unpublished.
Sonus
This mysterious track is the opening track to part two of my 2018 release, A Walk in The Countryside. The eerie sound here is a perfect evocation of exploring a strange, new frontier, making it ideal for Flatspace.
Strange Angles
An odd time signature for an unusual piece of music inspired by a sculpture and composed for a 2019 album of ekphrastic music, Music of Poetic Objects. I had Philip Glass in the back of my mind while working on this.
The Dark Cliffs
I wanted to include some more expressive, naturalistic music in the pack and The Dark Cliffs is exactly that. The full track appears on my 2019 album, Tree of Keys.
The Glass Screen
This is an edit of the final track from my 2018 release, A Walk in The Countryside. The track is a strange blend of electronic game music and acoustic piano music. The full album track includes electronic vocals.
Thought you might like to know that the second Flatspace Music Pack D.L.C. is now in development. Unlike the first pack, most of the content will be new to Flatspace, and will include a mix of tracks to add variety to the in-game soundtrack. The store for the Flatspace Music Pack 2 will be live soon and the release is planned for June 27th at $3.99 plus a 20% launch discount.
